hope this is the right section to ask...but nowadays many parties have 3-4 djs, each playing a 2 hr set, which some complain doesnt let anyone make a story....what is the minimum time required?

2nd: is it even important to make one or is storytelling an outdated concept? and if bychance its traditional meaning has changed, then how?

what are u talking about?
What do you mean by saying 'story'? 2hr for a dj is enough anyway...

I too think that 2 hours is enough for a set...

But I think i get the meaning of the 'story' thing - it's building up the crowd by playing the set in a certine order that cicks in and build the atmosphere, and maybe that is why djs are complaning, cause once you got the right vibe there and the floor is 'yours' then is the time to leave and give up your place to another dj....

Then again - 2 hours, imo, is enough to build and even go farther, and changing the dj after 2 hours gives a lot of new energy on the dance floor and some fresh vibe there... so it's always welcome

WTF do u mean with story?

???????????????????????????????

Story about faries?

2hours is far much less and really enough to tell a story - at least a short story.            Signature

I dont think most dj's artists even bother with a story. Its all 'bangers' and 'killaas' and the music has changed ....

Sometimes i come across Dj's who actually have a mental plan of how their set sounds and creates a trip..
Havin more than one dj is great actually, but would be better if they were slotted accordingly and preferably if they were from different styles. Than atleast a musical 'journey' in a sense can be attempted. But if all wanna play a full-on killa set, it gets seriously boring.

I personally think the whole point of being a dj is to manufacture 'trips' with your selection of music. 2 hrs is enough to create a pretty effective one.

many artists today play and go home, that's all. money for music with no soul. Astrix 4 example plays anywhere the same tracks and goes home, like a machine. imho when artist give his very first sets he put his soul into. but after a while its just became a job. And i'm not sure if a can blame them on this.

I like artists who play and go digging

when it becomes a job for an artists then you loose the spirit of the hole thing...
Being at a party, feeling the crowd and the vibe and blending as well as changing the atmosphere when playing is as much as artistic thing to do rather than just mixing skills

when ever we have a gig too we have our intl act playing atleast a 4 hour set ... provides a good journey and doent make me feel im robbing ppl for their entry fee
... so when i go for a gig too i expect atleast a 3+hour set

like goagil/fred/Ifan ..... themselves play long and solo sets .... thats when i can say i herd the intl act really well and liked it or disliked it            Nocturnal Wizardz Recs

Cubasing is like Freebasing, just with audio.
Both cost more than you can afford, and leaves you sitting in a dark room with no life, craving for more.

man if all the people and topics in this forum are sooooooooo futile and childish, what are you doing here??? and more to the point why arent you starting up loads of really high quality discussions???           Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. No, i wait to start my own bedroom label so i can spam and open new threads with my releases and other spam related to my label, artists or gigs.

Anyway, Gaspard stop being offtopic, what is your Dj story? It seems you always play some story or fairy tale, dunno yet. anti-depressants still keeping me in good form.
