A question of curiosity. Israelis seem to be the movers and shakers of the New York psy scene. I'm wondering if that's true as well in California which also has a big Israeli expat community. I'm curious because there's a fairly significant population of Israelis here in Boston, but not so many in the psy scene and I'm wondering if that's just because they don't know about the scene here or what or if it's because we just seem to get a higher proportion of Herzaliya finance-student types as opposed to karahana types. And if it's because the shanti ones just don't know about the scene here how to find them.

Fortunately we have a huge Brazilian community here (approximately 1 million Portuguese speakers in Mass!) who do come out to parties. I wonder what role groups from other psy-hot-spot places play in forming psy-scenes in N. America such as Mexicans or Japanese in Cali and how these groups add affect the flavor of the scene and the style of music played.

From my experience, there's a big brazilian and Israeli influence down in Southern California. NorCal tends to have more of a Russian vibe although there are quite a few Israelis up there too....

Also on another note, the Indian community has settled in several parts of the midwest and Boston as well from what I've been told.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

I have a bunch of Israeli friends here in Denver also and yes they are the movers and shakers, all night very little resting.
Always asking where the people are?
They usually have like 1-2 cars packed full to and very generous with donations.
I love to see these guys show up I love high energy psytrancers, they help elivate the energy of the party.
I know lots of US trancers with high energy to but it seems that 90 percent of the international trancers I have met are full powered!

I guess a lot of what I'm wondering about is how certain groups found the psy scene here, especially if they're coming from places where flyers and word-of-mouth are the main way people hear about parties, and how to get the word out to those to those who miss the psy-scene from home, but haven't yet found the psy scene in the States. (This is not the umpteenth post about making psy more popular, I'm more concerned with finding people already on the bus but who don't realize that there are Americans who like to party too).

I'm an org and I really want to get more people out to our parties who haven't been to a psy party since Goa, Rio, Berlin, or Tel-Aviv, because they're so excited to reconnect with that here and that enthusiasm is so contagious to everyone else on the dancefloor.

those israelis have no tolerance for other kinds of music besides basic psytrance, i've seen them be completely disrespectful to DJs not playing psytrance and they did it to me when i played a morning techno set last weekend and ended up driving everyone away. they think that if they don't like what's being played, they have the right to disrespect other people who are enjoying it and act up like a bunch of drunken teenagers.

I don't think drunken teenagers is fair to say.... They are just very passionate about their national music. It's on the radio in Israel. This is a very common thing that happens everywhere. Its all in how you perceive the reaction that they give. You can get defensive.... or give the people what they want.           http://soundcloud.com/djkiva

it's OK not to like someone's music, but to do everything short of cutting the power so you can hear what YOU like, even though there are people who are enjoying it, is NOT cool. I have watched them do it in the past to breaks, house, techno DJs, basically ganging up on them, going up to them and telling them to get off the decks, telling everyone how they needed to hear psytrance, and often getting their way... For many years I was always on their "good" side though I didn't think their actions were proper, but the minute I decided to play something other than psytrance for a change, I got the same treatment.

and no, of course I am not talking about ALL Israelis in general, just this particular group in Denver. I've seen in the past from other psytrance "lovers", drum and bass "lovers", hip-hop "lovers", this kind of behavior is intolerant and unacceptable.

Everyone misbehaves, and yes it's true Israelis aren't exactly known for their tact, but I think this post is going a bit off topic. I don't really want this to become a forum for bashing one group over another.

they can get over it and wait till the next DJ. they are no more entitled to hear anything than the next person. it is disrespectful to badger a DJ to play something YOU like, especially if other people are enjoying the music. ask once, if you have to - but that's it.

i'll shut up now.           ..it's just another party..
