By the way, i sometimes use SoundForge, but the 6.0 version. It's lighter and faster than older ones, but i need very basic stuff.           http://soundcloud.com/aedem

Up until recently SX3 and sometimes Live rewired but now I'm swinging more towards Live full time !

It really is easier to use for quickly mapping ideas and sounds together

started in SX3 crack, didnt like the user interface(or what its called), gave live6 a swing, used it for a some time and it was actually ok but its not really for me. Tryied doing a hardware setup because i didnt like most daws. Then went back to sx3 and things move a little better, bought C5, better interface and some nice updates to the workflow. But still it was a bit of pain. THEN, started using Reaper on work....now ive sold C5 and bought a non-commercial licence for chumb change and things are just comming out fast! Man, the speed of the workflow increased big time! uh, got carryed away sorry, i only meant to say REAPER for me           - If Chuck Norris has 5 dollars and You have 5 dollars, Chuck Norris has more money than you. -

it doesn't really matter which program you use to make what .. but how you use it. use the one that feels most comfortable to you.

I've been using Orion for a while now. I'm considering a move back to Cubase though. Cubase 5 has peaked my interest, and made me wonder about the switch back.

Can anyone using Cubase 5 tell me what their experiences with it have been like so far? How useful are the new drum/groove features, etc. etc.?

I don't understand why Reaper has supposedly better workflow.

Care to explain?           www.musicproductionnatural.com || www.facebook.com/djamoeba | facebook page

What i've found useful and powerful in Reaper is the routing system: any track can be audio/midi/bus/folder and any control can be automated or LFOed. Automation is a breeze. CPU usage is incredibly low.

EDIT: i am a reaper n00b!

It comes down to hotkeys and (lack of) mouse tools. Cubase is sprawling with UI buttons and different mouse tools, it really slows down the editing process to have to change them or move the mouse to a button. Reaper looks sparse and feature lacking when you first open it, but it has all of the same functionality in the hotkeys. Here is how I have my hotkeys setup:

CTRL+left mouse drag>draw a midi item in the sequencer (draws and loops an audio/midi item if one is selected, creates a copy of an item if you ctrl+left drag on an item)

left mouse drag(edge of item): Loops audio/midi item.

right mouse drag> Marquee selection

s>split item at time cursor
d>show automation for selected track
shift+d>toggle automation lanes or overlapped automation
alt+d>show/hide the docker(contains the mixer, file browser, etc...)
f>maximize selected audio/midi item to the size of the screen
g>glue selected item(s)
w>show "MIDI Control" for selected track
e>toggle inline Midi editor
r>toggles looped playback

Those are the editing tasks I use 99% of the time, you can see I have them all mapped to keys on the left side of the keyboard, which means my right hand never leaves the mouse, and I can access any editing function I need by hitting a single key on the left side of the keyboard.
