I grew up in boston and have helped in promoting the rave scene back in the mid 1990's. There are a couple things you can do to try and get the word out more. But, you need to make sure your event is secure and not illegal / underground or the police will get the info and break up the party. This is because they created the Rave Task Force in the city police department and they have kids posing as ravers, but are actually undercover.

the most important thing is to get your crew together and find your other regular attendees for your events. Then, make up some type of small business card with your email address or an info line for people to call to find out about parties. Its best if you make a website because it draws more people.

Then, hit the streets, and get as many people as you can to do this with you. You mentioned about the college kids, I agree 100% and most of my friends promoted the colleges hard. But, YOU have to go to their campus and distribute your information hand-to-hand. I have always found this to be the best promotions in any city, but with psy-trance the events tend to be more invite-only or exclusive to friendly people, not just promoted to the masses.

Another thing to do when you're at the colleges, find the radio station and find the program manager or one of the dj's to do an event announcement throughout the days before your event. This really helps as most of the international people in Boston actually attend college.

Then, find the underground record stores. The first place I ever found a goa trance record was at Satellite Records on Massachusetts Avenue. I believe they are still there but I could be wrong.

Another killer underground spot, Newbury Comics on Newbury Street.

Send your street team after this down to Harvard Square, there are a lot of hippies and very fun people just hangin out in the square because it is a very hip and chill spot to be.

Also contact the local mass. and new york event website, Mission Control, http://www.miscon.net/

they have been hosting event information for promoters since 1993 I believe. I used these folks before the internet took off, they used to just hand out flyers at parties with their Pager phone number. When you called, they would list all the parties in both cities.

best of luck, the people are out there, you just need to find them and then find a venue that will actually let you play trance music.

Keep at it!!

LOL Ol thomas gooch from bean town for you ladies and gents.

I dont't really like the game. But Baseball has no time.
I was like totally born in The Beverly Hillbillies. I fucking LOVE LOVE LOVE the los angeles Dodgers, even though I am like a Mets fan, or sometin. I liked the Dodgers when they were at The Burger King. Cuz ya knowshk what happens when you're at Burger King? It's totally like, you are just totally in BK, and you can just totally have it your fucking way!!! I am glad I am chillin in the pitjont of dirty jerzz cuz its all, close...to the portawho?! But not too close for comfort. Grass is greener here. In my opinion.
Thanks for everything vortex!

If Somebody is interested here is a proof of Psytrance being popular in Israel and it is actually part of our culture here is a movie of Astral projection being interviewed in an Israeli talk show on TV similar to Conan O'Brien or Jay Leno keep watching at around 7:30 minutes they begin a party in the studio.

i love how the cops started bobbin up and down to these guys crusty, old-ass beats. you think astral projection would come up with some new beats and riffs after 15 years. it still sounds like the first album they released, sheesh!!!!

in regards to the video though, it definitely shows quite a commercial appeal in Israel versus us in the USA having to hide in the shadows of House music and Vocal-cheese-club music.           We are all family. We put the fun in disfunctional.

I think this show was aired like 8 years ago. The cops are not real its a costume to laugh about the cops that come to shut the parties.
But yeah it is just to show that the difference is that in Israel it is part of the culture deep deep inside that is why at the parties You would see Israelis bringing a lot of energy. It is in us for years we had the time to connect to the music for years. It is still very new in USA and the american people I still feel hold back they do not let go completely. I still love the Los Angeles scene thow it is beatiful.

That clip is ancient, but yeah I haven't heard anything new come from Astral Projection in a long time.
It's kind of nice that psytrance hasn't become too commercial here because it keeps it fresh and underground. Besides it's a good size because you bump into your friends at almost any festival you go to. If we got too commercial, we'd get too much negative attention and too many people showing up for the wrong reasons. I mean for how long have arsim been showing up at Israeli parties?

I'm not sure if I agree with the statement that Americans hold back at parties. Many of the craziest people (and craziest outfits---or lack of clothing) at parties are Americans. It's just that many Americans don't share the same enthusiasm for the fast beats of psytrance as other groups......for now. But hey don't forget that both hippies and electronic music were invented in the States. The pranksters and others were partying in the woods on acid 20 years before the first electronic tracks even hit the beaches of Goa. In fact it was American hippies who first exposed many Israelis to psychedelia and counter culture in the late 60s and early 70s when it became vogue to go volunteer on a kibbutz. And it was mostly American and European hippies who settled in Goa after trekking across the hippie trail back around the same time and created an outpost that stayed mostly off the radar until about 1989 the Goans decided to mix acid house with acid.

So yes, most Americans are not exposed to psytrance, but it has a lot of roots here.

I DO NOT WANT PSYTRANCE TO 'CATCH ON' IN AMERICA!

I LIKE PARTIES WITH 400 PEOPLE!

IF I WANTED 10,000 PEOPLE AT A PARTY I WOULD MOVE TO ISRAEL.

maybe it is worth thinking about what would be good to raise the consciousness in this country instead of what you want.

maybe if you sacrifice your first born to the psytrance god everyone will suddenly start to like it..

j/k

honestly i don't think the popularity has anything to do with consciousness, more with the style of music and its peculiarities..           ..it's just another party..

i'm sorry but i think that if all the kids became psytrancers, it wouldn't do much of anything to raise consciousness.

but i do think that it would damage the music and the community that i really love.

Wow, I love this conversation!

The psychedelic trance scene and everything included in it is the most beautiful, important thing in my life. AND I am a native Californian who likes it hard, fast and very very trippy. And I certainly don't think I hold back anything at parties.

IMO, the best parties have between 50-200 people, because after that the ratio of idiots to trancers goes up significantly, you're more likely to have big drama. I love Israelis, Brazilians, Indians, Russians, Greeks, Americans, and everyone else who shows up and dances their ass off all night with me. As long as there's less than 200 of them. As long as they pick up their trash.

I understand the annoyance of having to bring in burners, ravers, etc. to cover the cost of an event. We don't have a psytrance scene exactly in San Diego, so most of my local friends are burners, but their parties suck. And they get pissed at me when I go to them anyways and then complain about their terrible taste in music all night long. (My poor ears, spoiled by so many delicious beats!) It's a good thing LA and SF are close by.

PSYTRANCE CAN SAVE THE WORLD! I just have to figure out exactly how. Can anyone help?

As you may have noticed, I'm not all here myself... Check out Cheshire Moon Clothing for some psychedelic threads! http://www.myspace.com/cheshiremoonclothing

Not sure if psytrance is going to save the world, but the trancers themselves can. We know the secret to communication and how to melt 200 different minds down into one. But brother believe me, we all want to save the world. You should read my post about doing a peace festival in the Sinai http://forum.isratrance.com/psytrance-in-the-sinai/
It's just but one idea. But I hear you. Especially when you have friends strewn across the world who can never be friends with each other because of political realities it just kills you. Fuck the rules and let's bring 'em together!
