I have the m-audio firewire audiophile and it doesn't work properly... it switches itself off around 30 mins. I'm not the only one with this problem. There'll be lots of people where it works like a charm but speaking from my own experience I can't say I'm happy about it (hence my post above... looking for another external soundcard).           http://www.soundcloud.com/bandarlog

Hi people! What do the experts here say on the Emagic EMI 2|6 usb card? Its purpose would be low latency (perhaps using synths) live performance using 6 outs with a laptop.

If you're going to be using it with a laptop i would suggest getting a firewire card instead of usb..

What's your budget? I can suggest you some accordingly..           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

350€ but don't suggest the m-audio audiophile firewire cause I have it and it doesn't work... Maybe it will on my laptop once it arrives but I've tried to make it work on 2 different desktops and it keeps on disconnecting. So that makes me a bit suspicious about firewire soundcards. Some said that could be the problem & swear by usb 2.           http://www.soundcloud.com/bandarlog

I had the firewire audiophile as well & sold it coz it gave me tons of problems too..But don't think this is the case with all firewire cards..

I bought a presonus firebox (which is within your budget) & have been problem free ever since..

I did a lot of research before buying it & hardly found any negative reviews..Its got good preamps, its small & installation is a breeze, it just works out of the box..I think at this price point its the best option..

Check out some reviews:

Does anyone know for sure if the EMU 1616 works with a Macbook pro (Intel)? Would be nice to know. The EMU site was a bit blurry about the issue...           Peace and Love, seriously!

Thanks man. I'll wait for my laptop to arrive, then I'll test the audiophile firewire on that and if it doesn't work, I'll see what I can buy.           http://www.soundcloud.com/bandarlog

M-Audio Audiophile and Delta series it's just a good multimedia sound cards... Best thing for begining. If you have some more money than buy Tascam audiocards. And if you seriously want good sound then buy Motu or RME + Dynaudio monitors. Chears!

I wouldn't agree with you on that... I have owned a M-Audio delta/66 PCI card and it had good converters and a loud output on balanced jacks. And that sounded A LOT better than the M-Audio firewire410 I use with a laptop these days.
As for PCI, I now have an RME... but that's another story...

Any idea how good the pre amps on the Ultralite are? I've read that the converters are pretty decent but didn't really manage to find info on the pre amps..

How good is the Ultralite compared to the TC Konnekt & the Echo Audiofire 8?           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic
