What about if they contract lesser know names that would play for free....... Set up a festival and anounce here, that you are looking for DJ's......
A Free party can still use the licenses for alcohol and stuff.....           Visit me

I'm not sure of the point of doing such a thing when they could (and do) book a load of acts people actually want to see and then charge what isnt really an unfair ticket price for a weekend of decent acts...

BTW - I dont think I've ever come across a free party (apart from maybe community type festivals) selling alcohol legally...

really glad people started mentioning the variety of the music on offer - it's more than a trance festival. I love seeing lots of different 'sorts' of people get together, usually works out quite well I've found.

The last couple of years at the glade I didn't spend much time at the other stages. However, the fact they were there diversified the dancefloor and gave me a chance to hear other music on big systems. But the best thing of all it brought home to me just how much I like trance.           www.BarakaRecords.com/brij.htm

Last year I spent nearly all my time in the non-trance areas, and it was wicked. It reminded me as I'm sure has been said before of the Glastonbury of old.

Seems to me you get a wider diversity of people - due to the different music genres - at the Glade than you do by going to almost any other *country* in the world, to attend a psytrance festival! Have you noticed? It's the SAME PEOPLE wherever you go! Lovely people, yes, but (for good or ill) psy-trance is pretty homogenised in terms of the fans and the mindset.

Let's have a campaign to keep Posford (*sound of thin ice creaking beneath my feet*) OFF the main stage and out of the festival, 'till he writes some new fecking tunes. Who wants to hear that old, OLD shit - in a slightly different order again?

Richie Hawtin (not to mention Squarepusher)was a good deal more psychedelic than almost any of the psychedelic trance I saw last year, too - just cos there's no scifi samples doesn't mean it ain't trippy!

I think it would be better to organise a grass roots festival with loads of rookie DJs who think that buying the latest 3 releases on chaos unlimited constitutes a cd collection. It could be put on in an area that hasn't given official permission throught the council with no running water, proper lighting, security or proper monitored parking and then everyone can rape the landscape get totally out of control wasted and stand around trying to pull by saying "we are all spiritual beings inside physical bodies" while dressed as an american Indian.

That way we can save the dole money we get to subsidise our normal income for more worthy causes like paying off parking tickets because we thought the 2.10 for the meter in brighton centre was a ripoff.

I spent 4 days picking used tampons out of huge piles of sewage and putting putrid Thali refuse and nappies into a rubbish truck just to pay for my glade ticket the first year and I'd do it again no trouble if I had to.

Get in the glade festival and all its quirkinesses and confusions. You winjers are like the guy who told all his mates that he wouldn't sleep with the hottest girl in school because he thought she was a sell-out but then spent his whole life stalking her and sending her hate mail. You know that Guy? Yes cos its you! meanwhile you gladesters, your like the hottest girl in school. Get in.

Having worked, played and partied at the Glade
festival last year I think it was probably the
nicest and best of the UK festivals I did that
summer. Most of the main stream ones were just
cheesy commercial events (T-in-park, V etc), and
Glade just felt like Glastonbury stripped down without
the large "idiotic" element, and whilst I felt it could
of done with more of a covert psychedelic edge to
proceedings, I did enjoy myself thoroughly.
I had my grumbles, and like most of us, would of
done things differently if "I was in charge"

I look forward to seeing you all there again this year.

P.s. It's nice in this country to have a choice of
festivals that cater for psy-trance after many years
of drought.

Colin at the moment I'm doing a BA in event management and believe me they can get it cheaper, if they are not that greedy,

Etnarama - there is a whole world of difference between reading about organising festivals at college and actually doing it.

To assume from a position of supreme ignorance that The Glade people are motivated by greed does you no favours at all.

Ott you don't know me.............
You don't know my experience in the field..
But at least 3 bigger fests than Glade i have participated......... oh and i also organise events here in london.... not only music festivals but things like DVD recordings of people as Jimmy Carr, Harry Hill, i presume you know them no????
You don't even know my age........
the probs of forums.......
the break even can be lower, the problem with these types of festivals is that the management tend to work once a year and retire until the next one...
Maybe i am generalising but the point i wanna make is that it can be cheaper.........

And i agree with Oscar Wilde, i would just add that you are constantly learning and until the end of your life you will learn something new..........

That told ya!

I shall be at Glade, oh yes... can't see why people are whinging. At what point would the peeps organising NOT be being 'greedy, 'selling out', or whatever else they've been accused of?

What's wrong with someone putting it on and then chilling for the rest of the year by spending their (almost certainly quite meagre) stash? Why is it 'greedy' to make money? I take it you offer your skills to Jimmy Carr on a pro bono basis? What a nice man you are. Unlike those people who put on the best dance festival in the UK. Bastards.
