If this is a "real psychedelic trance party maaaaaaaaaan" and this Psykovsky fellow the latest "genius" then I have lost all hope for the scene I used to love...

There's hardly anyone on the dance floor, all of them have a penis, and no one is actually dancing...unless you count wandering around aimlessly and occasionally doing wiggly things with your hands as dancing...

This is northern california, so that explains it.
There's is no psychedelic left in San Francisco, I'm sorry to say. There's no one on the dance floor because they were up all night talking and yapping with their friends on the dance floor or trying to hook up with girls and by morning they're tired and sleeping.
I never understood why they have the headliner (CD release party no less) in the morning when there's no one there. But then they all say, yeah man killer party.
And ironic there's a big sign on the ground at the left speaker saying DANCE. Sad. Bay area is the most sober, non-psy, non-trance scene I've ever witnessed. Indoor parties are worse, you can't even hear the music the talking is so loud. When you put your head near the speaker they look at you like you're high and weird.

That's a shame about Northern California. I had always thought they had a better psy scene than So Cal. I mean it seems like good psytrance is more common in SF. Doesn't Bodhisattva 13:20 (who is SF based), throw parties up there all the time?

Most psytrance parties down here have had mostly full on DJs/Producers. While I'm not against full on, I wish parties had a larger variety. And by variety I'm not talking a little bit of prog psy, psytech here and there. The full range, including dark, hi-tech, and forest.

yeah Bodhi moved up there and plays occasionally. It's not the music I have a gripe about with SF (Parus always brought me out).
In southern california I know exactly what you mean. I stopped going to parties a while ago. Bodhi and Psycircle used to throw desert parties but I haven't heard of any lately. Maybe when summer rolls around we'll see more dark/forest. But really, the majority of people down here, and most of the parties, get off on full on, seems like.
I've given up any hope for anything I like getting played, unless I start playing again for Psytribe.

I've got some good news for you. Psycircle is throwing another party soon. Kindzadza is headlining. First U.S. appearance. Check out the North American forum for more info.

Rev from Doof records is playing next month as well. It's about time we start getting heavy psy parties out here.

In my opinion and taste to music as "Psychedelic" Onnomon from USA has a very strong psychedelic attitude, and of course after sitting with him working on some tracks and such, you guys should check his latest album "Escape from Planet Buddha" or "Froggy Boyz" the split album, you might like the work on those since the attitude makes it "Psy, it is all about attitude and aproach to groove and moving waves....well, listen, it's worth a shot.           www.myspace.com/enertopiapsy

^^ I'll second that. His first album was awesome and the new one is even more mature. This guy is one of a few these days I can say is the real deal.

I hate so called forest and dark psy, it gives me a headache and puts me in mind of teenage goths who aren't very good with girls, sitting in front of their computer churning out "really psychedelic, non commercial shit mannnnnnnn" on Fruity Loops.

Typical clichéd post by another ignorant progressive/full on listener. I'm guessing you haven't heard 'Ukalen' by Atriohm, 'Tumult' by Derango, nor the two Yggdrasil Records VAs 'Yggdrasounds I' and 'Yggdrasounds II' (some of the tracks on those two VAs are *way* more subtle than any other styles of trance I have heard).

Oh and lulz @ bad-mouthing FL Studio. Again, clichéd. It's actually a good DAW. Not many forest producers actually use it, though.

But hey, swings and roundabouts. Some people can only handle simple, predictable music like progressive (which I also like, but I barely find it psychedelic, unless it is the psygressive stuff... which you probably label as goth prog or some other such nonsense).

FYI, hi-tech is the style of psytrance that is generally faster than other forms of the genre, and makes use of a lot of dry sounds and obscene glitches.

Well I gave Atriohm and Derango a twizzle but as a mere mortal, and totally unenlightened to boot, I simply can't handle the sonic adventurousness and maturity of dark or forest psy trance.

I find it too fast and too gloomy...essentially I find it utterly joyless.

Just so you know...I didn't make my comments without first having had some experience of the dark and forest styles. Quite a few of my mates are DJs and have exposed me to this stuff but it just does not float my boat. I don't mind moody music but to me that is stuff is just depressing. I also find full on quite depressing but for different reasons.

And just so you know that I'm not completely narrow minded my three favourite trance albums are Koxbox's The Great Unknown, X-Dream's Radio and Process's One Drop or Two. All of which were quite experimental and genre defying for their time and possibly still so now...

I can't even fathom the idea of anybody not appreciating Forest Trance or both Atriohm and Derango in particular. They are so exciting and suspenseful to listen to. Depressing? Well if Dark/Forest Trance is not your thing I understand. But instead of looking for music to suit your taste or comparing to other styles that you like just doesn't seem fair to me if that's the mind set that you have. Instead of hating on forest trance calling it depressing you should appreciate it for what it is and the mood & message that it conveys. If it's not your style of music, that's cool. But I'm also not telling how to express yourself, I know that you have your reasons. But to me Dark Psy emobodies all the intricate difficult to define, haunting thoughts & emotions that are covered by a beam of light full of confidence and hope. To me personally it's my favourite sub-genre of Psy and it's something that I appreciate most since it has usually or hardly any melody in the tracks.
