hey, it's i got a great idea i gathered from mine and people thoughts:
buyer becomes a part of a label in some way. when he buys more cd's of some label, he gain points which give him access for downloading some cool tune once a 1-2 months or more (comparing to his status), he also can get lower prices for label parties, lower prices for a next release if he buys it from the net, even some cool t-shirt or poster of the label (or some related thing) when he buys lets say 5th or 10th release of the label will come with cd he ordered. its even can start with access to some cool wallpapers, even some small sound kits made by artists for those who create  also you can add to this goodies some single cd (with no serious artwork and package), and also give opportunity to new artists on those single cd's that will be for free.
and much more goodies can be found by our minds...
myself i see its fun, to find myself sitting in let's say Iboga t-shirt, downloading my present track, getting lower price on next release that will also bring me more points for next thing, and going to Iboga party with some status of getting dropped price

hi cedric!
i wish you all the best for your new label!
now my opinion to the problem you asked for: i think its the better way to go back to vinyl, its the only way to prevent from downloading/copying cds. look for example at the techno-scene, there you get most of the stuff on vinyl. We life in the digital age and as long as there is a possibility there will be people who download, no chance.

Cedric: such a great topic! First of all good luck for Mind Control!!! Second i'm ready to help in any good idea.
Dimitri: digitizing vinyl is quite easy, so only need 1 guy to do it and share it on the net. as they still do.
Prosect: to be able download depending on your credit is not a bad idea, but imagine that you can share it as well and then u r not inspired again.
giving t-shirt is good idea, but it's more expensive than a cost of a cd.
some cool ideas here! keep on guys!

yes, but it will attract more people to buy, they will use their credits, they will want more tune to get in next month. again, mp3 mafia will be on it too, but i think it will manage to help for sure among with all the other ideas i mentioned.

I think it would be a good idea in getting people to buy the cds. It doesnt have to be a T-shirt, well maybe if one gets like 10 points from the label? 10 cds is quite a lot you know Just give something small in return, where people cannot download in the net. Something yummy, or maybe use the credits to get some sort of discount from say a "Mind Control - Disc Holder (maybe hold 10 cd)?
Nano records has already started to give
something in return such as accessing the website to download bonus music and other goodies. I think other labels should to. Labels cant expect to increase sales without being creative in this scene, when it is so small and downloading is "a here to stay thing"
Maybe Mind Control or other labels could start off something. Credit system sounds good, if you dont try you will never know right? I buy 3-4 cds every mth and if i get something extra, be it from the shop or the label, i will for sure return to buy from them. The extra doesnt have to be big! Give me a damn sticker or a nice tray card and i will be happy |

And may i add on something from an interview from Manu label-head for Turbo Trance records from revolve magazine. I got my copy of it today, quite a nice mag One of the questions being asked was
"Can psytrance survive in its present form; does it have to be marketed more commercially and how does this effect label releases?"
Manu's reply
I dont think that Psy-Trance has to be marketed more commercially, even if I'm not against that but there are different points to change if we dont want to say "Adios" to the professional side of this music scene.
People working in this scene (labels, artists, promoters, etc) have to be more professional and serious! Then, the most important is that everybody has to understand that trading, copying, downloading music is not good! The selling of all labels i going down 40% and soon 60%. It means that 50% of trance labels will disappear in the next two years.

Now that sounds rather scary! I do not want it to disappear in 2 years  I love psytrance! Labels, step up a lil and promote more creatively. I am not saying you guys do not know what you are doing, pls do not misunderstand me, i mean no harm Try and experiment a lil, i dont think it would hurt much, if it fails try again in a different way. A coment to the recent debate here, on Elportal.Net , our new portal about electronic music we are exactly working on a point system that also was suggested here...we are launching a very ambitious project and i hope that people with welcome it. Its just around the corner, we spent the last 1 and a half year on this portal and now is almost ready...More will follow soon...

some cool ideas....some bad ones too...eheheh...and some impossible to make...
let s begin with the easy ones....
To come back to vinyl is impossible , it cost more money to make , and nobody buy...all the labels stopped to do vinyl for the 15 djs who still buy them...and you can still of course copy it and give it on the net...
To answer one question above , the price of a cd from a label to the distribution company is around 7 dollars...the label has to pay the artists , all the label costs of course , the copyright , (which is fucking expensive!!!) , the factory to make the cds , the promotion and the cover.............the market went down so much , that to understand it you need some numbers i think....so here i will speak only about what i am sure about...in france , the best sell in trance all time is the lsd album of hallucinogen with 35000 cds...the compilation "distance to goa" had sold 28000 six or seven years ago...last year , i think my album was the best trance sell in france , and i sold less than 700 if i remember well.....you see the diference !?!?(and this is just for france..it is like this everywhere!!!!)
Now , to give tshirts is cool , but again , it is the shops who sell t shirts...if i send all of them 50 t shirts let s say to give to people who buy the cd , first of all it cost me a lot more , because i have to make a lot of tshirts with diferent sizes , and nothing proove me that they will not just sell it like any other t shirt....no the t shirt idea i think will be possible only through the website and cheap , but not free....it is not possible , and believe me , if i could give for free to everyone who read this a tshirt , i would do !!!!
Now , the website with tracks for 1 dollars i think it is a good idea , but again , to do this , i will need more time...it is not so easy to work like this...the site must be secured because of the credit card numbers , so in the end , after paying the visa company(or other...) and the company who will secure the transaction , the label will have left only 50 cts i think....
To pay less expensive for a party because you bought a cd is quite hard to promise also...as long as the people who make the party in every countries don t make money on our cds....many people believe that when they see a label party , the label is completly involved in the party...this is not so true....some organisations bring artists from the same label and use the name...with permission of course , but still...it is hard to promise something like this....
But we are talking a lot about all what you say all of you with my friends in chemical - crew label....as you might know , our two labels will join forces to find a solution....you can already notice that the next chemical crew compilation is a double cd , and they sell it for the price of a simple one , which is a great effort for a first release...we will see if this can work....
Anyway , i ll come back to read more about this , i am very happy to see that instead of complaining , people are trying to find a solution...i can not promise anything except that if we don t change something in our way of thinking , the scene will be seriously affected...but again , and like all of you (i hope) i am very optimistic.....

remember how the arcadia cd with frenchman on it was copy proof? what of this? i'm not sure how expensive the technology is, but it could help.

hey mist , how are you ? everything ok in dallas ????hehehe.....to answer you , the copy protection is , from my point of view , complete bullshit.....just because of this i wanted to find a way to be abble to extract it....and of course i found easily....and this costed 1.8 dollars each cds instead of 1.3 dollars each (they were made in japan...)so it doesnt worth it...
I think we should all of us make a big label association to speak with distribution companies about this problem....as i said upper , mind control is working now with chemical crew , the new skazi and friends 's label , this is a beginning...
I am very happy to see that people are worried about this....it gives us motivation...
PS : elysium project.....is this the elysium i know ? christian ? |

For a start, it could just start small like some nice stickers. T-shirts comes later maybe? But it's not 1 CD and 1 Free t-shirt (thats quite absurd)! Maybe after buying, for example 10-15 cds from "Mind Control" or "Insert Label Here" the buyer gets 10 or 20% discount for buying the t-shirts or any merchandise |
