YO...
I was wondering how many Djs out there actually use Records when spinning at parties. I see people mostly either with laptops or spinning on cd's.

There are probably some, but not many. If you check some online psyshops and see what's avaiable on vinyl you'll see why ...

I'd play an old school set on vinyl when asked... but I have almost never been asked. It's somehow darwinian - the promoters are usually psytrance elitists of some sort, the type that crave new music for the sake of its freshness, and would never think to throw an old school set into one of their events. I had to go throw my own parties to get time to play it, or sneak it in at gigs where I was "supposed" to play new stuff. Of course I seldom get asked back after doing something like that. It's the usual story of the dancefloor disconnect - of people presuming to know what a crowd likes, when the crowd usually has more open-minded taste than the people choosing the music.
As for the lack of vinyl releases, well - this too, is darwinian in a way. Economically it is very dangerous, and the market has dwindled to the point where 1000 records cannot reliably sold. Anyone who tries loses money, and lose the ability (or drive) to try it again in the future. This is, of course, for psytrance and Goa... progressive still has an audience on wax big enough to support it. Oh well.

(mikeA let's try reeeeal hard to avoid turning this into a vinyl/CD debate )
I've seen/heard psytrance on vinyl usually at parties where the genres are mixed. The party started with dnb before going to psytrance and then ending in progressive. I think a good dj should have some vinyl in their collection for opportunities like this.
Koxbox on vinyl sounds so damn good

I know it´s not the same, but Final Scracht is a nice tool to mix music u don´t have on vinyl. It´s really the same feelling of mixing, but the best is mixing tracks u never thought u could play with vinyls.

Why? We're talking abotu vinyl, and fact is that vinyl sounds bad. Unless you consider crappy high freqs & all sort of clicks and crackles good.
I wouldn't play any vinyl as a dj, I need an expensive turntable, it's big and uncomfortable and above of all it doesn't sound as good as cd.

Yes, but if you want to be a dj and not just some guy who plays music (who stands for 8 minutes and then does a 15 sec. mix), you'll have to use vinyl, because its very precise and dj friendly (when it comes to mix).
My mixes are almost always 3 min or more, and thats almost impossible with a cdj
ps there is more mp3 djs nowadays, then vinyl djs, and they all have VERY crappy high freqs and VERY empty low freqs |
