How to make basslines is like religion. Everybody is thinking their favourite synth is the one and only. But all are leading to the same result

So, I belive in Sylenth           http://soundcloud.com/catweazle-psytrance-music

Im using TAL Elek7roII as the bass in my live happily, lots of options without really getting to exotic, but Ive also been pleased with lots of others, in particular Ive been going for Charlatan quite a bit, also a nice one. I try to change it up as often as I can, after using sampled 303 for years Anything with a sync option pretty much works.           .

If you get a chance to compare it to the Largo, please drop a word on the sound, as I am also interested in it.

Peace.

when i asked a guy who made patchs for both factory banks he told me they sound almost identical..i love largo but i m wondering if blofeld is not better though after liseting some patch on both, the hardware seems to have a bit more meat in the low mids ,a bit warmer sound and largo maybe better fx delay and reverb (but we dont care much about this right)

also largo have sub oscillators unlimited polyphonie, blofeld have ppg filter user wavetable.
with a bit of eq ,one or 2 db here and there no one could tell the difference between both i guess on the same patch ,for sound i would go with blofeld that it seems have a little bit more body dry but for workflow largo

I know Artha loves his blofeld and his sounds rock

I would want more knobs though personally if I was going to buy a hardware synth.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

then you should think to largo man if you find the hardware have not much knob for tweaking , if you like clean ,agressive, metallic,fm ..these waldorf synths deliver, great for everyhting from bass to percussion with always that caractere that i dont don t know how to describe, clean maybe its the right word dunno... even when abusing the distortion on the filters section, making acid crazy leads it sstill have a clean cractere to me, digital sound.

Cheers for the example. The Blofeld sounds less bright, with a phatter bottom end. I an only assume an EQ would make the difference indistinguishable, I can only speculate tho.
Beats the Virus saw for sure.

hey makus thanks man , if it s possible you try the saw on a init patch with no filter, just to check if the difference in sound come from there.
some synths are equed it could be this too. a slight bump in the low a cut in the mid and it s more warm , could be intresting if you nail exaclty the sound using the largo eq a little, it'sd included in largo cause maybe blofeld have a slight eqs on his output who know

the largo saw is closer to the one of a nord than one of a virus but i find the highs/uper mids beeing agressive on the ears,it s maybe too bright , the nord 2 is too but its more pleasant to me

OK, so i've downloaded trial of Largo and made several quick examples.

To my ear Blofeld beats Largo, even though Largo sounds pretty decent with alike color. It was really easy to start programming in Largo because it has the same features as Blofeld. However Blofeld offers more, like additional filter distortions and 1 more filter (PPG LP). Don't know if the wavetables are the same. Modulation options, arpegiator, LFOs and envelopes are the same. However some stuff like FM or multi Pulse patch sound pretty different.

I didn't test fx, because I think Blofeld isn't really good at that (not ugly, but not too good neither.)

In the files, first goes Blofeld, then same thing is played by Largo.

I've tweaked the same presets on both. Then I've recorded midi controllers with Blofeld knobs to Blofeld midi track and copied this midi event to Largo midi track. Thus, the controller automation is identical.

Mind the volume of the clips!

largo definelety have more that plugin sound... funny how it can hapen they are probably same code , both digital.. maybe higher sampling rate on blofed , it can influence the sound on some synths specially for fast modulation like fm.

largo sub oscillators could maybe make the plug sound a bit better and closer.
i use a lot largo these day and now thinking to get the blofed too, do you think tthere is no point of owning both when having the hardware?
fuck there was some killer deal, like the plugins for 10$ or something when buying blofeld i should have went this way

I have to go into modulating the oscillators in some way to get a better sounding saw. It is classic saw of the Virus that I find inferior to the Blofeld. Not the kinds of saw sounds I can get with ring mod, stacking saws and using the stompboxes in the effects. Although I do not know which one is the Moog Saw? What's the name of the Wavetable?
