Psytrance and Drug Use.

My first intense connection with psytrance was on a trip and I felt as if I had entered a different, deeper, state where I could feel how interconnected we all are. Is this negative?

Now, I listen to psytrance all the time, while walking my dogs or going for a run and can appreciate different things about it, but also recalling those initial feelings.

I view taking a trip as a sometimes experience, with good friends, good vibes, and fantastic music. I'm working on my PhD (look, a productive drug user! I know so many.) and I feel like when I return from these experiences, I have a renewed and deeper sense of self and more drive to be productive and contribute towards society. I don't view this as something to look down upon.

If I look at the drug which has given me the most grief and has made me the least productive, hand down it would be alcohol. In fact, there is zero competition.

I once heard a public radio interview with good ol' Timothy Leary, who described the occasional use of acid as a tuning fork for the soul. This struck me as true.

How is this depressing?

Many drugs are not highly addictive, so it would very missleading naming them.

There are already names for them: narcotics, psychoactives, stimulants, depressives, hypnotics.

if it looks like a duck, if it walks like a duck, if it quacks like a duck, then what is it? ... That’s right, it’s a duck!

Sorry I had to say that:P Fit so well:)

Well anyway I love Psychedelic trance, always will and always had, if god likes any kind of music, it must be this one and beside I think people who dont like it (now its racist) are simply stupid because the music is just too "smart" for them and they brain simply cant analyse so many samples at once which are not connected to each other:P

What would you say about that?:) honestly it's really make sense to me haha

i have some herbs that can help remedy that situation. its kinda like murder. 'the company' ego's wont bother you anymore and when you look in the mirror, you won't feel a need improve your looks, or boost your esteem saying ,"im more clever" than so and so
it will help 'the company' accept you and others and their shortcomings.

pm if interested

drugs and musicians (in fact artists in all media) have always been a pretty common mix... its certainly not something unique to psytrance or even electronic music in general.

If it disappoints you to think that the people writing the music you love take or have taken drugs please also be sure to avoid artists such as

The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
Bob Dylan
Lou Reed
Led Zeppelin
Miles Davis
Nina Simone
Ella Fitzgerald
Eric Clapton
Tool
Jimi Hendrix
Janis Joplin
Joni Mitchell
Santana
Sting
Ray Charles
Primal Scream
The Prodigy
Neil Young
Guns n Roses
Fleetwood Mac
Pink Floyd
Nirvana
Black Sabbath
James Brown
.....you get the idea... the list gets longer and longer.

In fact its MUCH harder to make a list of musicians who haven't ever used drugs! Especially good ones

Pink Floyd should top the list           Mushrooms make you do crazy stuff. Look at Mario he jumps on animal heads and fights with dragons.

You don't know much about drugs. You put them all together in the same bag. You have been brainwashed by mass media.

If you have any real interest or curiosity in the topic at hand you should consult academic literature.

honestly what can you expect of someone who is in army?? brainwashing ...by mass media (religious institutions) etc is much worst then most of the substances you talked about.....
indeed if you know how to find this site you should be able to find other informative sites on substances and theur connection with the creativity ....           to use your head you have to go out of your mind

I'm like you. I got into psy trance through sober listening to the music, & then fell in love with the visual and party aspect as well. IME, the best psy is just too intense when you're not sober.

That said, my favorite band (Ozric Tentacles) were a bunch of mushroom heads. There's something to be said for altered states of mind and their ability to inspire/influence the creation of great music. Drug use is for sure one piece of the puzzle and one factor in (some) musicians' creativity. But I don't think it's required that you share all the experiences of the artist before you can appreciate their art.

Bottom line, if you don't want to 'experiment' with drugs, don't worry about it. There are other pathways and walkways that reach the sublime
