fireface 800 costs 1700 swiss francs (don't know exactly how much dollars, but surely less than 1600) at www.houseofsound.ch

Hi there,

I've had a lot of different soundcards in the last 15 years. About a year ago i've bought a apogee DA converter which connected to the optical output of my G5. I was blown away. Very loud and an incredible "low". After about half a year i tried a Benchmark DAC1. I've rapidly sold the apogee.....

If you think virtual instruments can't create low frequencies you should try a HQ DA converter.
It did the trick for me

Just some quick questions for you guys...

As far as i can undestand the card which some people propose with the best features options-better converters etc is rme's fireface 800.

What about the unbalanced outputs of the card ? Isn't xlr output better for the production level?

Also what about the digital aes/ebu format do you have support for that in fireface800 ?

Thanks,
John

I'm using a Creative Audigy LS and it sucks. I have alot of problems with clicks and crackles no matter what I do. I definately need to get a Pro sound card...Hmmmm maybe I'll shop around on ebay!

heared that mbox dont work properly with sx!
if you buy digidesign, use protools!
if you still want to work with both of the programs, buy m-audio card...

If anyone here has a Toshiba laptop (especially the Satellite series) with WinXP....

...do you have a working soundcard and if so, what is it? I've resorted to asking this question as it seems pretty hard to find a good answer any other way.

I use Reason and Live, and I want to be able to play live gigs, hopefully soon.

The M-Audio FireWire Audiophile I tried has failed terribly, so I want to know if there are any other brands/models around that definitely work well with this setup.

I'm really not that picky on sound quality as so far I've only used the cards that came with my past computers. I just want somthing that WORKS!

Thanks for any help, it's much appreciated!!

Yeah you'll need a USB port to use it (all modern computers have them); should come with a USB cable in the box.
