psychedelia is referred to the enhancing of the perceptional abilities, or to the ability of enhancing perception of new dimensions.

so some music can have psychedelic properties to some people and some other to some other people

i think if we want an escape from this trap of relativity we have to see psychedelic music as the music listened by the people aiming to psychedelical experiences: for exemple Hoffman prescribed for lsd trips classical music wich relaxes the mind (or the whole individual) helping the subject to feel free to let himself slide into this new realm of perception.

therefore psychedelic trance is so called because of the use of determinated substances is preponderating in the scene, since the music itself is not a must for such experience.

what makes psy-trance so "psy" is the fact that all the people gathering in such parties is aiming to a perceptional expantion, and once again not the music itself

I think you described part one of what makes a trance dance experience. But the music that is designed to specifically enhance this experience: auditory hallucinations, euphoric buildups, ever changing and mutating sounds, multidirectional composition where the track changes continuosly and often provides and unpredictable change of direction. I feel sometimes psychedelic trance is crafted to the experience itself.

But lately, and there in nothing worng with it, these psycedelically enhancing motivs have been toned down and have been made more understandable. It is the difference between Atral Projections Trust in Trance for eg and Prana Geomantik.

You can achieve hallucinatory psychedelic states without drugs.

You can have schizophrenia or other mental illness, it can probably make your nerve system to respond to extrenal actions like you do while you on drugs.

psychedelic soundscapes could even be rock,or psychedelic jaz or...
trance could be progressive trance ,dark trance, mellow trance, pure trance, uplifting trance...
trance music could even be with analogic crust organs and percussions also...
psychedelic trance is a combination between trance and psychedelic soundscapes...
trance running through high speed beat per minutes
psychedelic is a trippy loopy space flight soundz, that gives the astronomical sence of intergalactical universe,a combination of patterns and changes between the loops...
how else to explain the difference?

try to listen to hawkwind ,psy-rock and compare their music with psy trance,or listen the guitar play from Jimy Hendrix to see how much common is the psy rythm as it goes playing,or pink floyd the guitar sound noises is sooo spychedelic...
sure trance is rough...
but there is difference between the main stream style melodies then the goatic style melodies and the psychedelic style melodies or the progressive style or the house chill melodies...           ~~~~~~~namaskar~~~~~~~~~

What kind of trance are we talking here?
Listen to Airbase, Mike Shiver, Armin Van Buuren, Alex M.O.R.P.H., Ron Ven Den Beuken, I could name more, but I don't think I've heard Psy come anything near these Melodic Trance-styles..           //Zeyon.
