I discussed this with a good friend of mine the other day infact and this is why I love trance so much and why I am infact addicted to it so much.

I have known that I can be a little psycic, and when listening to the music I often predict when certain breaks and beats are going to come into the track. But I often freak myself out when my body interprets the music so well that I make the right moves and know EXACTLY when something is going to happen in the music. Its that subconsicious movement of my body that makes my mind reel, cause here I am moving and dancing to the music and I dont even have to think about it. What makes it even more fun is when I'm listening to music that I can surely not predict (wicked, funky & psycadelic stuff!!), my mind will do it for me and its THAT thrill which keeps me hooked. The euphoria that the music gives me, the energy and the happiness is so indescribable, my breath gets taken away on that dancefloor, and I end up with a silly grin on my face hehehehhee.

You mean you can count up to 8/16/32?

Some of us would see this as recognising structures in the music. Others would say they are psychic.

2 Jeff:

Psy trance couldn't be considered "itself", cause it's a mirror of its creator's personality. And in this mirror we could see different things: sometimes higher levels of consciousness (and in this case we have deep spiritual vibe), sometimes fun & joy, sometimes the face of not that "mature" person (not meaning the age) and sometimes even some "cockroaches" (reflecting the dark side of being).. many things. And the difference from hip-hop is the repetitive hypnotic structure, known from the ancient times of shamanism as an effective way (combining w/ psychoactive substances) of collective mind altering - spiritual healing, in other words, achieving the harmony with other people, mother nature & the whole reality, and sometimes getting some new information by unusual channels of perception. And again, it could be magical & spiritual, & it could be not, though the discs are lying on the same shelfs in stores.

As most of other musical forms.

Same remark as above.

Well, that's precisely the point investigated through this thread. Is Psy Trance today really fitting this role ? For you the answer is yes. For others it is not so obvious.

So what? =) It never was spiritual for my parents, and..? =)
Or f.e. in 96 I was really on "Beyond The Infinite" and never get into AP, often leaving the dancefloor, and for some of my frieds it was vice versa. But you can't make the conclusion about the spirituality of psy trance of the era, from these facts.. well, in general, it's all about "good-old-days, when the trees were bigger and the girls were prettier" =)

And no, I never reached higher states of consciouness listening to my favourite music, from Doors & Velvet Underground to Coil & Sonic Youth. A lot of feelings and emotions, but it's an absolutely different thing imo.

I used to believe in the spirituality of the psytrance scene. Call me dissillusioned, but kids eating drugs and listening to psytrance is not spiritual for me anymore.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

mmmm this thread resulted in a topic is Psytrance spiritual or not? hehehehe i just want to know how many of you think it's a spiritual healing music how much of you go to a party to switch off from the rest of the world and visit that happiness! If psytrance is spiritual of course it is many of us experienced this it's not just one person so we know that already.

To Jeff : Jeff i have never in my life encountered someone who told me that hip-hop or house is spiritual? Have you? I think this is what makes our scene different than the other ones, this scene used to be dominated by good souls and no ego's nowadays is different cause it grew and with it grew the artists ego's but it will change again and there will still always be real dedicated artists to give us those spiritual moments because these artists are driven by an inner force and that is were real good music comes from! The inner force!

No, I haven't. But there's A LOT MORE music out there than Trance, House, Rap, or even electronic music. I took Hip Hop as an extreme example because, even though it sounds stange, I'm pretty sure someone could argue it has some spiritual healing power for him.

If I wanted to play it safe, it'd have been much much easier to talk about Classical Music (a famous French writer (Cioran) once said : "God can thank Bach, because Bach's music proves the existence of God"), Blues, Jazz... The spiritual value of numerous pieces from these "genres" has been acknowledged in the Western world for ages. Not to mention the Eastern traditional music, which I don't know that much unfortunately.

to Jeff: Why of course there were other music genre which were spiritual at that time psytrance is an evolution of these genres and so it is spiritual. About the hip-hop thingy well if you find someone who will tell you hip-hop is spiritual and he can get off his ego through it well let me know i can't even imagine that!

It will die when the last one of us will stop loving this scene! It will never die no matter what people say, maybe in the big festivals yes but there will be small parties or festivals were music and spirituality will reign. Ok i admit the scen has grown bigtime and that is why a lot of spirituality is lost but in due time i have faith it will heal!

Its growing slowly, but steadily IMO!!! And that is all the reason we need to keep on loving it!!           :: Life can be as bitter as dragon tears
But whether dragon tears are bitter or sweet
depends entirely on how each man perceives the taste ::

I don't want to be seem as agressive here. It's only my opinion.

People keep saying the music THEY like is spiritual, the church THEY go is spiritual, the ayahuaska THEY drink is spiritual, the woman THEY fuck is spiritual...

Well, I'm kinda sick of this kind of argumentation.

Nobody really pays attention to the fact that these are only THEIR experiences, and obviously they like it, so spiritual is anything that people like or that make them feel better?

Obviously this thread is about opinion, opinions don't have to be based in anything...

My opinion: there's not such a thing as spiritual.
Respect!           .
...Be gentle with the earth...
...Dance like nobody's watching...

...I don't mind not going to Heaven, as long as they've got Coffee in Hell...
