Hey anybody from SF or the bay area. I'm looking for any psy trance that's like Parus in that the beat doesn't stop. most of what I've heard from the DJs here it's not my style. I like it to be more trance, like the old stuff.

(and hopefully you won't suggest anyone I've seen babbling on the dance floor during Parus' set cos that's disrespectful of the people there to enjoy it and the person(s) playing it!)

This is psychedelic trance, after all. and we want to be there for that. We can talk outside if we want to. Respect! Come on SF.

Thanks!

Something like this would be cool too. The beat doesn't stop. That's called trance. And when coupled with cool sounds that you dig, that's what moves you inside and out. That's called psychedelic trance.
Just giving you guys a heads up, SF. In case you know any DJs or artists like that here.

Thanks!

saying "I like it to be more trance" isn't very helpful because different people have different ideas of what "trance" is

but I think I get what you're saying... I think you might enjoy Leo Hawk's DJ sets, they're pretty relentless.

Maybe fractal cowboys or Infinite Sun as well?

If you don't like any of them, tell us what it is you don't like about them so I know what to suggest.

Also, what is your experience of SF's trance scene so far? We have a billion DJs and more than a handful of producers, each of which has a slightly different style.

Now that I think about it, Jen/Infinite sun might just be the DJ for you.

Yeah sure people have different ideas of what trance is, but like I said, what I mean is, the beat doesn't stop. I don't know how to describe it any more than that. Most djs I've heard here play tracks that have about a minute and half of straight beat, then a break down, or the low cuts out for too long, or something like that that breaks it. It's like they don't know or something, sad to say. In my most humble opinion of course!

How about using the two examples I gave above to have an idea what I mean? Have you heard Parus play, compared to others here? There's a difference. They play long measures of uninterrupted beat. Same with the soundcloud link there.

Please share some links with me so I can listen to your suggestions.

How long of an interruption is too long? Do you not want the beat to drop out for even a single bar?

Very few producers produce music with /no/ breakdowns, and DJs can only play music that producers make.

Honestly it sounds like you'd probably enjoy techno or tech house more than most of today's trance...

Next time Parus play, come to the gig and see what I mean. They don't waste time with frills, they just pump it out nonstop.
And for heaven's sake please listen to that set on soundcloud I posted to hear what I would also like to hear in a set around here on the more funky side! Otherwise I'm relegated to my ipod and dancing in the park at midnight like a crazy person!

I've seen parus play a lot. I know what they sound like. No one sounds exactly like them though, so I'm trying to figure out exactly how similar it needs to be and in what way?

PS: go to red marines festival, parus are the organizers so I'm sure it will have music similar to what they play.

btw the problem you are having is that not a lot of people are looking for the same thing

the SF psy scene is full of people who like breakdown/buildup fullon on one hand and people who like insane crazy trauma trance on the other hand. It seems like very few are into the simple consistent beat (most of them are older and don't go to parties as often). Which is frustrating to me as that's exactly what I like

Listen to Infinite Sun's dj set "333" which you can stream/download on this website, tell me if you like it...

You also might like this mix I made a year or two ago. Tell me what parts you like and don't like! I need feedback

rich, SF contains a rich (hehe punny) and varied trance scene that represents all styles. we have parus, and we also have fractal cowboys (dylalien and quasar), mubali, ghreg on earth, sunchild, leohawk, infinite sun, the entire team infinity crew, et al et al, oh and dare i mention myself aswell... it is a bit disrespectful to ask us all to play music like the twins. but i kinda get what u mean. a lot of those DJs listed above play pretty relentless and pure PSY trance music. my music is a little more experimental but still on the relentless side.

u can check out my soundcloud here... http://soundcloud.com/dogoftears the songs there represent many ends of the spectrum of styles i play from funky and slow to fast and dark and inbetween.

@dogoftears I think what he likes about parus is that it doesn't have any long breaks

most of the fullpower/dark/forest/whateverthefuckit'scalled DJs around here like to play music with tons of weird breaks and slowdowns and glitchouts etc etc...

...which is trippy and fun to experience but it gets old fast and it's annoying when all you want to do is dance and lose yourself in the beat. It's like trying to fall asleep and every 30 seconds someone flicks you on the nose.

Thanks dog. No I don't expect anybody to play like anybody else, that's not it at all. people can play whatever the hell they want. I'm just asking if there are others here that play trance, without all the interruptions that a lot of dark psy and full on music has. Sounds like Shiranui knows what I'm talking about.
I only posted this after coming back from the show last saturday where I went for Parus's set. The guy right after him immediately started playing something that propelled me out the door. I don't know what it is man. The beat was just wack lol

Mubali is dope, so is GoE but I haven't seen them around lately. Last time I saw Fractal Cowboys at a renegade beach party they were great, but with so many people babbling and yapping on the dance floor I had to get out of there (what is it with that poser shit anyway don't they like the music?) I've heard the dog of tears tracks on sc and I like them for their punk rock attitude of doing whatever you want. Experimental is ok for sure.

Btw, Shiranui, I listened to Infinite Sun's mix and it's ok, but most of it was kinda boring actually. Couple tracks are ok. Some of her mixing is that cut the low end with the next track thing that bugs me. Your set was good until the second track came on lol then once in a while I'd hear one that's ok.

Anyway Green Nuns are coming so FTW!
