I'd say any music can be spiritual. It's again as usual a matter of taste and how you listen to the music.

But we have to divide Sprituality with Religion. A spiritual experience do not nessesary have anything to do with religion. How many of you have becomed religious and now believe in Jesus, Buddah, Allah, Ganesh ect ect because they listen to trance? I doubt very few if anyone have becomed religious by listening to trance but they might have experienced spirituality (which can be gategorised as joy) due to the music. There's a big difference here

That's what I was getting at, Kristian. It seems that a lot of the time the two get confused, hence the UV buddhas, shivas, vishnus, ganeshes and stars of David (why no UV star and crescent or crucifix or icthus? Just a thought!). I reckon the experiences I've had on the dancefloor are really spiritual, but they've got nothing to do with any religion or God. I think parties really bring out the best in human spirit, the shared experience, the giving etc.

If I want religion from my music I'll join a church and I'll sing thanks very much!           "One nation under a groove".

Trance takes you to higher psychic levels, if someone is already living with a free mind he'd enjoy the music much more than a normal person.

Thats the reason trance sounds so profound and spiritual, especially when a mind is chemically initiated.

Although I'd agree that all music can be spiritual, I'd also say that trance is called trance for a reason!
Its proven that listening to a constantly repetitive kick puts a person into a state of trance. This is known by most religions as well, for example in some modern churches there is very soft repeating music playing constantly, this puts you into the spiritual mood. Chanting is an even better example.

Even though I am willing to agree with you half/half Uncle Bob then it's again only Goa Gills interpretation and vision of how it all originated if you ask other "pioneer's" they might tell you different stories... Again it's all up to who you talk to And there's for sure not only one truth. Goa originate from early techno and house which were not at all seen as spiritual. See my point?

But I am aware of that a lot of the so-called Goa music was seen as spiritual and a music originated from Goa even though the majority of the artists that followed never went to Goa at all

I for sure never went to Goa but my music was categorised as Goa (I think it would have been more cool to be catergorise it "Copenhagen Trance" ...LOL)

I agree with everything you say for the most part, but the one I think I should say to explain how I see the scene:
How can you explain all of these people from completely different cultures, walks of life, social status, etc. experiencing the same common goal/vibe of peace, love and trance? When you go to a party in a country you've never been to before you meet people who smile and greet you as if they've known you for years. The best times I've ever had at a party were when I completely let go and opened up to the artist/music vibe, etc. "Trance" in general is a spiritual thing. The acient tribes used dance as a tribal ritual to tap into their inner "spritual" self. At least that's how I've viewed the my surroundings in this scene. Again, that's just how I see it.

People who love classica, hiphop and house music all say very similar things - that the music gives them a feeling of unity with themselves, others and the world (house music especially).

All we can really say is "this is what does it for me".

Saying "Trance music is superior" is evidence of a non-spiritual way of seeing things, in my opinion.

Also we mustn't confuse the mind-state of 'trance dancing' with spirituality. For sure, an increased spiritual awareness is one possible outcome of trancing, but for this to be the case the trance-state must be guided by someone experienced in... I don't know... shamanism, I suppose. And while DJs may be expert at inducing the trance state in dancers, let's be honest here - shamen they are NOT. Apart from the order in which DJs play tracks, the role of the shaman in directing the trance state is - in my opinion - taken over by a combination of the vocal samples in the music (which can take on a great significance when in a suggestive state) and the melodic content which, as any classical-music (or Tangerine Dream ) lover can tell you, can have great emotional impact.

And I, for one, don't really want to trance out listening to someone tell me "I'm deeply disturbed, I'm deeply unhappy"!

no, it has never been and will never be, it's simply NOISE arranged in a way to make us feel something, which might be interpreted wrong(aka godly)

Not the music that's spiritual then, it's the experience.           "One nation under a groove".

Myself, I have had what I would describe as spiritual experiences on the dancefloor without drugs. Maybe describing it as spiritual is misleading but I can tell you for nothing I've done 6+ hours on the dancefloor drug free many times and it's totally cathartic. Sometimes I'll do drugs, sometimes not, I still leave with similar feelings. I leave feeling sorted in the head and pretty damn happy with life.           "One nation under a groove".
