Munchie, moreover what I meant with the glitches and stuff is that I ( and me not only one ) dislike that extra clean digital sound.. I much more into the dirty one, with a little grease on it - check 'em out - Chemical Bro's listen to the ugly kik ( so distorted and ugly... no trance artist would dare to use it ) but the wall of sound stays.. They make whole stadiums of 100000 ppl dance like maniaks... There is definitely something to learn from them in the sound department...

Go ahead and try to release something without good enough production. Even if it's the most emotional and beautiful piece of music. Label owners will not release something like this.

Yuli- again you leave me speechless

well, for my part, i think the music is somewhat better nowadays (if you sift through all the garbage ), but that's not the point, at the first year or so of my trancing, the scene was a lot more hush hush, and had some kind of "danger" to it, when you went to a party and saw some 50 people in it, you knew these 50 people are of an underground mind, and it made me feel special to be of this scene, but unfortunately each year, that specialness went down, last year i could still find some really underground and cool parties, but nowadays, very few producers (if any) can come up with a party that gives you the chills
because i go to a party and see instead of raging karahana, a house party in the wild. i miss this one word: KARAHANA!!!! people losing themselves on the dancefloor to the sounds of trance.
i don't get to see that too often these days, though i try to find a nice spot at every party for me to lose touch with the world and i go to a lot of parties
so munchie, i think bringing the old vibe back is impossible, except as a small party with only people you know, maybe that'll work.
anyhow, a changing vibe that let's me down on party account, doesn't let me down music wise, so i still love trance. and well, you always have yourself to dance with           Super-teen extraordinaire Freakazoid! Freakazoid!

MIKE A - Personally I have found the blend between an electronic kick (from an insert) split to an UREI 1176 Compresor (Anolog) when balanced back into a combined mix is an excellent kick drum..

So if you can get your hands on analog gear definitely use it.. use it like an effect - it helps transform the sound.. which is the point.. a dial can be ridden.. virtual or real .. but when do you ride it it is the brillance of the artist..
When to .. why? .. e.t.c

I have had practical demostrations with people who have shown me the difference between 24bit and 16bit definition (affecting +16Khz frequencies).. it made me realise alot about filters.overall sound quality as well as (mainly) placement in the stereo mix.. so important but with DJ's I don't wanna go there..

What blows my load is the attention to detail.. over time I appreciate the programming involved as with as the sounds... there has been cut and changes in tracksd lately that I have noticed are the same line of thinking but without the finesse.. and I do like full on .. but there is a gap that is being fondly missed..

The development of artists is progressing.. there has been a couple of artsists who have made my jaw drop with this combined skill in the past couple of months..
Artists are evolving .. keep your mind and your heart open

It is not all tech trance .. it is not just a style.. but a method that is developing fast than we can keep up with unlesss there is an open mind...

Analog equipment has it uses and at a final production/mix stage - yes it does take the edge off some harsh electronic gear .. BURT omigawd does some of the new gear sound good..

hi guys...
nice topic.

i thing its normal after all this years psy music to be more commercial.

that happend with all the styles of music.

but i think the real feeling of trance never gonna be commercial beacause you have to start searching in you thoughts and in your mind
to understand the feeling of trance culture.

p.s.from the out side you can see the diffrent from the inside you can feel it.

p.s.viva na oum.....

theres always gonna be idiots. But theres always gonna be cool people too!

And I think of the mountain climber's saying, "Dont look down, and dont look up!" Dont look to where we have been, thats the past and trying to reenact that is like reenacting the battle of Waterloo. Looking up to see how far there is left to go is just as bad.

Hi munchie,

It's an interesting topic...
At the risk of going amateur psychology on you, have you considered that over these 6-7 years also you have changed?

I know I have and it not satisfying, but its life. To me, it sounds like you were in love with that underground vibe (just like i was) and as a music genre gains in popularity, that vibe inevitably gets lost.
Having said that, implying that psytrance is 'popular' or 'commercial' is a joke at best (ask artists) and this scene is still as undergound as they come IMO.
The thing is that first revelations is first revelations. I love the music more than ever but i still can't get that tingling feeling i used to get when i go to parties anymore. That's not the fault of the parties or the music or the drugs or whatever - it is me having gotten used to what was once new and fresh.

I think there is more and better music out there today than ever, both from a production and composition standpoint...but theres more of a jungle and also more crap released...one has to search.

I guess my point is somewhat depressing to you because i wouldn't expect that the music will change so much as to bring back that excitement to you again...i don't know.. i try to see it as a relationship - yes the initial excitement of falling in love has gone away, but the true love only grows stronger

Boom!
