My opinion is that now with the huge wave of progressive sweeping the dance world, the style of uplifting trance may seen a little outdated, but the truth is that euphoric trance is still alive and well in Europe.
If by uplifting you mean that ‘anthem’ style of the late 90’s that was characterized by extended trebled chords and pitched up vocals that created euphoria (Van Buuren, Van Dyk, ATB, Jam&Spoon etc), well yes….no more of that in Greece. That was a kind of music that was almost destined to create short-success club anthems and chart toppers and nothing more. But still there are some luvely tunes in memory from that period.
Some sub-genres like uplifting had become so commercialised to the loss of inspiration and quality (vlepe Scooter!) and to the disappearing of labels that were top sometime then (Platipus, Hooj Tunes, Perfecto)
And many artists that went through an uplifting phase are now towards progressive or tech-house or house (Warren, Oakenfold, Tiesto etc).

uplifting HERE was a certain style that existed in Greece and Israel only... with some basic sound and orientals melodies
uplifting in UK i think it was a name for hard-trance

hey guys you are completely confused about uplifting trance....Uplifting is the name of ANY kind of music(trance,techno,house) that gives you wonderful emotions and it usually is accompinied by oriental melodies as someone else said....Uplifting was in the past and it 's still here...Tiesto plays uplifting euphoric opera trance for example....Now for Greece in 1997 the psytrance movement got separated in two major directions....the techno one and the more israeli-oriented one which after took the name uplifting by mistake...in 1998 all the old groups were trying to find new directions in music with the most innovative X-Dream-Radio....that album changed the whole scene...On the other hand Mystica,Shidapu followed more commercialised paths to cover the fact that melodies had been dissappered....So the way for uplifting opened with massive success in Greece and Israel....Nowadays that kind of trance seems to be forgotten because what else?....psy trance has been commercial once again so many people left the underground and uplifting as now psytrance can be heared as enjoyable as uplifting....
And for every one who wants to know what uplifting trance was just hear Mystica-ethnic treasures or Shidapu-ego killer.....peace for everyone |
