i make some decent money, and i live at home, dont have a car, and only have to pay for health insurance, so i buy about 10-15 cds a week.

the only time when i burn a cd is when its out of print and i have no other way of getting my hands on it.

but there are times when i burn a cd then find the copy on ebay, or email a company and they have a copy remaining, then i buy it from them.

i wish the seen wasn't in so much crisis. although, for companies, here are some solutions that may help you:

1. Set up a system with other online shops. This would be to stop all productions of cds, once all the copies are sold, you keep about 10 copies, when a copy is sold, then you produce a replacement copy.

2. I know that in the States, they have a new thing one cds that prevent the burning of cds, although it is not all too popular right now, may be in the future. You mark the cd with ink, and there for it is unburnable. (you might want to look for articles on cnn.com to get more info.)

3. MP3s, the MP3s that are out there now are almost impossible to stop. But new releases.., you can stop the downloads. Just by making an auto pop up program come up when putting the cd into a cdrom...., the auto pop up can...who know, freeze the computer, shut it down, or just have the music on the program, and any recordings from the program onto the computer, well just becomes static.

4. Has anyone ever thought of making the cds black bottoms (playstation like), and making a certain system that would play it, and some how push laws to make it so no cdburners for the public can burn them....not sure if that was written out all that well, mmm....oh well.

good luck everyone, promote the music, but don't burn copies, because that burns the business.

later!

no 4 is a good idea although temporary...
they could separate audio and data discs so that the audio wouldn't be burnable at cd-recorders... and by having the 'audio cd-writers' forbidden by law you could delay the inevitable cause i guess a program to convert the cd recorders would quickly appear...
they have to find a new mean of audio without letting the writer of this mean come to the market (and in low prices). this could take like forever....
but i still believe it's the only solution...
if dvd writers didn't exist we wouldn't be having this conversation for 10 pages
the problem IS low priced writers... (and peoples tendency to stealing...)

even if it will, everything is hackable..
even if the cd can't be read in computers, you can just play it in you disk-man and record it through your soundcard.           REHAB is for quitters

well, some problems are solved step-by-step and not with "the big great idea"...

until we find it, i think small things can make a big difference...

of course what i said there isn't a small thing just a try for "the idea"... (with no success of course...)           in search for an answer...

I think the price for online shopping isn't that expensive. Especially if you consider the amount of work it took to create an album, and the amount of pleasure you getting out of it.

At least I can see a lot of concern from most people on this forum. This topic seems to be getting a lot of attention. I hope people understand how important it is to support the artists.

I would like to say:

(0) I have never copied a cd because I'm rich, lazy, and I think that copying a CD is stealing and I'm religious and afraid from things like that.

(1) When people make a living from something, they will always think about money above all. If they are modest and humble (like many trance artists are - respect!) they won't think ONLY about money, but money will always be no'1 consideration. Thats the way it goes when your food and shelter are dependant on something. In Trance there used to lots ppl that their no'1 consideration was their passion. This is good. More artists that would make their living from something else (web master, pizza maker, bartender) is better. Off course that there won't be those huge studios with expansive equipment, but for me spirit is more important than technology.

(2) Economic sense may die, but the passion will never die. Since this music did not START because of ECONOMIC reasons, it will not END because of ECONOMIC reasons.

(3) Please again with small changes:
Since this music did not BORN because of MONEY it will never DIE because of MONEY.

(4) I love ISRATRANCE, and maybe I'm paranoid or something, but lots of us using it to promote OUR BUSINESS, and make more MONEY.

(5) I know that lots not like me but I put into trance over the last 3 years 2000+ EUR
(CD's parties festivals) and did not make from it even 1 penny, so I honest with miself.
In last 3 years trance moved from cheap to
expansive and passion in parties went the
other way. The technology of CD's improved.

(6) It is understandable that profesionals that for years traveled all over the world and made GOOD MONEY from trance open threads like that (respect!). I mean all the world is in a fucking economic crisis. Stock markets are crashing, companies are closing, ppl lose their jobs. As much as some think this scene is isolated from the world, it is not. It is sad that some feel it only when it touch their pockets.

(7) For years, in many places on the globe, I danced in parties and festivals few kilometers from places where ppl were hungry or killed in war. I have to be fair and say that these parties initiated an important personal change in miself, I'm sure you know what I mean. I used to say - forget about politics, let the music play. If I want to be fair, I could say now: Forget about money, let the (COPIED) music play.
