If anyone here has a Toshiba laptop (especially the Satellite series) with WinXP....

...do you have a working soundcard and if so, what is it? I've resorted to asking this question as it seems pretty hard to find a good answer any other way.

I use Reason and Live, and I want to be able to play live gigs, hopefully soon.

The M-Audio FireWire Audiophile I tried has failed terribly, so I want to know if there are any other brands/models around that definitely work well with this setup.

I'm really not that picky on sound quality as so far I've only used the cards that came with my past computers. I just want somthing that WORKS!

Thanks for any help, it's much appreciated!!

Yeah you'll need a USB port to use it (all modern computers have them); should come with a USB cable in the box.

I would recommend the Presonus firebox..I read tons of reviews & did a lot of research before getting it & never read one bad comment about it..Its not too expensive has great preamps & works out of the box..A good option if you're looking for a dependable firewire card..

Yeah it is. I took up S-Cube's advice (thanks!) and bought the Presonus Firebox... but am still getting the same problem!! Ahhhhhhhhhh

Just sent an email to PreSonus tech support (hopefully they're not as useless as M-Audio tech support) and I'll make sure I mention the solution on here if there is one.

hey guys once again i tell u:

firewire is no good for pc laptops, specially if u have a small firewire port that cant power the unit!
i had to sell two (audiophile and fw 410) and got really frustrated. i recommend u get a pcmia card instead. they are WAY more reliable. i have now a echo indigo dj i use for live act, using sofware as Ableton, Reason and heavy vsts like Discovery, Albino, Minimonsta and large audio files. it may look like a cheap piece of plastic but it has never let me down, even when performing live with loads of instruments and effects (vst). of course u may want more outputs or inputs, if ure using external gear for ur live. so check out emu 1616m pcmia , has loads of in.outs, preamps, dsp accelerated fx, excellent converters, is a professional card in all sense for laps. im getting that when i get a job! but dont understmate the power of pcmia hehe, its sure better than going for usb. sure firewire is cool as hell but for some crappy reason, pc laps have been left out. if someone has a pc laptop running a firewire device with good performance, please let me know ur specs!           www.soundcloud.com/elektroakustica/sets/downtempo/

mine is working great in 2 different laptops!

audio card - terratec phase x24fw

1-p4 2.8 with 1g ram and a non powered small firewire connector

2 - pentium m760 2,0ghz with 1gram and non powered small firewire connector

i can get the buffer to 256 samples with no problem at all, lower settings though can cause some clicks and pops in heavy projects!

ive use it in flstudio and cubase and ableton live

OK people.. I need u to choose. So most popular soundcard as I see it are:
• FireWire 1814
• FireWire 410
• FireWire Audiophile
• FireWire Solo
• Ozonic
• Audiophile 192
• Audiophile 2496
• Delta 1010
• Delta 1010LT
• Delta 66
• Delta 44
• Black Box
• Ozone®*
• Mobile Pre USB
• Fast Track™ USB
• Transit®
• Marian Marc 4 midi

And my choices are this:
• Delta 1010LT
• Audiophile 192
• Audiophile 2496.
• Marian Marc 4 midi

Till now I have 2 soundcards, some 5.1 Holywood or something shitty like that.. That was good for mixing and production when I tweaked my computer to its best performance.. But now when I bought synth I need MIDI IN/OUT PCI card.. So what do u think about choices I made, which is the best?? Will it serve me good?           http://www.myspace.com/djacidkills

Do you work for m-audio dude?!

I've had bad experiences with m-audio (Audiohphile) so i would go for something more stable..My firewire choices according to different budgets:

Cheapest: Presonus firebox,
Medium budget: Motu Ultralite
Happy for life: RME Fireface 400
