How about this...

ALL MUSIC IS COMMERCIAL!

Sure, there are people out there who write music and only perform/play it for themselves and their friends and family. I guess they're the exception, so I'll rephrase my statement. 99.999999999% of music is commercial music, and most of the aforementioned types have greater aspirations.

Does anyone play a live show and hope that nobody comes to hear it? Put out an album and hope that nobody buys it? Of course not. As soon an artist, performer, or band plays a show for money or makes a demo and sends it out to record labels, they're making commercial music. They might not necessarily be in it for the money, but they're putting their work out there in hopes that people will enjoy it, which can't happen unless people buy their concert tickets and CDs.

If one likes an artist or style of music, they should hope for their/its success. Think of it from the artist's perspective. If a band isn't selling tickets and CDs, guess what happens? Their label drops them, nobody will book them, they get discouraged, and they stop making music or change their style. When someone complains about their favorite band or genre getting too commercial or mainstream, they're more than likely just angry that their little secret is getting out and they can't act elite and look down on other people for not liking it. I've been there. I was a ska elitist. I used to complain about the music getting too popular and mainstream bands like Reel Big Fish and Save Ferris. As ska's popularity dwindled, there were less and less shows, and most of the good bands broke up. Ska is pretty much dead now, but Reel Big Fish and their ilk are still around, so which is the worse situation? A few bands in the mainstream will expose more people to the genre. Some of them will dig deeper, discover other artists, buy their music, go to their shows, and allow the underground to survive.

So your favorite underground artist is making some money. As long as they aren't watering down or changing their music for common tastes, GOOD FOR THEM! I think groups like Toxic and Sirius Isness are much more deserving of assloads of cash in the name of musical talent than Britney Spears or A Newfound Glory, and would be happy to see them get it.

Is there something wrong with an artist wanting to make some money off their art? I personally would love to get paid to sit in front of a computer and synthesizers writing music all day and get flown all over the world to do gigs. Does a desire for success make the music any less valid? Influential musicians from Bach to Astral Projection weren't just doing it for the sake of the art. They also wanted to put some food on their tables. Name one great musician who gives/gave away their art or services for free. I didn't think so.

[/quote]commercial full on is a result of people making music for money and not for the love of music anymore. they are making music that appeals to a large audience and not a special select few, like it used to be, so as to attract more people, so as to make more $$$. sad but true.

Most of the time people like something because it's good. If it's good than that means someone put thier creative ablility into it, especially if we are talking about Trance here. It's not Pop. None of the artist have a ton of people behind them, telling them what to create. If someone creates trance it comes from love for the music. Not for the money. Does Skazi have is own private Jet? Do GMS have five mansions around the world? I'm sure they would love too, and what better way to get it than doing what you love!

Wouldn't you like you get rich$$$$$ doing what you love to do? Or even put food on the table and clothes on your children doing what you love to do? I know I would.
Peace.
