i believe the music sharing experience is changing very rapidly, i remember times swapping tunes over msn messenger and friending fans on myspace (and all the printed stuff before internet was so available) today i post music on soundcloud, photos on facebook and instagram, and music and gig videos on youtube, having 10k+ facebook fanbase and 10k+ soundcloud im able to get enough gigs to live off it, but whats next? do you already use new pages or ways to promote your music? are you aware everyone is on mobile now? is it better to sell or give away releases? bandcamp vs beatport? Are facebook groups dead? When is hallucinogen 3 gonna be released? Is psytrance going mainstream? or is it dying? is there any popular psytrance artist on twitter? SHARE YOUR TECHNIQUES!

i know psytrance is not about marketing its about love and all that stuff but getting real we need to eat off it so we need to be able to sell/give our music so we can ultimately get moaar gigs           yo quiero taco

i'm not pro and maybe i'm wrong on what i answer you right now.

if your'e point is making money
i think you should change your musical genre
my opinion is that :

Psytrance slow down every year. and not a lot people listing to Psytrance music compare to other musical genre's .

and psytrance producers earn almost all he's money from party's/big stage's.

and for playing on party's/big stage's you need to be really good and your music should be really unique.

but you have couple options still to earn money
one example:

go make your own party's.
buy generator and all gear which you need to make your own party.

buy a lot water bottles for example one bottle off water cost you 2$ then you resell it for 5$

and make your party far away from liquid store's

you can earn good money from water/alcohol

and if you're party will be great people after good party will work for you
and Spread your'e music and maybe you will go to the big stage's.
(in the big stages all the money)

Make a "psedonym" alias, release cheesy club tracks like Avcii/ Tiesto or whatever. Or make computer game music, probably your best bet in making money on music.

I guess it's all about getting gigs. and eventually get your tracks released in the most popular labels of the moment.

psytrance is an underground scene. and it's not the kind of genre that gets many attention or tons of new fans.

those cheesy house producers and djs are where they are today, and receive good cash because of the big promotion machine behind them. many of them are just overrated...
best trance djs? lol
best house producers??

if you can't get bookings for gigs, start by being a local dj and organize parties with your friends and the people you know.
it will spread your name in your country's psy scene.

just gather a couple live acts and djs, and it will be fine.
if you're starting small, no need for international headliners.

the best marketing there is in the psytrance is to collaborate with famous artists in the scene.

I am not saying they are good, I am saying the best ways to make lots of money on music might be to do commercial music without putting your soul into it. I do not think Avcii started out with money or friends in high places, his original FL studio stuff was not even browsed on Soundcloud until he was famous.

if you want to be really big & famous don't do tutorials. famous producers never teach anything!!!

some labels pay decent money for house music releases.

if you can produce psy trance music, you can produce house. u just need other kick samples!
personally I don't like the house scene, I prefer techno.
and the commercial house is a joke in my opinion.

In a broken industry, where natural way of things dont work no more its irrelevant
the way you promote things...

and everything start and ends in the money factor that simply music dont sell. end of story, it doesnt matter if its good or bad, if its original or not, if its perfectly mixed or not
it simply dont sell, and due to that it creates a chain reaction:

1 music dont sell.
2 labels dont make money
3 labels dont pay to buy artists music
4 labels dont search for new music
5 labels stop working as market filters
6 Artists create their own labels in atempt to have releases
7 music quality drops, because there is anything filtering the quality, so the market becomes flooded with content (most part without quality for the consumer)
8 As true labels dont search for artists due to broken market, becomes more dificult for new talents emerge
9 people with more PR skills are likely to reach sucess than naturaly gifted musitians
10 people like Paris Hilton become a DJ

So you see, its broken world...
it doesnt matter the type of promotion non-intrusive or intrusive, will led you to the exact same, its all a matter if people is keen to waste time with electronic music for the sake of it, or if your just seeking money...

"its all a matter if people is keen to waste time with electronic music for the sake of it, or if your just seeking money... "

again and again this comes up "just seeking money".

how about another possible scenario? you do it for the sake of it, but you also need, you know, food, walls, a roof.

producers create their own labels. and some chose to give away their tunes for free. because the music ends up being pirated anyway.... :-/

when the money making machine is broken, those who stay are basically the ones who really love the scene and the music.

someone may chose to go to house to get some extra money. and keep doing both genres.
although I know people who totally stopped doing and playing psy.

for those who really need money, do not waste your production skills by being stuck.
never stop making music.
be adaptive and pro active. even if that means to produce other genres, as well.
producers may not feel at home in other dance scenes, but there are opportunities.

I've been watching tutorials, and trying to learn other genres.
new techniques, new sounds.

if you network with people inside the scene, is not irrelevant. it can get you gigs. it is not the traditional marketing, it's more like... personal marketing.
when artists are always workin on new music, and if they are interesting, someone will call them to play.

It doesnt matter,

in the current times you need a regular job.

because you will not make money from music, you can even create a label and release 10 albuns in a year...

in the end, you will not make money from music, no one is buying it.

the only way you can make money in the music industry, its by wanting to make money, and behaving like you want to make money
and for that, you need implement strong strategys, and by making thouse strategies, your completly giving away any personal idea about your own vision about music
your only worried about having certain output, and making use of the right networks

but make no mistake, if your just a person who wants genuinly to make music from your soul, (especialy psytrance) dont expect to make money from it.

imo it really depends on how far you really want to go, as an artist.
and how far you want to go, behind your comfort zone.

do you really want to grow up as an artist?

don't expect much money from labels and sales! money comes from the gigs. and personal support from fans.
psytrance is not a genre that gets many attention from people, unless they see you play.

in my opinion psytrance is one of the few genres where you can still make music from your soul. and you don't really need to follow rigid standards.
unless you want to play like the most commercial psy artists.... but that reminds me of that loud video "why psytrance is sh*t"

you missed that my point was strictly about selling music promotion

having gig's by using networks, friendships, or behaving a like complete hooker persuiting promoters in order to play its other complete different thing

and by the way, not everyone wants to behave like a hooker, some people have pride you know?

I think it's better to pursue promoters than labels!
you can get better results with promoters!!!!

promoters go after big and popular artists, who bring people to their events. and people = money.
but with small artists, promoters act like they are doing them a favor by letting them play. specially if you are not in their friends list...
but people have to start somehow.

it's in your bio that you played at ozora. remember how you got that gig!
