I still do...
music is music. you cant sit there and categorize it under (good) and (bad) folders. I like trance, psy-trance, techno, electronic-dance, rock, metal, new age, alternative and world music...not to mention some classical and international tunes too.

strictly in my opinion, I dont think its right to look down on any genre.

Hi there! good thread djparanormal

As a guitar addict I had long thoughts about all this since I dived into deep trance.

I believe every type of music has a lot to do with trance, as i see trance as a genre that has space (and need) to all influences. Trance music is made of everything and needs every diferent sound and actitude to achieve variety and evolution!

Rock spirit therefore comes in strong nowadays because people and part of the trance scene is going after pure power, adrenaline, and fun! Rock guitars fit like a glove in this today spirit. I don't see fullon as a light version of trance, although there's a lot of basic/unispired fullon tracks nowadays. It's more towards energy than towards psychedelic expansion, and that's fine for me! every genre aims at a diferent direction, and there are moments for all I think.
Black/Doom metal influences are all around in the dark night trance scene, and they can be killer!
Etnic influences are all over spiritual trance.
Psychedelic rock, acid techno and a lot more are in the source of psychedelic trance.
Blend it all and make a fine soup! that's trance experimentation at it's very best.

One thing about guitars: guitar is one of the most versatile instruments in the world, with guitar and effects you can achieve almost any sound.. It's a pitty that the guitar is used in such a small/repetitive way, distortion and riff and nothing more.. the aggressiveness comes with the use, not with the instrument. Guitars hae a lot to give to trance, i believe, respect them and explore them! They can be more psy that any sinth machine, and they are sad not to be understood

Psy rocks for the rocking spirit and flies for the seeker spirit!

Have fun,
