You're not jealous at all...are you???
Of course you are not.

Justin, lock this if need be, but what you should really know is....

I play events where I am wanted by the promoter/listeners by supportive individuals who decide to contact me. I don't have a booking agent seeking me out gigs, nor do I "ask" for gigs and seek them out. They either come or they don't. And even when they do come, I've turned down many, much to the dismay of some Australian and UK promoters. I'm not trying to be seen on the "scene" for the sake of popularity and reputation. I'm not trying to play as many shows as I can so that I'm the name on the tip of everyone's toungue. I simply share my music with people who are interested in experiencing it. I've been at larger events where it feels like a total contradiction to drag such an excess of human mess out into an unadulterated countryside, and I feel personally guilty for participating. That is just me being honest with myself. But since this is somewhat of a career path I have chosen, it comes with the territory.

Justin, just becuase you're trying to play everywhere you possibly can, doesn't mean that everyone shares your ambition. I like connecting with people who truly appreciate and support what I do but take on gigs with discretion becuase I've found the most profound connections with my music and people at some of the smallest, most intimate parties and that is what really matters to me. I'll keep looking for your name in lights, Justin.

Peace,
Q

P.S. - cheers to all who PM'd me with laughter.

Man...I was joking, really.

And I don't have a manager, or a booking agent either, I seriously doubt anybody around here has anything similar.

I just get to play when asked by people, try to find 1 promotional profile made by me spamming websites and all of that.
It won't be an easy task, and for me there are no lights, living in Europe helps I guess.

BTW your statement means that you wouln't play even if asked???
I can't take that, surely if you would be living anywhere in Europe you'll be overbooked every summer.

PS:The previous thread was locked because was absolutely pointless at that point, no reason to lock this one...yet

in our experience artist albums sell more units than comps, also more licensing income can be expected

the initial statement by Maux was a good one...

it is refreshing to be challenged and not all be in agreement - though best when it doesn't get personal

There were some quite interesting things in the previous thread I've just read now, hehe, wondering how it could grow to 5 pages so quickly.. And as usual hehe, because of outbidding.. Let's hope it won't become a common thing in this section, or we would have lost something..

I want to consent to the words PKS and Andrew wrote in the thread, they explained their point of view keeping cool blood.. And, hasard or not, their stuff are amongst my favourites..

It makes some serious good to read such a sentence. Big up.

You guys are aware of the PM function on this website aren't you?

My last words on this topic, then you can verbally abuse me
as much as you like,Im not coming back to this thread:

I dont have anything personal at all with any of you, but:

Quasga:

I would have stopped one post before, really. There was some bad taste in your last comment (in the other thread).

Justin:

I hope not to see you telling off people for spamming anymore. It was very unprofessional what you did.
Also if you want to close a thread, you have the power to do so.But it would be smarter to do without leaving comments that may offend people with the very last post.Really.

Maux:

I am not sure but I have the feeling you have a problem with me.I dont quite understand why.
From my side Only thing I can say is that I like your music. Also you made elsewhere comments I completely agree with. Especially the comment about a certain mafia thing going on in the psy scene.

You have been very quick to tell off spammers, still you missed doing so when the perosn who booked you for a gig next summer did exactly the same.

Maybe you should adopt the same measures with everyone or trying to be more tollerant .

Josko:

The contribution you made in the other thread is amazing. You jumped in,did you spam, few stupid jokes and left.As I dont personally know you,I just wonder why would you give the people here the impression you are 16 yrs old on the way back from your first psy trance party.
You are supposed to be a professional who organize allegedly the biggest party in Italy (and one of the most important ones in Europe).Have a thought.

Peace n Dub

Arrogance, itimidation, and bad taste were not my intent at all, but thanks for your interpretations, guys.
I guess I felt that when the person who created the topic is not constructively adding or positively insinuating more discussion, but instead acts condescending towards people for their content of their contribution, well then I just tried some "turn about fair play". I noticed that the more saracastic and condescending Maux got, the less I could understand what he was saying and trying to accomplish here. I mean, the jokes on me really, becuase he actually speaks another language (possibly more) and I am only fluent in English. But then again, if I could speak another launguage, but not express myself as clearly as my primary launguage, then I probably wouldn't try to rant in that second launguage. But to each their own. I thought my first post was offering a solution (Maux releasing an album) to the "problem" (too many compilations, not enough artist albums) and wanted to know about mastering. Again, Maux responded with defensive tone, frustration, and the ever present condescension coupled with self-promotion. And that's ok, but one has to expect some heavy responses when throwing out a topic such as this. I think everyone is sharing their true feelings here, and that is what is the most important thing in this world besides love....truth. If my opinions offended anyone I have no apologies as that is how I feel. I don't expect people to like it, but I do have the right to respond in the ways I deem fit, despite what anyone thinks. I haven't crossed any lines that make me feel guilt about speaking from my heart.

