The world we live in pretty much sucks. But it doesnt have to.

it would be fun to make a thread about how trance could possibly reduce the suckiness of the world.

Here is my input.
a. Organize a party and donate all of the profits to a local charity of your choice. Gaian-mind crew in philadelphia recently did this in order to help a girl with a terminal illness.

b. ?????

If the trance community wants a reason to survive it should take upon itself a duty to reduce suffering in the world around it.
perhaps we can even get money from the goverment to throw trance parties designed to heal mental illness ( a little dream of mine).

No, she likes Provolone.           The quest is to be liberated from the negative, which is really our own will to nothingness…To say yes to one instant is to say yes to all of existence.

Trance can't do anything other than boom tss boom tss boom.
Some of the people involved with psytrance can do something, and are actually doing something, for example (one example of many many) like they did the Tsunami Benefit CD (triple CD):

http://forum.isratrance.com/organic-records-tsunami-benefit-cd/

However the concept of "reducing the suffering in the world" is very vague, because some people will argue we should stop eating meat, or adopt this or that religion, or something like that, and also the same people who do "something right" also do "something wrong", sometimes even without knowing it. Maybe some of these mental illness guys you want to "heal" are happy in their condition, who knows?

I think the best thing we can do is to demand quality in the music we listen to.

I am referring to the greed that has pummeled a great proportion of the world population. Is this a music scene? Is this a drug scene? Is this some kind of greater movement? Is the word trance worth any thing? Maybe I am not so eloquent with words as people before me and I dont really have the ideas that will turn everything around, but I do recognize that there is something rotten inside all of us and there is also something beautiful. When I began to go to trance parties i saw that beauty manifested in myself in the people around me, in the music, in the culture as a whole. lately, i cant really see that as much but perhaps it is becauase the trance needs to go out our mouths and hands instead of into our ears. Lets apply those peak experiences to our given reality.           ein chadash tachat hashemesh. there is nothing new under the sun. --kohelet.

There is suffering
There is a cause of suffering
There is cessation of suffering
There is a path to cessation of suffering

First of all i don't accept ur basic premise that the world sucks. It's nowhere near perfect, but it doesn't suck...

I also believe music does that anyway, i mean, why does one listen to music? To feel better or to be entertained, and being entertained is a positive experience too... And I don't believe you need to expect more from trance (or any other kind of music) then that.

There are a lot of perfectly fine organisations of people who already handle saving the world, if you want to help, help those organisations. You can donate your profits (although the profits from psytrance parties are often quite meager to begin with) to such organisations, but in that case it's still not trance that saves the world, in that case it's people who are involved in trance music in some way that help save the world.

it may not be the best we can do, but it should certainly be the least that we do.           ~what lies before us and what lies beyond us is tiny as compared to what lies within us~
