hi I'm actually satisfied with my recordings so far.
I have only the m-audio 24/96 which is quite cheap but does the job.
I'm looking for a soundcard that is not that expensive as some rme for instance but better in terms of having less noise on the recordings.
I've read that for microphone recordings it is important to have a better soundcard, because of the transformation of noise and artifacts into zeros.
The A/D converter shall be the part of the card that is responsible for a better of having less noise.
Each recording I do now I must work with deesser and gate and still there is a bit of unwanted noise.
Also I notice I hear often a bit the beat from the headphones on the recordings.
Any recommendation?

Yes Will'o ... so far i've used the Virus as a soundcard for a few months now, doesnt give me any problems as yet, the sound is pretty decent too. After all its Access, considering the engine, it has to be better than an M-audio or stuff in that range .

^yes.
@ SOund Geezer - I have enough of reasons in my rap music to be satisfied.I just want to reach a better quality of production and I bet there is no end.Less noise is whast I'm aiming for, even thought it is not dramatic.Still it is ok (the produciton)for a vinyl release (for me, finaly).

The old M-Audio cards are very noisy. PCI cards are even worst. You don't mention price. |

I own the very standard 24/96 .. I dunno what they cost now ,maybe hundred euro ,not sure.
Before that I used a terratec very similar to the first, but she was not usable anymore after some strange transport once,so I bought the m-audio to try sth else, but it was the same (price)range of quality etc.
I think they are really very noisy, espescilly for mic recordings.
So if anybody know sth of 200 euro which is noticebly better ,I'd glad to get a good advice.

most modern converters are better than the older ones. So you can't really go too wrong. |

Same here,
I just got a notebook finally, using ableton too and planning on getting a novation launchpad or akai apc when I can afford it.
Now for my Desktop I use the EMU404, which is good enough for now. But its quite big and has an external power supply.
I want to have something smaller than that and it should be powered by USB or Firewire.
Ah and I dont want to spend much more than 200€ if I can
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Kryten |

I would always recommend the Echo Audio Fire 2 or 4 in that pricerange. It has very clean powerfull Sound , a great dynamic range and very low signal to noise ratio..
The drivers are good enough and getting better.

re M-audio problems
I have problems with my Firewire 410. It's practically unusable. It will lose connections while recording and all you'll hear is a "bleeeep" tone. So you have to restart it, and hope it doesn't crash your OS when you do. Support told me it's a known problem and tough luck.
I also own an Axiom61. Keys are kinda sticky (no spills, its part of how its constructed ... poorly), sliders are fragile (most broke off with moderate use), cheap overall construction, it will sometimes reconfigure itself without my permission and will need a hard reset. It's got aftertouch, and decent key action (when the keys are not remapping themselves or sticking).
I'm happy for you if your unit works, but I could never recommend an M-Audio product to anyone. |
