| ps there is more mp3 djs nowadays, then vinyl djs, and they all have VERY crappy high freqs and VERY empty low freqs |
|
What does it have to do with it? I'm talking about full quality cds, not ripped mp3s.

vinyl sounds warmer, no? |

If you say so. In my opinion that's pure noise.

So are mine, but I find it easier to do that with cd´s. It´s just a matter of taste.

I respect your opinion, but still I prefer vinyl to cds.
And you're right, mp3s doesn't have anything to do with it, it just makes me sad to see more mp3 djs then vinyl djs, thats all

The quality is crap, thats a fact. If u like it or not that r personal feeling.

Yes, but if you want to be a dj and not just some guy who plays music (who stands for 8 minutes and then does a 15 sec. mix), you'll have to use vinyl, because its very precise and dj friendly (when it comes to mix).
My mixes are almost always 3 min or more, and thats almost impossible with a cdj
|
|
Thanks god that it is impossible. If i make a track i want it to be played by its own to give back the feelings and the story. I hate if a dj is mixing longer than 15 sec.
And u r talking very respect less to a lot of the best djs that CAN mix fast, maybe u can't. Signature |

So what you're saying eyb is that you want your tracks to be played from begining to the end, whithout mixing it at all?
Well, thats also a matter of personal taste.
I like to mix two tracks in a way to create a third track out of it, but thats maybe the techno side of me talking right now.
I try to have a story in my dj set, and not that every single track has its own stroy.
But, peoples tastes and opinions are very different, you play cds and mix them in one way, I play vinyl and mix it the other way, and thats the best thing about this scene, everyone if free to do it the way they feel.
ps I'm aware that some music sounds like noise in a long mix, but I just dont play that kind of music
nhf
I dont want to turn this into a fight, its just that we have a different perspective on a way that djing should be done, adn thats good imo

EYB don't come to my sets, i rarely play more then 3 minutes of a track without mixing
a DJ set is the DJ's interpretation of the artists track. when i come to hear a DJ i don't come to hear the producers tracks fully, if I'd want to do that I'd go to that producers live, or buy his CD, i come to hear what the DJ thinks of the producers tracks.

Yes very true, it is just my taste that i like short mixing. And i would never go to dj and say: 'U r mix isn't good' coz other people maybe like it.
And yes it really depends on the music u r playing. The music i like, fast and twisted is not easy to mix and the longer u mix the worser it gets. But lot of other styles can be mixed longer then some seconds.
@Borris i hope ill hear u mixing some time

I disagree with you on this one hip. I mix with cdjs and it can take me about 2 minutes for a mix like you say 3 mins on vinyl and I find it very easy to mix with a cdj, but then again, this is my personal opinion.
It's not a matter of equipment, it's a matter of dj.
Whether it be vinyl or cdjs, these are merely the tool that does the same job more or less.
It's all a matter of who's doing the job...
Don't hope 2 much 4 something cause u may end up getting it... |

good point lux.
Its about the dj, not the equipment.
And its about the final outcome, if the mix is good, it doesnt matter if its coming from vinyl or cds.

This seems way off-track. Let me throw another thought into the mix here - vinyl isn't a very good performance medium. I agree that some songs do (subjectively) sound better at home on vinyl with the fatter bass and lesser influence of the highs (think: GMS vs Syncro, X-Dream, aforementioned Koxbox etc) however there isn't much debate that vinyl can be a really terrible medium to play out at a party. I treat my records very well and they are still known to skip if conditions aren't exactly right. Ironically the only time I ever had a CD skip while DJing was when I used an original (I always bring burned copies of the originals to a gig) as noted a while back in a copy protection rant I made regardless, point being that whatever benefit to sound one may think your ear is getting from the vinyl, it is a real pain in the ass and problematic to play a big gig with it. CDs are convenient, easier to carry, can be used in harsher conditions, are not nearly as subject to vibratory problems, etc - enough reasons for the genre to have made the shift over the last batch of years. Anyway, that's been my experience of it... I still like vinyl, and collect the old stuff, but for new releases CDs are superior. More music for your dollar, lower shipping costs, easier to backup, resell, and recompile.

Yes, you're right and your post answers the topic question why trance djs dont spin vinyl anymore.
But, you know how it is with us vinyl freaks, its an addiction stronger then heroin
I guess the answer for me is a laptop and Final Scratch, then I could have a good sound qualitiy while mixing with records.
