On the other hand all the "crap artists" will die..
ofcourse the "good artists" will survive cause they have growed a big group of fans who actually buy their releases..           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

i hope this won't bring labels "locked" only with the big, famous, 'selling' artists, not giving the opportunity to any worthy newcomers...           in search for an answer...

Bholenat, who said anything about Promos? I belive in DJing bying their music. and I'm willing to be listed in an Exclusive label pool where I have to pay the price of the release, but because I'm a DJ i get the record 3-4 months before it's sold. this is a custom practice in the house market, white label promos are circulated (and reach shops as well, but in very small ammounts) several months before official release date. and no DJ without vinyls will be respected in the house scene, why not the same in trance??           Kinetic Honda GmbH, Worldwide Supliers of Quality noise.

It seems that Sony Corporation and Epic found their solution to RIPPING. Check one of these links :

Sounds ridiculous ...

The only solution I can think about is selling TRANCE as single discs, so if I like some track I will buy it only and not the whole album.           Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

Yes, and trance artists have small incomes, it hurts them pretty quickly.

Ok folkz,
I've read this thread for an hour and a half - I must say that was pretty interesting. Don't know how much we can 'drill' this subject more, but let me add my 2 pesoz:

-- I think, and please correct me, that those 'big 5' are setting the music industry to what it is. So unless those labels will not turn to mp3 buying technics, and start using the tools they have now, ppl will not really adjust to this new 'era' of buying single mp3z and compiling their own 'CD-off-the-net'.
Do you think that if smal labels will start doing this, the big ones will follow? that's a good question.
Do you think that this system could work in our small trance 'culture' comunity - if the whole world still buying CDz and ppl's minds are not yet 'brainwashed' by this new 'era'?

Facts are facts - and let's put all the cards on the table - labels can't seem to find the solution in aquiring the mp3 format to their profits. Which makes mp3 even more popular because it's for free.

As technology evolved, music industry moved forward - as if it was a natural thing to do: Old Vynils - Tapes - CDz (example). Why is there a problem moving to 'Internet Format'? That's probably because ppl in the music industry allways knew that there is some Case with all their cassettes and cds, and they take what they want with them somewhere - to play it whenver they like. It's something we are used to with music.
No body is really used to download mp3z for money or even compiling our own compilations from mp3z that a label has to offer.

I think labels should address the internet with much more open minded and profit wise way. Remember that on the internet, the 'distribution company' is the internet itself, all the costs are much much lower.
So the label can actually earn pretty much the same as from the CD sales today, when thinking about the price for one mp3 sold.
But then again, the label would think about providing more interesting music, and see how sales are going from which mp3 tracks. Alot of analyzing needs to be done of course, before the real money would arrive.

How to 'avoid' the 'once dowloaded' mp3 - it's spread with a huge trace - I guess u could sign up ppl for a year or half year for d/l 3-30 mp3z per month - when as higher as you sign - the prices of the mp3z u d/l will be lower. You can actually play alot here and there with the prices and sales and all that salesmen crap.

The new money eating aspects that would need to be taken of is - how to hold this kind of a website and how to promote it over the web and real world. Distribution companies wouldn't survive this step. Nor the CD printing industries.

But this is the future,
for now on - for the sales to go higher a bit,
I think the small labels like our trance labels should aquire the mp3 age - and think of somehow mixing it with the CD age - that is not easy, I"m sure there are university doctors of economics and bussiness who are trying to figure out the perfect way to do it.

Bottom line,
--- It's only FAIR that ppl will buy music that is really put alot effort in it.
--- Djz should still get promos - for money - but they will get the satisfaction of having it 2-3 months before it's officially released.
--- Labels should not and cannot fight mp3z - it's a war they cannot win and should think of how to be a 'friend' of this mp3 bully.
--- Any kinds of non-ripping cdz and all that crap shouldn't even be discussed here, because it's dealing with a very short period of time deal - and not about the huge deal that's really going on.

I thank you soooo much for reading this - please be kind and correct me where you think I was wrong.

Philip

Nice Phillip, I was thinking on the same, but the main problem with the mp3, that you can send it - once you paid and downloaded from the label's site - to your friends. that's the problem! and i think there's no solution because the hackers ll find the key to hack every encoding, more respect needed from the people! especially from our scene! i don't care about the house scene or britney's fans, there area lot of out there, but our scene is so small.
People have to understand that's it's not funny, only 1 or 2 cds per month and everything should be ok. it's not so much...           Procyon Records