I now just want to say how I really feel about the TOPIC so I can at least feel that I tried to get myself back on track with the proposed notion.

I love compilations. Too many of them? Never, there is never enough creativity and expression in this world, despite whether one agrees with the "content" of the releases. If anything there isn't enough. Since it's all subjective, I can't say it's a "waste of energy and resources" because I'm not trying to pass a generalized judgement on what should be coming out or not. I just want to see even more creativity in this world and *tolerance* of creative pursuit. I want to see less destruction, excessiveness, ego, contradiction, and people not supporting each other.
I've supported Maux more than he thinks. I *bought* and own the Vajra and Dissolving Coulds "compilations" on CD with his work on them. I doubt he can say the same, that he purchased my two physical album CD releases. I buy the music that I like, be that compilations or albums, and I'm a dedicated fan of the Compact Disc until it *possibly* goes away in my lifetime. I love having a physical collection of music where just the arrangement I have it all in, brings a joy when seeing all combinations of CD spines making abstract color patterns. It is fun to pick a CD out of the lot , put the disc in the player, start the first track, open the packaging to revisit the liner notes (where good information or anecdotes are sometimes found) and look closely at the crisp, 120lpi offset printed art. I *overpaid* for CBL - World of Sleepers album digipak from Ultimae when it was released, even though I get a saikosounds discount, just because I wanted directly support the label and artist. I believe in rewarding labels and artists, by buying the music, who are striving for the upmost quality they can, and consistently represent themselves through quality production of the music and artwork. Ultimae has some of the best "on disc" printing in the scene from my opinion. Has anyone ever paid them a complement about that? THAT is how important the physical releases are to me, even though the processes to create these releases are toxic and harmful to our environment. But then again so is the computer manufacturing that fashioned this machine, making my digital communcation possible. Since some contradictions seem very hard to avoid, I'm trying to keep the rest at a minimum and would like to see others striving to do the same. We're all far from perfect, but I guess making a conscious effort is betther than nothing. I guess, all in all, in need a dose of my own medicine, becuase I used excess to get my own points across. Ah, this world is a conundrum.

Keep you ears happy, everyone.
Peace,
Q

after having read the other section that was closed i had to put on some general thoughts...

about comps: i DO watch if they are carefully done yes or no, i am a listener/composer, not a DJ so when i listen to music i am an "audience" i do notice some labels forget that not all their clients are dj's that will mix the track in their "story" they tell

it's a pity it's that what refrains me often from buying certain compi's

i also got a bit to say about that "journey aspect"

CD's i always put on do got that aspect well pronounced for my taste, it's a matter of taste, but when i put a DJset/album/comp on i do relax think about nothing and listen to the artist(s) at work, have a drink (or rarely a good wine) just sit in front of my speakers put the volume loud and off i go, and yes a lot of compi's aren't having that effect... but others do and yea one time a compi from label X is better then label Y or reverse in the next release but i as artist do notice having a storyline or "journey" to offer is more important then i had read in the former thread

of course this is subjective to music taste: you have no "rule" others don't care about a storyline,... but really a lot (more then some think) do... my toss is i don't care if a label does only compilations, as long as i like them i buy and listen to it

now i will dwell a bit off topic but in some way it is related... i have been wondering if the global quickness and growth of labels and releases is not the main reason why some compi's are crap and others not... do some labels think about the listener or the dj's?

this is not said in a bad way it's more like this: when i put a fahrenheit compi on i can sit down and listen the tracks are good and the compi makes a whole... on some warp releases the tracks are good but they are so different it is not a "whole"

i am sure that for a DJ or other minded people this may suffice and yea even i do like the tracks too it is a reason for me not to buy a cd i want to enjoy while i listen to it not be tossed from one side to the other

okay i know it's hard to say it's for dj's or not it's not something that needs to be "labeled" (labeling is limiting lol) but i guess you see the point i want to make...

in the end what counts is that i find what i like if that's a compi or full artist's CD is just a detail if it sounds good it sounds good and i buy it if not i don't...

no situation is stronger then a heart that dares to love
so may the force of life light and love be with you
