What do u understand the word "anti-melody" to mean?

Not much, that's why a tutorial about it would be helpful

The thing is, I read a guide which told me that Dark music used tons of anti harmonies and anti melodies, I basically understood what the anti harmonies were and that's way extremely useful to me, now I'm looking for the second "part" !

Thanks for the "Chord Wheel + Complete Idiots Guide to Music Composition" recommendation, I'll check those out !

theres a crapload of anti-melody links that dont offer a definition on google. All I can think of is a counter-melody which is just a second melody possibly using counterpoint, which moves in an opposite direction to the main melody.

Cant really teach u how to do that without teaching u how to do a melody 1st. And theres no easy way for that.

from O-zen site

music theory is huge knowledge pool collected by human kind for hundred of years.
the theory contain intensive information about what u can do.
its not "do" and "dont do" list , nor its rules.
but its advic that works on the ear in a way that checked/confirmed.

Is there...really, room in psy-trance for experimentation ?

It's an interesting question...

Check out some finnish psytrance or stuff on Gi'iwa productions label to see how the form can be bent and tweaked to allow room for more "exploratory" approaches to psytrance...

However realistically psychedelic trance does have a form, an aesthetic and the dancers know what this is.
We know what it is...it is that distinct sound when you are at a party and you can hear it from a distance...that feeling aaah yes it's psytrance.

It's in the timbre of the bass, its the sound of the kick it's in the structure of the phrasing. The timbres that are being used in your leads. The way sections build up and breakdown.

In my opinion, and this goes for any type of music you are trying to learn, you need to study and understand the form and the reasoning behind the aesthetic. You need to be able to replicate the form as closely as you can, before you can experiment with it and have it still fit within the form.

Otherwise what you are doing is not making experimental psytrance you are just experimenting with music.

Mesq..i went to the giwa site..but, how do you hear the music..i was looking on the release page..and i didn't find info for download or buying the music. :/

As for experimentation...isn't the point of it to change that aesthetic that makes up the genra..so that you can either change the genra or build a new/sub genra? i mean if your trying to stick to a form..then how are you experimenting?

To me the idea of experimenting has always been.. "Wow, this sound would never be found in a psy/house/trance/dnb track...lets put it in and see what happens" [which is why i was working on that bass clip.]

Sense when did all music involve dance? some of the old school goa ive heard, it didn't make me want to dance..it made me want to sit in my room and get lost. Just totally drug [as in pulled out...not as in drugs.. ] out into space...lost in the melody and [hopefully] harmonized bassline.

Since ancient cultures combined drumming with repetitive dance to establish a connection with higher spirits... probably as earlier than 5000 bc.

The only genre of music that wasn't actively danced to would probably be opera.

And to further agree with Mesq, you have to know the rules before you break them.

OFFTOPIC

If there were no room in psy for experimentation then new stars like texas faggot wouldnt have gotten famous from that western track. with the yeehaws and harmonica and hick guitar.

In fact I would be willing to bet that the dancers are so Boooored of formulaic psy that they would be purring & cooing if they heard something new and surprising.

show me a band that made it big with an old sound that added no new elements?

the best way to learn psytrance is :

born again, reach the 10 years old and start with piano and guitar lessons.
find somebody to play with you.
start a band, play rock, jazz, blues, folk and classic.
be the best and the first in everything of your generation .
when you reach 18 years old get a gig in some bar.
when you reach 20 get a gig with a professional band maybe with an artist or something.
be the best of all the musicians in the gig you are playing with, (now you are 23).

when you feel that you know music in all its glory now is time to do the last step to learn psy trance:

take an acid.

are you high allready ??? good.

now put "The Nommos - Primal Meltdown"

now, listen carefully...,

next step is:

FORGET.

forget everything you think you know.
forget who you are and what you like .
forget the ego .
forget the chicks claiming for you while u play.
forget the music!.

Now you can do psy.

forget the chicks !!??

now you're pushing it man !
