I havent listened to psytrance as long as you but it still took me quite some time to get to like the new sound... For two years I hated minimal but not anymore.
See it as this, whats the point of complaining? It wont change anything. So just go with the flow and try to learn the new stuff... there's so much out there.
I dont think you heard Astrix at a wedding... I would like to see that

This is kinda reminding me of the replies I got.
He never said he didn't like the music out there today, he stated he buys new records. He just misses that chaotic spirit the music used to have. It's not like he didn't adjust to today's music. It's not like he's living in the past.
There's something missing. That's it. Don't put words in Muchie's mouth.

Dear Munchie, i think that what u r missing the most is the passion of your youth, the naive and the innosence, but they r gone and u need 2 except it. the first sounds u experience r always carved inside as a sweet primordail thing, but the trick is 2 look at it in a nostaligic way and not 2 get stuck and look at the future as a dark cloud threatning all good.

I'm with you 100 % munchie... you are absolutely right... The music is fine... but i'm also tired of seeing that a lot of artist that once had a unik style, suddently are producing pro. house. Just an exsampel. It's like artist are thinking, why make something unik when i can use a formula that allready works... And i thing this is one of things that have had direct effect on the scene... And it is not that the music is bad it has just been comercialised and imho much of the music and not just full on, sound the same or a like and that bothers me. And i thing that trance has to some extend lost it's unikness... And i'm also afraid that if we arn't careful trance as we know will be swollowed up by house music... And i dont want that...

in contrary to you munchie, i'm actually quite happy we are through with the "good old psy" and i get much better vibes and feelings from nowday's music (except some classics that should NEVER be forgotten).

i agree with u Munchie and with u Kaz, i just decided that no more old feeling for a while now. realy, about two years i dont realy border between styles, just look for things that interesting and that all.
goa is no more.. but its happened a while ago..

I think it's much of the new trance that is random and the old was indeed chaotic (but not random).
Listen to alot of minimal (and new full on), lots of just random synth fart notes.

Toma & Chaos Theory> you guyz are totaly missing the point. This thread is not about "Melodic vs progressive" or "old vs new"...
I'm talking about the change of vibe. From underground to mainstream. You can see it at parties, you can see it in the endless number of new releases, or in the similarity to house music, or in all the new record labels which are poppng up lately ( no offence StarJelly, love you guyz ). This is not a question of weather or not the music has improved. The real Issue at hand is:
Can we afford to let psy turn into another popular Genre of house & techno, or can we keep it where it truely belongs, underground?

And then you cannot hold up evolution, it happened to any movement, no matter how underground it was in it's beginning. I remember Punk was in the beginning the most underground one could imagine and then suddenly it became fashionable, but that's how live is, it's constantly changing and evoluting. Maybe not always to our liking.

The music style changed. Psytrance today is a different style than it was before. People saying that it's better now are saying one style is better than another.
Those people therefor have closed minds to a different style.
Don't call it evolution - call it change. It's not our place to judge whether something is better than something else. None of us are qualified for this. So instead of saying "like what we like because it's better" in an elitist fassion, could you think of something more positive to say?
