Israelis and Europeans are the most hardcore dancers. No doubt about that. Thats because:

1) Psytrance is way more developed in Europe.
2) Its almost their national music for Israelis.

But yes, in general Israelis are most hardcore and closes minded about psytrance. Same in India also. They tend to brute-force their way up there too.           Discover.Vote.Share() - http://www.beamto.us

Yes, which is exactly why we want more of them at parties!
The thing is in Israel you don't need to be online to hear about parties because there are flyers all over Tel-Aviv, and people tell you about the next party when you're still dancing. So in New York where Israelis run the parties they're able to mobilize their compatriots pretty easily.
I want to know how to do that here in Boston, where if there are any Israelis (or other hardcore groups) who are not on Isratrance but still into psytrance how is the best way to find them. With Brazilians (and Latin-Americans) it's easier because I hang out with more of them and they go out to clubs all the time. I think maybe Israeli psytrancers lift their noses more to clubs than other groups and might be a bit trickier to find. There are a lot of Russians here too, but I'm not as familiar with their culture and habits so I can't really make a comment on them.

Fuck it dude, throw a party. People will know.

Never ever in my life has it happened that I have stayed in a city and I didnt know about a psytrance party that happened here.

The psy-community is so small that everybody fucking knows everybody.           Discover.Vote.Share() - http://www.beamto.us

We threw one ( damn good one too ) and we'll keep doing it, but that's not the point. I lived in this town for 4 years before I even knew about the psy community here, and that's because I never had to hunt for a party before in my life because I always got the promotions, word of mouth. It's just we're a very straight-up psytrance crew and I want to make sure that we keep a majority hardcore group coming to the parties so that we don't have to compromise for burners or d&b people (or worse candy-ravers) in order to break even and keep the good acts coming in.
Boston is a town with enough cultural distractions and opportunities (and with 30-50 universities in the area there are so many people cooped up in campus life) to keep anyone busy and I'm constantly surprised how many people I meet who've never even heard of the clubs I frequent, or people I talk to who miss going to raves in Brazil and didn't know that we have them here too. Especially when it comes to psy a lot of people are too busy partying elsewhere and living life to look online to dig up our scene on the net. I think a lot of us here take that for granted now because we're all hardcore and go hunting for psy when we go elsewhere but we forget that not everyone has that initiative.

I grew up in boston and have helped in promoting the rave scene back in the mid 1990's. There are a couple things you can do to try and get the word out more. But, you need to make sure your event is secure and not illegal / underground or the police will get the info and break up the party. This is because they created the Rave Task Force in the city police department and they have kids posing as ravers, but are actually undercover.

the most important thing is to get your crew together and find your other regular attendees for your events. Then, make up some type of small business card with your email address or an info line for people to call to find out about parties. Its best if you make a website because it draws more people.

Then, hit the streets, and get as many people as you can to do this with you. You mentioned about the college kids, I agree 100% and most of my friends promoted the colleges hard. But, YOU have to go to their campus and distribute your information hand-to-hand. I have always found this to be the best promotions in any city, but with psy-trance the events tend to be more invite-only or exclusive to friendly people, not just promoted to the masses.

Another thing to do when you're at the colleges, find the radio station and find the program manager or one of the dj's to do an event announcement throughout the days before your event. This really helps as most of the international people in Boston actually attend college.

Then, find the underground record stores. The first place I ever found a goa trance record was at Satellite Records on Massachusetts Avenue. I believe they are still there but I could be wrong.

Another killer underground spot, Newbury Comics on Newbury Street.

Send your street team after this down to Harvard Square, there are a lot of hippies and very fun people just hangin out in the square because it is a very hip and chill spot to be.

Also contact the local mass. and new york event website, Mission Control, http://www.miscon.net/

they have been hosting event information for promoters since 1993 I believe. I used these folks before the internet took off, they used to just hand out flyers at parties with their Pager phone number. When you called, they would list all the parties in both cities.

best of luck, the people are out there, you just need to find them and then find a venue that will actually let you play trance music.

Keep at it!!           We are all family. We put the fun in disfunctional.

Thanx for that advice. The party we did was in Rhode Island so we did a lot of hand-to-hand promo at parties in CT, NH, elsewhere...
I'll have to check out those record stores. I was thinking of maybe putting up a Hebrew only sign in Rami's with our myspace link or something. Let me know if you think that's a good or bad idea.

nice one! I'll check the link in a few. Also, if you guys are planning anything for new years or christmas time, send me a message here or at my myspace page (info below in my signature).

I will be in the Boston area visiting family for the holidays, most likely until just after new years. I will be in an area that is within 45 minutes of providence and 30 minutes from boston.           We are all family. We put the fun in disfunctional.

When I used to work at the mall, I would just walk by those little kiosks and talk to all the Israelis who run them. i figured out that ALL Israelis like psytrance & psytrance parties unless they look all "rock n' roll." Back about 4 years ago there used to be a big crew of Israelis at psyforia all the time, and I used to bring my Israeli mall friends. They're usually just here for 6 months at a time or something to make some quick cash, hence it might be tough to count on them as regulars. But I always had so much fun and lots of weird adventures when I was hanging out with the Israelis!!

Satellite records is gone, sadly, along with all the DJ's who spin vinyl

Newbury comics is neat, but they've evolved into a fairly generic commercial music shop. still a great place to drop flyers though.

harvard square = where its at

miscon.net!!! oh, man, some of my very first awesome rave experiences were thanks to this site. However, it doesn't look like anyone uses this site anymore... There are a couple big raves coming up in the area, but no listings on the site. I think Mike may have lost his passion for promoting modern day "raves" which are usually just glorified sketchy club nights.

Personally, I've been dying for a hardcore psy community in boston for a long time now. Its just always been so small that to survive we've had to cross promote with the burners & candy ravers (sigh). I think targeting the international folks is a great idea; hopefully you can find some who actually live here and aren't just "passing through" like every other person our age in this god damn city.
