This issue is a major problem I agree but I wanted to talk about another aspect witch is not mentioned a lot in this shred >PROMO PROMO PROMO <, from my short experience in Israel the labels don’t give much attention to Promo issues , I mean you can forever try to fight and force people to buy cds in all surds of ways but I think the attention should be put in investing more energy and creativity in promo , exposing the music not only to the places that are already saling this music but to find batter and more sophisticated ways to promote and expose the music ,
How can it be that more and more people like trance more and more clubs having trance djs and still the sales are going done? It is true that there is a problem with downloading but we have to figure a way to overcome it and with the tools that we already have, until some genius will come up with a revolutionary solution and the tools are all in the promo !!! And it dose not necessary mean you have to put more money
Take shaffel for example they used the distribution labels promo but they were also covering up with Shaffel promoters and what do you think was the result ? , I remember the advertisement that was running on TV a couple of years ago with the Israelis pure artists that were crying and bagging ,because they don’t sale, artists are not baggers it was ridicules , and reality is realty! I like it very much that this issue is up on the air so that people can be aware and tell there opinion this is very important , but try to think
More productively,
The result of being more and more professional in promotion will also solve the issue of djs that should , no doubt , get copies ,and before they go on the shelf’s , I mean If I am helping promote this and this cd by playing it in a party should I also pay for it ? good luck to everybody and may the sales go up !!!!

ha, I'm sure somebody will find a way to copy those "data-play" things.

and besides, they said the quality is "similar" to CD.
I wonder how "similar" it is.

a way will be found eventually
but the goal is to minimize copying... and i belive that not anyone could do that with this data-play cd's.           REHAB is for quitters

hey friends
i am back from the boom and i am very suprised how manny people are intrested about this story.
and here are some statements.
1.we will print (when it works) from the next release (electric) over vortex in south-afrika
so for you guys or cds comes cheeper in your country.
2.how much i get from a cd?? (1000 units )
2.1 every artist get a advance over around 300 euro
so it will be 2400 euro
2.2mastering and cover has a price over 1000 euro
2,3the finish product has a price from 70 cent so these are 700 euro
2.4 the gema /accum takes from each cd around 1 euro these are 1000 euro
2.5.office , phone , fax , paper ...... around 500 euro
2.6 the advertising is neare by not to pay the mushroom takes for a full side
1500 euro !! so take a quaterside these are 500 euro
2.7 so together are this 6100 euro from the disrubution we get around 6500 euro
questions??
dont forget this is a compilation ,no artists will sign a album for 2400 euro
and the cd is in a juwelbox a diggi pack has a price from 50 cent xtra
3. i know the sales from astral and infected but this is the past !!
it looks like that everybody gets last x-mas a burner and be sure sales like this will be never happent again.
4.you want that the artist sell the music byself or on a download way.
forget it about at first they dont have the time to do it
and they loose money about the label pays the promotion and the hole story and not the artist.
and when i print 3000 cd i have to pay 3000 euro gema /accum from this the artist get around 2000 euro xtra .this money they will not get when they do it.
5.you like to pay your order on delivery??
good one but you are 1000 km from me away and is it sure that you pay my invoice.
we did it some times and than the cd is lost in the post ??
or hunab-kuyi in america they run away with around 50.000!! (no joke) euro
from money witch the owns distributors and recordlabels
this is trance buissness!!!
6. you want a free shirt or something else ??
from what we pay this
this moment we have a price over our homepage from around 8.90 euro &transfer.
you can make your order via email.we sent you our bankdetails and when the money is on our account you will get your order .when you past a limit you will get a shirt or sometimes you will get 2 cds for a price of one.and ?? it dont works about burning is free.
7. we have to do more promotion and storys like this ??
from what we pay this you know how much the price is to sent promos in the world ??
it is more than 400 euros what is left from the sales.
and than you sent it out to djs and next week you find it everywhere in the world
thank you !! how i can belive.
and tv/radio advertising for trance is only happent in israel the rest of the world give a shit for trancemusik.
8.we release every yeare around 4 compilation and maybe one artist album this is not much.
we do our best that the mastering is in high quality and that you have good music on it.
for sure nobody likes every track.but did you like everything what your friend or mother is cooking??
the most of time are these tracks from young and unknown artists and they need our and your support
from this they get money to be better and they can survive.
bands like molecular or sesto sento will be not on the market when labels like medium or neurobiotic not give than a helping hand.
when you say i dont buy it and i burn it about i dont like these or that tarck
you destroy on these way the future of music and young artists. thank you !!
9.when i read all your words i see that you like to have more for your money.
good music,t-shirts,free cds or a coke.
i am the last person in the world who say no to this when my sales are ok
and all what i want for this is
stop to burn when my sales are ok .medium will do the best to make your wishes truth
regards
bim (www.medium-records.de)

hey bim dear!

i got two ideas for you:

maybe you can make an anti-pirating logo (with an evil toaster on it) to be print on all cd's of your label and other labels.

you can ask from promoters that booking your artist (for instance) to putt a fire place in their partys where people and dj's can putt in the fire their burned cd's as an act of support to the anti poirating idea.

you can also make this two things together to a small/underground campaign that can be print on your label t-shirts and so.

hey this is a great idea mr uzi! i like it!
here in Greece (i don't know if it happens in other countries too) they write on the packets of cigarettes "Smoking causes serious damage to your health!"
i know that most people do smoke but i KNOW that this message does some good. it reminds people either not to start smoking or not to smoke too much.
i think it would be great to write something like "Illegal copying/burning causes serious damage to trance music!"... i don't think it will solve the problem but it will help a lot!
do you agree..?           in search for an answer...

Kosmos, ever bought a Medium release dude?

Bim prints on ALL his releases "Copying kills your music". Go and check for yourself.

Bim, I'm in total support of you here man. Besides one hell of a DJ, you've shown a lot of character here.

very good topic, some very good ideas. as a newcomer label i can tell you it's very hard. somebody said, that label has 24000 income from 1500 cds...hahaha, yeah, if they sell it...because there is the plus cost of distribution and the shops. so labels got only 1/3 or 1/4 of the price...now think...
what i think: i only buy my favourite cds, around 3 / month, it's not that much, but those are worth!           Procyon Records

YES!

dear gula... with all the respect (and i do have alot of it for ya), u r not doing any favors to the labels by djing the cd`s. dont forget that Bcoz of these cd releases you have a job as a dj. so y not giving something back to the artists and the labels?

just imagine how many djs we have around (israel and world). so just imagine how many cd`s i need to give away just Bcoz "they r helping me promoting my cd", in this way i`ll have to print 20,000 copies and i will sale only 1000. please

plur

i think a future concept of the internet music industry is to develop a pay per play system.........if they can develop a code that is self-destructing then they could allow people to dl music after paying say 10c a listen, u then dl a song that will play as many times as you payed for.
hackers will always find ways around this though (eventually) and then u have problems for dj's paying extra for commercial use etc
you'd also need to develop a cd that wasn't read-only and would know how many times it had been played.......

i think there are more factors involving flying rhino's bankrupcy than the advent of mp3's.
there are a lot of new smaller labels popping up and the amount of music being released has increased dramatically. The market has become more competitive and flying rhino didnt cut it anymore.......i think a lot of the bigger labels might go this way if they're not careful.

it's the essential problem with capitalism, survival depends on growth and when limited by finite resources you have to run out of fuel sometime, perhaps we'll consider another alternative when the earth has become a barren rock and we're using shredded banknotes as fertiliser and cattle feed.           shit man that stuff really got on top of you didn't it........you look about ready to explode...........you took too much man, too much, too much
