Yes if he got payed much money u can expect good quality, no question. I forgot think in a commercial way, coz the parties where i go the djs normally play for free, coz they like to play.
So we must differ between commercial parties and just fine tribal sessions.            Signature

If your making a profit off playing the music then you ought to pay for the music you play. I bet the DJ would be pissed if the club just decided not to pay them so why be surprised when the label gets pissed about not getting its cut???

EYB, I've finally decided you're fucked up. Only my opinion, of course, but how many artists you going to ignore when they say that if you want high quality music it has to be a full-time job?

Maybe i expresso myself wrong, i don't say the artists shouldn't get paid, or should all get ripped of. But u must see the reality, people love mp3. So would u completly stop making music if u wouldn't get enough money for it?            Signature

Yes detox people love music and thats the reason why they are also loving mp3. They just search for the stuff they want to hear and bäng they got it as mp3. And i think a lot of people downloading mp3s, i don't know how much do.            Signature

I think the scene was a bit nicer when it was less about "milking the cow" and more about free parties and free music.

And if you are in the farming business you should make sure to use productive cows.
If you choose to use an indian cow for example who doesn't give more than a liter per day it doesn't matter how much you feed it.

But I do think that if you get paid for DJ'ing you should preferable send donations directly to the artists you play if you prefer to get downloads and can't find them for sale online.
Or buy CD's in the worst case.
But I think it's very bad to earn money on other peoples work without paying the originators.

I wouldn't stop making it - I can't. And anyway I don't get paid enough from it right now to make it a full-time job, whish is frustrating because I know my tracks would be better if I could spend more time on them.

But that's no reason for me to let people like you take advantage of it. If I had the choice, I'd make sure you never got to hear a single note of any music I made, because in my eyes you don't respect the needs of the artists at all.

Theft is wrong, and taking for free something that has not been given to you personally by someone who has the right to do so is theft. It might not be the reason why sales are so low (hi Spindrift! ) but that doesn't make it right, and it sure doesn't help the situation unless you then buy the track in a way that helps the artist and label (if there is one).           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

But there is no value for music, no love for artists, the love that makes us, as consumers to want to buy the Album, to keep for many years, cause it has it's value, even if we radio taped it or downlouded MP3, we want the wraping, the words, the picturs. To know that we have a real relation with the artist we love.
Insted of this there is cheapness of inferior, and meaningless products that changes in killar hurry.

Coolin I think u r talking to me, ok. I never heard music from u (maybe, but i can't remember at the moment). Why do i not respect the needs of the artists at all? And i am not a thief! Even if i would download music, what i don't do (!!), i wouldn't see me as thief. But this can everyone see´in another way.

If an artist puts a sample at the beginning of an album saying 'please don't fileshare this album', and you upload it to Soulseek or Kazaa, are you being a thief then? And if you download the album are you an accessory to the theft?

How is the copyright message on a released CD any different from this?

If the venue pay the fees to the royalty organisations and you only play music from labels who is signed up with the same organisations.

Not all trance labels is signed up, so you have to check with their license terms.
A lot of the labels actually use terms that in effect means that you have to contact them and get permission to play the music.

I recommend talking to a laywer if you want to have a DJ carrier in the trance scene and budget for a lot of correspondance with labels.
