people worry too much about labels.. wow that's not progressive that's electro.. wow that's not trance it's house.. who cares as long as it's good music. this is such an over rated discussion
there are a lot of people that might be at a party/club/house/whatever, and they're really enjoying the music, but if they ask a friend what style of music it is and they say "electro", people just say "ah it sucks, what happened to pure trance music etc"
that just makes me sick, i'm sorry           When I dance, I put myself in the DJ's hands to take me to a journey - the unconscious journey to reality

KARKEIJA KREW!!!!!!!! dancing is the phrr fo da powa

isn't it obvious?
on the other hand, it's quite funny seing someone here talking blablabla about trends, just releasing his 1st pseudo-progressive track on a pseudo-progressive compilation released by a supposed dark psy label...
what the fuck is that???

i'm not judging the compilation as i haven't listened to it, i just found funny to find on it someone that kept pointing the finger to this genre , to the trends and the people that follow them.

If that's you're definition, I'm seeing very few progressive artists lately.

Progressive to me is just a term describing arrangement. I don't think any genre or artist can really be summed up in one word..           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

Musical characteristics for "proggressive music" (aply mostly in rock , but i think for this topic it fit as well)

*avoid common popular music song structures

*Progressive music is designed mainly for listening, rather than for dancing, which meant that prog artists are able to use unusual rythms changing time signatures

* less predictable chord progressions

now , can u say what defined as "proggressive trance" fit into this criteria ?
i dare say no , its aimed to be dance music , usualy very predictable , and more pop vibe then oldschool classic psytrance

but names of sub-sub-sub genres (electronic-trance-proggressive) change from day to day , so dont take it too cirious and just know the artist u like listen to

This is true. And artists that mean this to me are tetrameth, tegma and sensient.

I do feel the thing with progressive, even prog rock (or self-labelled progressive anyway, which is usually the problem) is that people imitate a genre which they know only as 1 label, this then happens in mass and everyone says "hey! we're a movement!" If one artist did this they'd be written off as fools but safety in numbers and all...

but then I guesas if ti doesnt have to be housey to be progressive I would then also call upon ghreg on earth, atriohm, parus and penta as they seem to be pushing the boundaries of creativity these days

Inever got the term progressive... maybe whe Tim Larner (Sensient) used the term Psygressive it was a better term... I just like it because for once it can be trippy music without doing your head in... nothing like some nice electro/funky/tribal styles inthe afternoon during summer outdoors...

I never got the term "dark" either... mostly it sound like industrial based noises...

Full On, is the most ridiculous of all... because most of what is termed Full On just sounds like fancey Euro Trance... even some closer to NRG and Hard Trance (Chemical Crew etc)....

why can't people just stick to liking music they enjoy without the terms!?

The first - "Something starts simple with just a kick and a bass and then slowly but steadly evolves to something massive and magical that turns the danceloor upside down with its rythm and melodies."
By Elad
The second - "*avoid common popular music song structures
*Progressive music is designed mainly for listening, rather than for dancing, which meant that prog artists are able to use unusual rythms changing time signatures
* less predictable chord progressions"

Still think that the above definitions are the ones who serve better in the context of music....and both are valid, though the the second approach relates to music in general - more complete i would say!!!!

i think how do you call your music is not that important.. what does really matter is if the music is good or not and that´s it.. this kind of discussion happens every time.. with dark, minimal, progressive etc..

so... fck it!           Free your mind...
