this question stems from the topic:
http://forum.isratrance.com/viewtopic.php/topic/61466/forum/1 which i dont really like so much.. brews too much negativity.. but it also made me react and think:

why do some people assume that artists have to maintain whatever magic they had or have forever? like some kind of slaves to the listeners.
isnt it possible to think of it this way and say, thanks for 96'-98' you were great - you gave us auditory jewels and we are thankful. i like to think that painters didnt paint masterpieces all their lives (if they did at all) ... not all rock'n'roll bands had smash hits every track and every year... actually there are only a few that did - and even that's debateable.
cut some artists a break please... people change - their music changes with them. concepts change, technology changes.... times change...
another interesting fact is that you let someone who didnt hear an artist that youve been listening to for years on end and have discovered all their tricks and trademark sounds and they will love it..... so is it the artists? or is it you that is jaded? probably a combination of the two - much like everything in life.
think about it.

Good point Surrender.
Also we have to think about the fact that if an artist have been producing music for such a long time maybe his ideas and creativity have expired!How much can a human brain expand.
But we need ceratin topics to keep this forum alive ey..
But we better start thinking of the present artists and the future ones!

Good point here Surrender. I agree completely.           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."

Well true...
But the earlier topic just arises from a wee bit of frustration. But i think there is enough sense on this forum to understand that artists expand and grow all the time.
Also, I've realized that I am a very picky cutsomer when it come sto this music. I'd rather hear a few top notch albums than a 100 mediocre ones.
I also think, that slight feeling of frustration, comes from the fact that you could always count on a certain few artists to 'never' disappoint you. Now, that seems a bit too much because at the end of the day, he's making the music according to his whim not 'yours'. But having to break that sense of assurance that "oh, these guys will never fail me, their style is super" does seem hard.

But as i said, i do understand that we need to cut the artists some slack.

@Neville Bone

I dont think we have reached a rut in creativity in this genre. Infact i think we haved reached a point where, now we can see the gems more clearly.

*Karma Cola*, i think critique is very important (beleive me if u read some of my cd review comments you will see im not shy from my opinion) and for sure through the years- one realizes the forums are were people vent their frustrations in a healthy way... there is no thought here from my side to provoke anyone or preach.... just a thought and an angle i wanted to share.

@Neville Bone

I meant that with so many average albums and compilations comin out nowadays, its clearer to see the difference in qualityand creativity. It will take longer of course, but because there's so much competition, the guys who sound unique and Classy really have awesome talent.
And then theres the personal taste involved.

But i was suggesting that maybe there is much more to come from the 'creativity' well.

@Surrender

Oh, i completely understand what you were implying. I just put down what i felt. But yeah, critique is important but can also be damaging in an inappropriate way. So i think we should try harder to portray healthy crticism.

Well the artist can do whatever he/she/them want/s but imo the labels are responsible to filter out the crap and it's shameful to sell music with just the brand/name

imo

And the meaning of my topic wasn't negative. More like the opposite. Like no matter how much I dislike GMS for example I still think there's loads of talent there, I admit it. I can overcome my taste and see talent even thou I don't like it. How is that negative?

the more amazing thing for me is to see some one that "Love" a certain project and like 1 or 2 years later when that project change abit his style then the same person feel like they betrayed him or something... and he start talking shit about them cuz he doesnt like wot they are doing now....
attitude you said? well maybe respect as well.

Not ride the negativity ship but I think the same applies to DJs. I've seen humble DJs start out playing some amazing sets... and then after some time when people having been cheering them so much they get egos and change the style they play (usually to full on). For example, they start out as great progressive djs, creating incredible places to travel, then they become popular and start playing cheesy full on cos they like to see people's hands go up in the air and shout their name.

But I can't deglect to say that there are those who turn around again and take all this experience in, and put all the ego aside and become well rounded, humble DJs and to those I give my praise and respect.

rich,

i think that what you said is offtopic.
some Djs loves to play progressive and then full on... some Djs loves to play only progressive or full on.

my point is, you dont know all the time what goes inside a Dj's mind
but thats realy offtopic. i dont want to turn this topic to full vs prog.

bad dj or bad artists are those who play/make something they don't like. > if you like to do "commercial" music,this is what you should do!
if u like prog, do prog.
... you should whatever u like, this is what will feed your soul.
otherwise you are "commercial wannabe" and you will fall fast!

once you do ART for money, your art will look like shit as well as dj who play music he don't like, the crowd will hate his set!

it is easy to notice when artists do things they don't like to do.

NO SOUL.

I have no problem with artists that change. I have a problem with artists that change for the wrong reasons...
