I really like DJ sets, IMHO they are much more versatile then most lives.
A live is more as an Excuse for a producer who hasn't learned to mix.
Except several producers who realy have interesting live acts.
on that topic. I heard Guy Gerber last night at the fetish, he was acompanied by a bass player and Danny makov on precussions, and i was a killer. I've seen that most of the stuff was prerecorded on CD's but the addition of a live funky bass (Guy Gerber plays deep prog house) and the precussion just gave it so much more.

WANTED: a bass player to cooperate on DJ sets.           Kinetic Honda GmbH, Worldwide Supliers of Quality noise.

Borris you are only half correct...

Live acts do live not because they can't dj, but because usually that what the organizer wants.. pls little more respect will do huh?!

And with all du respect to Guy Gerber there are some trance outfits that do original and in quite a few ways more developed in their live presentation than him..

stick to the roots dude...           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

well boris u should know better i guess, and i might had taken that remark as an insalt (but i don't )

i never put my hand on a mixing console in my life and truly, i don't have any plans right now to learn mixing, does that sounds like an excuse?
i think that REAL live playing (regardless even of the music style what so ever) needs alot of technical, financial and mostly time consuming effort.
but i didn't open this thread to waight the differance between DJ an LIVE, it's a "LIVE" Vs REAL LIVE.
and i just wonder if people can tell the differance or even care about it.

P.s: playing parts over CD's resembales, in my eyes, Ofra Haza giving concerts in the 80' with a playback behind. i mean - what's the differance?

Yuli and Ozric, I didn't say that's the way with everyone. just with alot.

Yuli, your live act is better then your DJ set. especially if it's with Danny. (as is the case with 90% of trance producers, cause their DJing sucks, yuli, I'm not saying that your DJ set sucks.)

Ozric, I liked your live, BUT it was nowhere close to coco beat, mostly because 4 people on a stage need ALOT OF EQUIPMENT and rehersals (I don't know about rehersals, but u said it yourself to me about equipment) to reproduce the studio work on one man and a computer. and I'd rather hear a very good semi live then a medium sounding full live. yes, IMHO britney doing playback is more fun to watch then some medium rock band that plays fully live.           Kinetic Honda GmbH, Worldwide Supliers of Quality noise.

Kaz, I did not say I go to see live acts just because I want to hear Unrealesd tracks. I said the BEST thing about live acts is hearing unrleased tracks.

This my perosnal opinion, and this what I like about live acts.

yo Borris,

my dj'ing can be bad as hell, but hat has no connection to the things said - most of the time the reason there are 'Live' acts is because the organizers demand it. Most of trance acts I know prefer to dj and think it is a hassle to make faces and to pose to the crowd for 1.15 hrs.. much better to dj and that is also more interesting in many cases..

Zombie with all due respect to Guy, I have seen his live with Makov and Eyal on the bass... it is nice, but ( no i dont mean to brag here ) the show me & Danni made is more complicated - and much more live - all the hr+ he actually knows his actions and gets the info wired on the realtime... The reason I dont use a bass player in my live is because I believe it is not necessary for this kind of a gig, though maybe once for fun and for 1 track it can b done.           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

Baba Ganooshka

Can do anything from hard tekno to world music... FULLY live, no computer on stage / DAT machine or something like that... Check this out Ziv Matushka on the MC505 and Baba Ganoosh Daniel on everything else..           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

ye Zombie, that is the spirit live and let live...

This is still trance we all about and don't deal actually with deep house scene @ the Fetish...

& I believe that if someone in the trance scene would believe in the way of the 'live' and would allow a trance act to play every week in the same venue ( as it happens with Coco Beat btw ), really live it would happen as well. But it is much easier ofcourse to point the blaming finger @ the artists and show how nicey nice it is on the neighbours lawn, and how local trance artists are too lazy to move their ass so they put a tape and play their live from the dat..

a little hypocrite what do u say?           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman
