Usually when you buy an artist album or you listen to tracks of an artist, you know more or less what style he plays right?
And then you go to a party where this specific artist is playing, you expect to hear what you heard on the c.ds – and then you get a surprise. He plays a totally different set than what you expected.
I’ll give you an example. Oli (MOS) came to Israel a few months ago. I adore MOS music. Dark hard progressive. But then during the party he played such fluffy music I couldn’t listen to it. When Yuli came up I said “thank you god”. So I tell myself ok, maybe the artist changed his style. But then Oli releases a compilation, where he returns to dark progressive sounds.
And this is just one example among many many others.

Now I ask you this: Is this fair towards the crowd who expects a certain music to come and play a totally different set? It’s also unfair towards the organizers I think, who booked the artist because they thought they knew what he would play (again after listening to the artist’s tracks).
Should organizers start asking for demo tapes before they book a well known artist?

Again, I’m not talking just about Oli. I’ve seen many cases like this.

I don't think the organizers should ask for demo tapes, there has to be some freedom of expression.

The artist needs to have the freedom to choose his or her work.
But of course at a festival people might come because they like the "Known" work of an artist.

So I see it more of a courtasy towards his fans to play what they expect ( at least mainly)

Let them artists play what they want. If they play what the crowd want, they have taken the first step to commercializm.           Ut ameris, amabilis esto.

Eli, Oli didn’t play at 8 a.m to remind u.
He played during the night.
At 8 a.m it was Yuli or maybe even Omi already.

jiwook (ex member of reefer decree) played once in paris ... he played at 9h in the morning...
i was expecting cool, smooth and groovy proggy (whe had a full hard full on night like we always have here )
and ... he played really fast full on music (145 bpm) not really well mixed and way too violent and psychedelic for that time...
a HUGE dissapointement for me

may be my memories fucked up, sorry.
as i remember it was morning. it was light. i think.
and i remember some dark techno stuff during his set as well. in fact i wouldnt call his set as fluffy, it was more crossover, mixed up with different styles as morning progressive, techno, psy.
and if u ask me, i like surprizes:)          Believe your soul !

Yeah, it's fair.
I think we should trust our favorite artist's taste, and let him take us towards different directions, this is what makes us special.

I don't think it's a good idea to tell a DJ or an artist to play anything. they are the only ones to decide about it, no one else.
however, Candy has a point. many times you hear a totally different set than what you expected.
lets just call it "the element of surprise"
sometimes it's amazing, and sometimes it sucks big time...
