No! I have never seen those guys before because I don't go to parties that often anymore.

But that's not the point anyways.

It just doesn't make sense to stand next to that speaker with your kid -asleep-! Does it?

Come on tell me... Truly. Would you take your kid to a party while he was sleeping, take him next to the speaker, and dance with him?

I have 2 friends who had ear operations lately mostly because they like to dance in front of speakers. Well I do like it too. And possibly that kid will need those ears so that s/he can enjoy the music when s/he grows up. Isn't it?

I suppose the parents like to pose more that they care about their kid. What a lousy couple. I wish they were reading these lines.

Oh by the way.
I don't know these guys (parents), maybe they are "too cool" and they do not have too much education or experience on parenthood well let's just say OK, but how come noone else explains them about such a thing? I just don't get it.
I just don;t even get the idea of a party organizer letting them in to the party.

They were certainly parents I would not want to have for myself. Or for any other kid that I am around.

i was a bit taken aback when i saw the baby there as well. i respect the 'hippiness' aspect of the psychedelic scene. whilst seeing children at outdoor festivals/events is 'acceptable' (b/c there's an area or their tent where one can lay down the child away from the noise), i don't comprehend bringing them to an environment like that last friday. i'm not going to judge the parents, b/c i don't know them, but i do agree that they should have had more discretion for the sake of the child.

I agree - I do not like seeing the child at parties ether. It bothers me. My girlfriend also brought up a good point. What if the cops came and broke up the party? Since the party is not a “safe and suitable” environment for the child, they would probably lose custody of the child. Even if you could ignore all of the other questions raised by the child being there, is it worth the risk?           my cat is deathly afraid of aluminum foil

we have friends that bring thier kids to partys too, and generally its not possible, in bars and such.
but when it does happen, i think of how bad it really could be, with the parents leaving the kid alone in the car or something.
if children are brought up in parties, then they can sleep thru anything except when the sound cuts off.
parenting is one thing you cant pretend to know much about unless youve tried it.

but there are probably a lot of babysitters looking for work ....

I saw a kid at a party too once - but the parents were nice enuff to put earplugs in the kids ears so that the child could sleep without any problem. Moreover this is really upto the parents to decide - I mean my parents left me alone with the maid and went to parties when I was growing up, and I am not sure if that was right either. There is nothing wrong with bringin your child to these parties - specially after the smoking ban in NYC (that could be the only reason why I think it would be bad - if you take precautions for the childs ears ofcourse). So lets not be so judgmental guys - its hard to have a social life after you have children - its better this way - or else the parents may end up resenting the existence of their child - which could be far worse.

i missed the omnitribe party but i saw these guys at trancegiving. My friend and I were very startled at first to see a two yr old child romping around the dancefloor(there was also an 80 yr old woman and a naked guy), but when we sat down and played with her she was incredibly smart. a very observant girl who had been through everything with her mommy and daddy. I agree that maybe big loud rooms with lots of smoke are not the best places for developing minds but after hearing the story of that mother(its not for me to post here) but she is not in any condition to leave her child at home with a nanny. what was amazing to me was how after a while i realized that the little girl was sort of baby sitting us instead of us babysitting her. i mean, why should we do anything that we would be embarassed to do in front of a little girl. If smoking is bad for her than its definitely bad for us too. right? maybe more kids at parties will give us some perspective. . . just thinking out loud.           ein chadash tachat hashemesh. there is nothing new under the sun. --kohelet.

Zero,

Although the way you think is good I wouldn't say you are right about that.

quoting zero:
"i mean, why should we do anything that we would be embarassed to do in front of a little girl."

this is not the point of the discussion!

quoting zero:
"If smoking is bad for her than its definitely bad for us too. right?"

Then: we should also lower the volume of the music!
Right? If we go with your logic I mean.
If you ask me everything, everyone has a place and a time.

We are not trying to bring perspective in to the parties.
We are at the parties to have FUN! With loud music, drugs, dancing etc.

I don't think we need this kind of perspective in a party. I mean in our lives yes we do need the perspective. But why should we put a child's health in to danger just to "bring a diff. perspective in to our nightlife?"

So shall we also bring some people who are also suffering with diseases such as cancer, HIV and etc. to get some more perspective?

If you are going to parties to get perspective what do you do when you are not partying?
Do you not get enough of perspective when you are not partying?

Why don't you all go and get the perspective in the proper places.

Such as go to a kindergarten if you want to know more about kids. Or even better baby sit someones baby.

This is just sounds like why we have the ZOO's in the city.
We can''t go to Africa so we want to get a perspective on animals by caging them.

By taking them away from their habitats.

Yeah let's take kids and babies and elderly to the parties and let's observe them while we are on acid. VERY GOOD IDEA! In the name of getting the perspective let's watch this kid in front of the speakers damaging her ears. Yeah maybe when she is 16 she might have an equipment plugged into her ears to listen to some good trance?

Why don't we just put ourselves into some perspective instead?

I agree with the ear damage point.. totally disagree with everything else. There's absolutely nothing wrong for a kid to see people dancing, tripping, doing whatever else. Kids who are exposed to things grow up faster and smarter.

but if you bring the kid, bring earplugs for the kid, too. And clubs are pretty lame anyway - nothing wrong with children at outdoor festivals. We should ask John Phantasm about Junya.

point takin salmon,, your reducto ad absurdum was impressive. . . i agree with you i was just telling you what i was thinking at theparty. your absolutely right in practice. i was just thinkin out loud. . . but i still think that there is more than one side to this. . . knowing this particular situation. . . i cant really say anyway, dont have any kids yet           ein chadash tachat hashemesh. there is nothing new under the sun. --kohelet.

As i told before
Good thinking but not necessarily right.
Don't take it personal .

The reason why I started this conversation here was to get all sides of the story, in fact.

I was at the party too.
It suprised me seeing that noone really said anything to those people about what's going on.
This was the reason why I did not approach to the parents at the party because I knew there was another side although I still don't know about that.

But now if I see them again I know I will go and check the kid's ears for the sake of my trip.

Because I can not have fun if there is something wrong around me.

I felt like we were numbed by either the drugs or somethingelse so that noone would react and do/tell something about about it.

I have no problem with kids at the outdoor parties. And i never had any problems with tripping at anyones' presence. Including my family.

thanks to all those who replied

Just an idea: Should there be a bowl of earplugs at the entrance of any party provided by the organizer?
