Its a tough one, I both totally agree and totally disagree. If you buy an album your going to put in the time to listen to it many times to try to get your moneys worth. Its very rare that an album sounds amazing from the very first listen. There is probly alot of music that people have downloaded as mp3 and would love but have just never gave the time to listen to the music enough to get into it. Music though is just too cheap to make/release now no matter what genre your talking about. There is just too much garbage to do this like in the "old days" IMO.
If I was an artist, once I established a name in the scene here I would simply stop releasing music period and only play new stuff at parties. No one would be able to pirate it then and it would create a mystique around the party experience. If this caught on, over time mp3s would truely only become a promotional tool to get your name to the level of the guys who get paid alot to play parties. Could cut out all the labels/distributors who are nothing more than a parasite at this point sucking money away between the artist/audience. |
