You are in fact! And Trance Ninjas are another class of people to whom I wish to bring honor and respect!

Amanda, I'm really not trying to twist your words at all my appologies if it came off that way. From your last post when I read your quote...

"when I say that GOA play did exclude a large part of the community in this event. They did, and that is a fact. If you don't want to think of yourself like this then maybe for the next festival you can make an effort to reach out to us more and we can create something more along the lines of what you guys used to do at Taco Portal."

I don't think this is the case at all, we don't feel like we left anybody out of this event and we don't want anybody to feel like they were left out. That is so opposite of what this whole event was about for us and to hear that people are so sure that this was done to intentionally leave a certain group of people out is a bit bothersome.

Believe it or not, I missed you and Megan, and Christine, and Quasar, and Mubali, and on and on and on. You guys have been my friends for years, some of you my very good friends and it was a shame to put in these months of hard work for the biggest festival that California has ever seen and to not have some of our best friends there to see it based on the fact that we didn't book certain artists.

This idea to introduce new people to psytrance will undoubtably lead people to your parties and your style of music as well. So it's eventually going to be a win win for the MOE crew in the future too and I hope you all see that.

Oh yeah, didn't MOE who doesn't book light psytrance artist do a party with psybooty once ;o)

I too missed seeing the MOE crew at Symbiosis and desperately wished I could have, if only to create the opportunity to talk to them and allow them to get to know me and to know the positivity I have to share with them and with their goals.

"the biggest festival that California has ever seen"

So it was bigger than Fusion 01 or 02 which were epic!! (and at the same spot)

Guessing those guys lost there shirts too.

Maybe next time you can get Skazi cause everone loves him (even amanda and megan i think) and you can get sponser by Pepsi.

Wish i could have made it to Symbiosis but was at home with my 3 week old daughter Jasmyn who could not come due to over cautious mum.

Were are all the pics?

See you guys at the next family friendly camp out next summer.

Wow that suprises me to hear that the jamband hippies react that way to the FC's and Mubali ;o) I for one am not one of the ones that like that music better than the happy uplifting stuff and I'm definitely a jamband hippie as well as being a psytrance dj since '98. Blanket statements like that are hard to quantify I find. Like I said if you go over to the jamband boards right now and see the Symbiosis threads over there that was not the case for most. They actually thought are music was too dark and hard for them so I doubt that the trauma trance would have been more palatable for them.

Carl you were missed, sorry you couldn't make it and yes this event was bigger than both Fusion 1 and 2 in a big way. And you can ever forget us booking that dipshit Skazi, and Pepsi sucks ;o) No sponsership for us this is still a family style throwdown no matter how big it gets!

Please don't refer to Fractal Cowboys as 'Trauma Trance'. Their music is often much more positive and light-hearted than any of the trance you call 'psy' - a lot more playful and fun, to say the least.

The worst reaction I've gotten from jamband peeps was to stuff like X-Dream and other dark tech and dark prog stuff, and to very generic "psytrance" like most newer melodic Israeli acts. The best reaction so far has been to classic Infected Mushroom, Eat Static, and other unorthodox funky stuff - Onnomon, Loopus etc. and Tribal progressive with lots of drum sounds. Basically I think jam-banders don't like the constant droney beat, which is what characterizes most "regular" psytrance - be it morning full-on or a lot of darker psy - and the usual minor key in which psytrance is written.

I should mention that I live in Boulder, CO, the jamband headquarters (and Rodolfo, Teresita, Akayate and Tzol from Kan'nal have lived or stayed at my house at one point or another), and I play here a lot - so i am not talking out of my ass..

I wasn't calling the FC's trauma trance, just referring to the label that the MOE gives to the type of trance they like.

I was also not saying you were talking out of your ass dimitry, I was just saying blanket statements like that are hard to quantify. I was a jamband fan first, 50 Phish shows, 40 moe. shows countless festivals and I personally am not a big fan of the production of most of the darker trance. There really is no accounting for taste, we made our best educated guess as to the acts that would be most palatable for those who had never heard psytrance before. But I hear what you are saying and we will definitely take your opinion into account as it does sound like you know a bit what your talking about.

By the way if anyone is interested, g.o.a.Play is doing there first psychedelic jamband show with RAQ from Burlington, VT. at the Independent in SF with the live trance and breaks band BLVD on October 25th. No psytrance for this one but eventually we hope to once again combine the two genres into one event and introduce even more people to the music that we love.

Tix are available at www.goaplay.com for only $13

Give yourself permission to go out and play and check something new out you may never have heard before!

Oh, I fully give myself permission. And Paul, why don't you book Sound Tribe Sector 9 for a jamband show??? I don't like many jam bands, but I think they RULE!

well, I am not really talking about 'darker' trance, just something more twisted and imaginative - psy with more variety than the usual predictable 4/4 - break - 4/4 - build - 4/4.

and STS9 has been on and off lately... i saw them in Denver this winter and it was lame, then Red Rocks last month, and it was a bit better, though still not too impressive..           ..it's just another party..

Dimitry I hear what you are saying. The best response from the jamband community on the boards was definitely from Hallucinogen/Shpongle so that makes since. We'll definitely keep that in mind for next year and future events. By the way, how do you like Boulder? My girlfriend and I visited there and some of the mountain towns outside of Boulder and really liked it and are thinking about moving there. Is there enough of an audience out there to be able to make some cool parties happen?

Nick, STS9 is a bit out of my price range right now. I'm more focusing on lesser known bands and trying to build a bigger audience base for them as well as the electronic acts! Maybe when I gots more flow like 50cent I can afford those boys, but for now I got to keep it down in this range ;o) These RAQ guys are good though, more rock 'n' roll then STS9 but the lock into some very trancy jams that I like. I'll have some more samples up on my website soon so you can check them out.

Boulder is okay.. kinda boring these days - there isn't much to do at night anymore. I've been spending a lot of time in Denver.. that city has been rocking ever since the new mayor got elected who's a bar owner.

and yeah, there's an audience in Boulder - but not huge, and there's a serious shortage of venues in this town since the crackdown a couple of years back..

Dimitry, I'm going to put you in touch with some friends of mine in Denver who throw some seriously cool, close-knit full-moon parties in some of the most beautiful locations I've seen. They will let you play for them, I'm pretty sure, ESPECIALLY with my recommendation. Hit me up through myspace if you have it (http://www.myspace.com/nicksynergy) or http://www.overmindworks.com

just to be a stickler - "Trauma Trance" was a concept album. its not the term we give to all our music, i like to call it simply intensely psychedelic...
