thanks mate for the detailed post ,good to know.. might be good times to pick a phatty second hand once that thing is out.. hard to judge just from the demo but i foud it to sound close to the phatty too.
for the price one could get almost the slim second hand + the ms 20 new , it would be a more versatile set up.
that would be a great set up i think.. the ms20 seem less meaty and not as dark they would probably complement well in a mix

Yes, the Moog presenter says that it ships with a VST/AU/Standalone editor that gives you preset support and full control over the panel if you for some reason want to spend a grand on a hardware analog and then not use the knobs

jaja.. Nooo.. I was hoping that u could load them in and use the knobs on hardware.

Exactly. Don't get me wrong, I love Moog, but they do tend to overprice their gear, mostly because Moog makes synths that have that sound that a lot of people love.

Anything I say, I say because I already have a Phatty and a Minitaur and in terms of sound design, you will have the Moog sound with the Phatty AND run circles around anything a (Sub) Phatty does, with the new MS-20. Who does not want Moog VCOs through an MS-20 VCF? And then there is all the stuff the MS-20 can do on its own. OK it won't have the same bass as the Moog synths, but it will make for far more varied lead sounds with the HPF and crazy mad modulation sounds with the semi modular capabilities.
And CV in/out at almost half the price of the Sub Phatty.

Its a no brainer for me.

that and you have the moog ringmod...
I will likely go for both the new ms 20 and the new Moog, even though it will take me a very long time to save up, unless I am lucky as I am currently looking for a permanent job 'cause the movie industry in BC suxx and I am not getting anywhere these days...

The MS-20 has an analog ring mod as well...you get all the sci-fi retro stuff I can get from the Moog Ring Mod.

but i think a small digital display would be great ...

Also ... if i have a little phatty ... what can the little phatty do that Sub phatty can't ?

The MS-20 is likely the first on my list as it costs a lot less (you have a point on the no brainer), but there is also something about Moog...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

looks like its the summer of the posfordites.

cant say how jazzed i am about this

even if its not as good as the origional it sets a whole new benchmark in what the customer can now expect,
instead of being lead around and exploited,

Well checking clips of the new and the old MS-20, they do not sound the same. Although the MS-20 Mini does sound unmistakably analog and the VCF has bags of character.

Having said that, this is a semi modular synth and its up to the new users to find the sweet spots and exploit the pros of the new MS-20, just like the old users of the old MS-20, did so many years ago.

This looks like a very fun synth, it does not sound as phat as the Minitaur, but it runs circles around it and the much more expensive Sub Phatty in terms of sound design. This is going to be a mean analog sound FX synth...and then there are all the leads that it will do...at almost half the cost of the Sub Phatty, brand new, with MIDI/USB.

2013 is looking great!

for drums and percussion the ms 20 will probably be great if its snappy

hopefully that new ms20 sound great making it a no brainer...

tbh it s not possible that roland don t even consider coming back making analog synths.. if there is enought market to make good money.. would be a great thing to see a new jupiter or a sh...

i dont think its a matter of going bask to making analog
Rolasnd over the years have painted themselves into a digital corner, and with the numbers they deal in theres no way that they could afford to retrain or employ new staff, develope a factory to produce the equipment, let alone research and developement to go analog again
. today its all about keeping the shareholders happy
wheras korg have been slowly edging their way towards full analog production by bringing out small products that people can hack, (open source product developement) which was a very cunning idea
and have raised the cash needed to develope that side of the buisness and justified the expenditure

i doubt they will make any money of the MS20 mini, but i think that they never wanted that in the first place.
but will probably be able to ask for vmore cash to expand the research and developement
so its a matter of wait and see what next from that team at korg

so my point being that some ships are just too big to turn around

I reckon the new MS-20 (just need some good HD demos on youtube to confidently say if it sounds good), will sell like hot cakes.

Unless their cost for research and development was huge, I think they will cash in big time from it and hopefully see into re making the Monopoly next.

From what I heard so far it only has this extra overdrive/distortion thing...the rest sounded pretty much like a phatty I think.           My first track:
