First of all good luck with the new label "Mind Control".
We at Iboga records / Elportal.Net have also been thinkin over n´over about the whole business situation of our scene. I think that enough time has past that we have come to a point where we will see a bunch of people who has a long history in this scene and still have their hearts into what they do, like Cedric for instance. Its people like this who in the end will beat the challenge and win the battle against those pirates who dont care and gives a damn about morale, our scene is very fragile but in the years to come the creativity and experience will overcome the hard times and finally get the derserved by hard work with the sleeves up.
We have many ideas how to contribute and this the world will see very soon. Offcourse there are no garanties but as long as you have your heart with you, you can atleast say that you gave it your best shot.

I also wish your elportal.net all the best.. It's a cool idea and I can see that a lof of people visit the portal already
I just hope that people will jump on the bandwagon and start buying their music online. I am just a bit sceptic when it come to their choice between buying online or getting it for free... But time will tell if I am wrong or right

For a lot of people it will be welcome that there atleast is the opportunity to buy tracks from download, this wasnt possible before these days and the time to come...My hopes are very optimistic and i will keep that attitude

well this artist made me so good i feel i want to buy his album and give him some back!!!(after the downlaoding, i cant see how would i know your music without the net)
and beleive me i boughet several cds like that and i know a lot of people do so not only in trance msuic so this is the best solution ican offer and i think a lot will agree with me
and now honestly i planed buying "zodiac" bbut the cd store near my home didnt had it so another solution...good distrbution hahaha:P:);) |

limbic also shows a good point here..The cd shops only take a certain amount "home" for their shop, and most cds will sell out and most dont come back to the shop again, so if you want to buy a cd long after the release its maybe hard to find, but easy to find on the net at all times...this everybody knows and the solution is to have good onlineshops where people can buy downloads 24 hours everyday and allways the tracks sought after are available...These shops are popping up now so the time has come to separate the black sheeps from the rest

i'm sure the music will be good!
somehow, to me it seems the only way is to not try and compete with free, by lowering prices, but instead really make people feel like they are a part of the label if they buy a cd. just the music almost isn't enough these days, but maybe if 'friends of mind control' that had bought legit cd's maybe give out some shirts once and a while or give some copies away randomly to people who had bought other releases/ ok, sounds a bit crazy i know, but, people want music and they have money, so it's not that, it's just that since burning and mp3's, people also know there is 'another way' and thats the problem....
login on the site where 'friends of mind control' have early access to releases? special remixes? benefits for having actually bothered to shell out the cash for the product.....added value they call it i think |

People get the CD 10 € on internet. 12, 15 ... 20 € in shops....
So how much is a CD when a label sell it to distributor ? How much it cost to be produced ?
If you sell by internet (let say the whole album. Not track by track) what the best price a label can do ?
Remember, except tax (there are places with lesser tax than others) there's almost no charge. You don't need to print, burn, stock and send anything, etc....
You only need to invest a minimum : select a nice collection of tracks, make a downloadable cover for the people to print it, put them all in hight quality on a server and ask for money.
Lot of people here, are involved in labels and I don't know if this idea is good or not but what would be a fair price your work ?
And like SirEel said , you can had value. Get a Tshirt every 10 downloads... Or bonus tracks... or whatever... |

What I would like to know is how much you can sell a downloadable album on a website.
After that, we can start thinking about how much people are ready to pay...

hi cedric, (and all), good luck to u and farid with the new label.. keep blasting.. here's what i think on the downloads thing
i figure we are never gonna stop downloading/copying cds,,,
so the answer is simple - - buy more...
if everybody who downloads (and burns cds) just buys one (or one more) cd every few months,, the change in the market will be huge,,,
there must be about 20,000 or more potential trance buyers (people who whould/have bought trance) world wide,,,
if we all bought 4 cds a year,, i'm telling u it would help a huge deal and you can burn all you want ,, just buy more too
- its not really that expensive when u compare it to whatever else you can get for the cash,,, if the cd is good that is,,,,,
the problem comes when people dont want to buy something and then find that they are unsatisfied with the product,,,
therefore high standards help (and anything else that can influence consumer loyalty),,, so if buyers understand that they will recieve a good cd or at least like 5 of the 9 tracks then there is more chance they will buy it and the buy more again,,, (one dollar per track on personal cd is a great idea,, and may prove affordable for the labels too)
summarised:: so many shit labels,, so much shit music,, so many unsatisfied buyers - - educate the listeners,, let them download,,, then they will buy,,, help the scence help itself - its easy

Yo Cedric mate,
congratulations from mother india on the launch of Mind Control... im sure its gonna be ultra kick ass.... and will have more of your individual message and identity in the music. .. so we are al really lookin forward to it .
And about this entire music copying/downloading etc etc. well i think there is no way we can do anythign to prevent it . i mean if such music biggies like Sony , warner , Emi , Universal etc etc could not really do anythign about it . Then i highly doubt that us little trancers can control the free flow of information on the net .
I agree with Chris (shift) that basically we have to give a better quality product , with better packagin and artwork , that people would wangt to buy and be proud to own. Ifyou see... in the japanese market , most people take pride in buying an owning an original cd... its the whole concept of having a collection and adding to it...
I am pretty certain that over time.. as labels we will have to embrace the Digital music revolution.... and possibly work out some way to distribute music directly to the consumer over the net... this has been seen in a small way with apples ipod. but i think in time.. we wil have to work on it and develop the idea...
anyway ... thats it for now.
