Psytrance and Drug Use.

Hello, I've been listening to Psytrance since I was 12 years old, always been alone in my own hobby, I dont really know anyone else who do like Psytrance that I can share it with so I am clueless about the scene.

My first post on this forum and I am happy that I've found it and I would like to ask you a question that bother's me from my very first days of admiring this music.

First of all about my experience, I never used drugs or any other alike method but when I hear this amazing music, from specific Artists anyway, I feel like I am passing to the next level, like its makes me smarter each time I hear it and I am proud to say that Its help me a lot in my life and in my service at the army, help me setup my mind and everyone around me think and I can feel that I am a bit more cleaver than the rest in our company. (with all the ego inside it:P )

Anyway my favorites are Electric Universe, Space Tribe and a bit Koxbox.

I have the whole discography of Electric Universe and Space Tride, I love supporting my Artists so I've bought as much as possible albums of them to show my love but yet there are still some I am missing as they are no longer available, so basicly Torrent is the key.

It's amazing how they effect me, I can tell you that everytime I hear them and specially when I go to sleep right after I can see extreme bright deep purple color's and I feel my connection to the world, unexplainable, just amazing how gifted are those people to be able to make such beautiness.

I never used, never will and clearly not support drug use but I am well aware the whole scene is based on them.

Now for my real questions, do really all the "top" artists use drugs? specially those I like? I mean I find it a bit depressing me if they do.

And is it true that the whole scene (by people fan's and all those who go to the parties) are using drugs or its decaying and there are hardly any user's anymore? I've read somewhere that the use of drugs in the psytrance has been reduced drasticlly.

Thank you very much!
Best Regards,
Eliran Cohwn.

I support the responsible use of drugs!

Why would you be turned down if the artist use drugs? 80% of this world uses drugs, be it caffeine, alcohol, marihuana or something else.

I don't think the use of drugs has reduced.. It is pretty stable over the years i'd say.           soundcloud.com/supergroover

I once heard a politician admit that you don't need to have a good IQ to be in the state Senate , on 'Religulous' by Bill Maher.

First answer me this:
Do you have to be a mindless zombie to obey orders from people who are less intelligent than you?

i don't know either.. my friends tell me that they like it sometimes because it's fun, but i prefer the sober view of life which i believe is the right one. so, don't lose your time my friend.

I have always looked at drug use as riding a bicycle with stabilisers on. It seems that many of us grow up in a culture where by some form of drug is used to help us socialise. One day some of these people learn to do "ride with out the assistance of the stabilisers". Perhaps, unfortunately many don't.

If you are able to reach that magic place with just the power of the music and your own mind then you are doing very well. To take drugs now would to be to go backwards.

I have tried both ways. When I am feeling lazy can you guess what option I choose?

I've heared that Talpa (Which I respect very much) is against drug's and I also able to confirm that by 2 of his tracks aka "People Are Animals" which tell a story about a girl that got depressed of drugs and "Trust No Goblin" where the goblin aka the drug tries to blow your mind.

Quite Ironic but just a point of view:P

well I am sure a big part of this scene was about doing whatever you like to enjoy. So dont over think the issue, if you dont like it, you dont want to, just dont consume.

Some music is made to be enjoyed while on drugs, that is true. If you wanna see what is all the fuzz about you have to experiment it yourself.

There's always 2 sides in a coin, like Supergroover said, responsible use of drugs.
I would ask how does it feel to be in the army?
To me thats more absurd than "not supporting the use of drugs", not all drugs are the same and have the same impact on a person, heroin is totally diferent from ecstasy, and meth is completly different from LSD, in fact its like downwards vs upwards

I have seen drug abuse in its fullest. A large majority of of people i was close with 4-5 yrs ago have had their lives dominated by addictions.
I have consumed most chemicals. I have never developed dependency to anything other than alcohol.
"Drug" is a blanket term that trys to show all illegal chemicals in a negative light. I have great faith in the powers of certain substances and believe they deserve a space in the psytrance culture. I have tried to express my opinion while still showing that i have encountered the EVIL "Drugs ". Personal Freedom. Make you're own choices, respectively!

^^ EVIL is not a word for drugs, more suitable word to describe minds i'd say. highly addictive suits better, it's a less ''fearsome" word to describe what you're afraid of..

Many drugs are not highly addictive, so it would very missleading naming them.

There are already names for them: narcotics, psychoactives, stimulants, depressives, hypnotics.           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."
