The quantities of psy I require for my personal listening pleasure will have me deep in debt if I had to pay for all of it.

It's an addiction for me, it is a life style for me, it's something I am proud to be aware and a part of.

I consider all albums I receive online as promos and I threat them accordingly. Meaning I will not go and try to make money of it, try to get gig for having it, or trade it. I have respect to the music, the artist, and the label. I express my respect by going to parties, promoting labels, announcing releases, and introducing new styles and artists to people within the community.

Djing for me is not about gaining reputation, blowing up my ego, or making money. It is about creating great audio/sonic experiences to the listeners.

It is not new that music has powers; it has been used as a shamanic tool for millenniums. It should be respected and used properly as a tool to overcome fear, and spread love.

Future of the music market is online, allowing users to select individual tracks for instant download. I want to be able to compile my own compilation with selected tracks from labels and maybe directly from artists.

Mp3 is getting outdated by new lose-less audio formats. Keep an open mind folks, that’s my greatest advice to you, and mainly to you djs.

Go ahead point your finger at me and tell me that I am not a dj because I don't use vynil, and I'll wave my 40GB miniHD at you and laugh.

I hear you to an extent about that Dj Green... I used to get the vinyl only djs' scorn (non-psy djs) when I'd show up to a gig with a small cd wallet, till one of the guys threw out his back carrying his crate of records....

I tell ya though, carrying records in a crate is a good way to strength train...           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Seems to me mp3 trading is the last thing people should be worried about when wav trading is becoming increasingly popular over the net these days.

I got into goa trance by downloading astral projection mp3s from mp3.com back in Dec. 02. The main reason I discovered goa was by accident. I was actually looking for ambient music. Had it not been for mp3.com, I wouldn't probably be listening to psytrance today.

MP3s help people discover this music(ESPECIALLY IN THE UNITED STATES!!!!). It's not like an average joe can walk into a local music shop and see issues of Psychedelic Madness Vol.1. It's not fucking happening. It would've been extremely impossible for me to listen to this music in high school mainly because I had no source to it. With the advent of the internet and mp3s, it became reality.

I'm not goning to even beat around the bush, I download music. At the same time, however, I also place an emphasis on the quality of music as well. I still buy music. The last album I bought was J.viewz's album. i plan to purchase shpongle 3 real soon. I operate like this: If I don't like at least 75% of the tracks on an album, it's not worth a purchase. People are bitching about artists putting effort into their music, blah, blah, blah, blah, but who's to say they actually do. I'm not going to shell out out money for crap. I've done it too many times, and I refuse to do it again. If you make an average quality music, then it deserves to get pirated by others. This all circles back to the point of people making products just to get money, fame, and popularity.

Okay here's something to ponder:

How many psytrance songs contain the farty sound. What like zillions???

So you mean to tell me constant repetition is worth a purchase? I don't even wanna get into composition because many psy artists seem like they don't know what the fuck that is anymore. Some of you guys don't even try to mix your music with different colors. It's like dark psytrance has become the greatest new thing all of a sudden.

I shouldn't be talking all this shit mainly because I'm not a producer. However, I'm tired of all of these eliest fucks who are never satisifed about a god damn thing.

-Someone spins with mp3s = someone bitches.
-Someone makes israeli style psy = someone bitches
-If its not dark psy = someone bitches.
-If a song don't have new sound effects = people bitch.
-If someone beats are slightly off in a dj mix = someone bitches.
-If a psy song has vocals = someone bitches.

He pretty much summed everything up. Instead of everyone getting all damn eliest about shit, you should be fucking grateful that you're actually able to get people to come out of their closests and enjoy this music. You should be even more grateful if you can get people to goto the events.

NEWSFLASH PSY PEOPLE: MOST PEOPLE DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT OUR MUSIC. In terms of all music poularity in the entire world, we come dead fucking last. And to most people, the beauty of this music is also dead fucking last.

So what am I trying to say:

I don't have to say anything. Francisco summed it all up at the beginning of this thread.

Buy it. Download it. Mix it. Produce it. Hum the damn main melody of a song for all I care. Be grateful you can actually convert people to it.

just to play devil's advocate:

some of the "great" dj's in our scene started their way by pusing in it with mp3's... they had good tunes and people noticed that they had skill - then later they got connected and did not need the mp3's to stand out.

i agree with Hidroponik about the oil and water thing.. good analogy dude.

i must agree with that!

here we go again... from http://www.chaishop.com/divers/frameset2.lasso?text2/m/sam04.html
a very interesting read for those interested in the future of music distribution..

The low quality of tracks in P2P networks and in iTunes have convinced many music lovers that MP3 can’t even get close to the CD. Ahead of all are the DJs that have anyway eaten the wisdom of sound with golden spoons. Technically they are right: MP3 does not represent the original sound data exactly as it was recorded. However the human ear is not a computer and has limited abilities to recognize sound. This makes it nearly impossible to spot a difference between a CD and an high-quality 320 kb/s MP3. The rapper Chuck D said in the MIDEMnet Conference this January in Cannes: “If somebody tells me he can hear the difference between a high-quality MP3 and a CD he should best pick a job as a scientist than working in the music industry.” If you don’t wanna become a scientist you might be interested to hear that some online shops have started to offer high-quality 256 or 320 kbit/s MP3s.

Psy trance hails from Goa, India where it was made popular on traded and copied cassette tapes. Many start up record companies pressed singles and the scene started to expand. Along came the DAT which allowed DJs and fans to swap copies between each other with almost no loss in sound quality. The introduction of the mini compact disc player was fruitless at first as the heavy bass caused them to skip. With the development of antiskip features and Pioneers introduction of the DJ-500 the music industry was revolutionized. Digital files could be effortlessly swapped with little sound degredation and played on CDs at events. The typical DJ went from carrying two record boxes containing a hundred or so vinyl records weighing in at 50+ pounds to a small box of 100s to 1000s of tracks. With the introduction of the MP3 audio format a DJ needs nothing more than a laptop computer to create, mix and play days worth of music.
Bootlegging has been around as long as it has been possible to record live music. It is a phenomenon which has enabled many bands go from obscurity to legendary. The Greatful Dead is one such band. Bootlegging will never go away and as long as there are ways to easily and cheaply record and swap music people will do it and continue to play it.

I would like a distribution online service were I could set up a label. I would send a tracklist with a promo package. Once I am approved I could both: press a CD and use regular retail outlets and dump the track in wav format p2p service were tracks are sold individually or by album.

I would have a label profile where ppl can see the artists and releases from my label, with mp3 128 kbps previews of the full track. Also I would love to have provide artists profiles attached to all the different labels they work with. Also through this system and a connection to a merchant account I could pay royalties on the fly, as well as receiving my part.... The distribution would get their cut on the sale.

We would have two types of gate keeping to ensure quality releases, exactly as we have now.

Also this service does not have to be centralized. There could be several pools for different distributors, but a portal type interfase to merge all of them.

Also I do not want to use a big conglomerate service. I would prefer if it is trance based... then it would be easy for this trance on/offline distributors to pursue verticals if they want more money.

It is easy to spin off loads a good services

i like www.resonantearth.com site, it's pretty much what you described - 128 for listening, 320 or lossless to buy. Really convenient to be able to listen to everything, but buy only the tracks you want.

digital structures recently started the same thing too. check out their online shop at www.mpdqx.com

you can listen to low quality samples of the whole song and buy 192, 320 or AAC mp3's all for the same price ($0.99 - $1.99 depending on when the track was released).

i just bought the ticon trav ep there, the sound quality is great, very crisp (better than some original cd's i own ). i would definately recommend this service.
