hello everyone...
a friend of mine and i are organizing a big 3-5 day (not sure yet) festival in israel. we'd also like to try and organize such a thing in the U.S.
i'd like to hear comments about what people think:
1. if anyone know's the legal problems with such an event it would really help.
2. where in the U.S would it be best to have this event?
3. how many people would show up if the event was advertized correctly nationwide?

any and all serious replies would really help. i am serious about this and have the financial and legal backing to go through with such an event... right now i am just trying to find out general background on the scene in the U.S and it's problems...

surrender and all the veterans of this forum .. your advice is called for ...

i personally dont know much about the legal issues, i'm sure they know a little more .. however, the festivals ive been to that havent had any problems from the cops are on private land, like gaian mind ... you can find out about them on this forum too, i m sure ..

as for where, there are a lot of people who'd come to some thing on the east coast in the summer especially if it were advertised right , because we dont have too many 3 day festivals with big names, but plenty of people (boston, ny, philly, miami, montreal even ) along the east coast who'd make a journey for a big event ..

the west coast is always a safe option it seems, though, but they're already much luckier than us - we want some of the fun too ..

just my v.t's ( two cents ) - i would hope something like this works out ...

...if i am coming to live to the USA - the best place for that(IMHO!) seems to be California, otherwise it is New York area, but it is too cold there. No other states can compare to CALIfornian full power - thats is my oppinion judjing from photos and ppl's reviews from there.

it is not cold in the northeast during summer. there are many gorgeous locations in New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, NEw Hampshire, and NEw Jersey.

I agree with arrya. a well put together festival with a solid and varied lineup would attract ppl from all the trance hubs on the east coast.

west coast would def also work. but i think an east coast festival could truly be special cause we dont get many things like that around here.           ein chadash tachat hashemesh. there is nothing new under the sun. --kohelet.

What's a _big_ festival to you?? How many people are you hoping to draw? That's the main question here...

a big festival would be a 3-5 day festival. have alot of big name artist's, that play differents kinds of trance...something like they'ed have in europe. 10,000 people.

it seems like the east coast gets NO festivals. if you want your fest to be a big hit, then head for the west coast. if you want it to be special and give a lot of people a chance to experiance something new then head for the east coast, new york maybe. im not sure if there are any festivals on this side of the USA, so it would be the first of its kind (as far as i know).

There were two nice parties last summer - Omnidance and Gaian mind.. But the parties, East coast or West, are rarely bigger than 500-700 people.. A thousand people would be a really good turnout.

So I would caution you against planning too big an event - you might lose a lot of money. A small to medium size event with 3 or 4 international acts and some local US acts (some excellent music coming out here lately) and DJs would probably be more realistic.

i dont see anything along the lines of 10000 people happening anytime soon within the realms of trance anywhere in the us.           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

I agree.

The biggest festival I've been to in North America was Fusion Festival 2001. And I think that was only 2000-3000 range and generally speaking party attendance has dropped since then it seems. So, it is very hard to say if a festival would get this many people on the west coast now.

You could probably do a festival on the west coast these days and pull in, maybe 1000-2000.

If you decided to do a festival, west coast style, Oregon might be a better option as you could pull from both cal and pacific northwest trance people and oregon is a bit more lax on the legal side of things (or so that's been my experience?)

East Coast I don't know as well but the 500-1000 range seems about right from what I've heard.

Either way, what passes for a festival here in the states is probably the equivalent to what europe might call a rather large party....something to consider when planning budget-wise.

just my 2cents.

Why the need for a big event? The seeds have to be planted for the plant to grow... omnidance or gaian mind already have a festival out east, as mentioned... they had some quality acts out last year, it probably won't change for this year... if attendance slowly goes up soon you'll have that 'big festival'. What would be foolish is to try and throw a big festival for the first time - I've seen this time and time again that you need a few years of doing a festival in this part of the world before attendance starts spiralling upward.

Good luck to all, anyhow... outdoor festivals are the best!

you have to understand that i just came from israel and this is just an idea i have...this is why i posted this, i don't know the trance and party scene.

do you guy's think it is possible to draw more people into our scene and lifestyle or is the american public not built for this?
if so how?

it is a very complex question. check out the thread called US trance scene in this section.

To answer you simply however, i would say yes. the US is certainly ready for this and you could easily draw 10000 ppl to a festival if along with a solid lineup of trance you also add in some electronically leaning jam bands like the disco biscuits and the new deal. maybe throw in some more well known psychedelic non trance acts for americans like the orb. maybe if you teamed up with one of the orgs that throws the massive summer jam band festivals here.

in case your not familiar. the ppl who go to these festivals lead extremely similar lifestyles to the trancers'.

Personally I would love a huge outdoor (mostly) trance festival and wish you the best of luck.
