clown, please try to understand - nobody here try to say its better to use bpm counter to find a beatmatch, everyone who want to call himself dj have to learn first to beatmatch fast without any bpm counter, its first and most importent rule on the way to be dj.
but right now, when i realy beatmatch in few seconds any song, been it breakbeat, 4/4 or 2step, when i cue my trax not from first kick but from first hi hat, i see no problem get some help from bpm counter if i get to play with cdj 1000 for example, i just see that my curent track on 131 bpm and that a new one on 134 so i pitch it down till the cdj show me 131 and then use my ears to beatmatch it tottaly, u can never just trust bpm counter but for first big pitch move its nice thing i think, its not a must for sure..
my technics dont show me a bpm:(((((
next after beatmatching is a eqing, which is no machine can do "right" just becoze all this eqing thing is pure human feeling, so i guess your paranoya about pcs parties is a bit overreacted.
cheers and good luck with your djing!

turn them off if you dont like them, i think its a usefull tool to save some time, ofcourse they are not 100% accurate but they still saves you some time..

Ahhh, come on you wimps!
Unless you haven´t understood it yet, BPM counters are all about rock n roll, when you stand behind the decks off your face with the Jack Daniels and the all the babes, THEN - you use the BPM counter!

bpm counters are a useful tool, i can easily beatmatch without them, but with them you can beatmatch with high accuracy without even listening to the track, providing the range is between 138 and 145.0.7 pitch equals 1 bpm, using this formula u can beatchmatch before you even cue the track, all you need to do after this is work out which direction to jog.to say bpm counters are lame is silly, why make a job hard when it can be easier?? sure, if u rely on them you are a fool..but thats another story altogether

I dont give a flying fuck about what well know DJ uses it... it was not my goal to point fingers at anyone..

however, there are artists that do 100% playback LIVE sets... Anything is possible...           "VA - REWIRED" OUT NOW !! (techtrance invasion) ---> http://forum.isratrance.com/viewtopic.php/topic/86303/forum/9

if Beat-matching is the basic skill of a dj, then i'm really very very sorry to say that i do NOT accept.....

djing should come from the heart....f*** whether there is a bpm counter or not....if there is, use it, else ignore it.....and no, i'm NOT a dj...but this is what i feel about being a dj....

cmon, what about the days when there was no proper mixer...all the "good" djs probably started cribbing saying "You should learn to mix without a mixer also....just in case!"

Emergency always happens....the dj should take it cool...

imho

i just consider BPM counters kinda like burning mp3's and playing them at parties.. getting paid for your gigs mixing mp3's, using the BPM counter..

It just makes no sense to me..

and im not moaning, im speaking my mind.. much like you.. only in a more constructive way..           "VA - REWIRED" OUT NOW !! (techtrance invasion) ---> http://forum.isratrance.com/viewtopic.php/topic/86303/forum/9

Hey Clown! You act like a clown! This, what you wrote, about bpm counters and mp3, is definatly on my top 5 list of stupid remarks ever read on isratrance. There is always something to wine about isnt? I remember the vinyl vs cd story, or the dat vs vinyl + many more... Its the music that matters, not the machines!

maybe that's why my name is clown??? because i push examples to there extent to prouve points...

and your right, when you purchase a CD, its the music that matters.. but when your making music, you use machines.. if those machines are doing all the work for you, are you really working??? if your not working, what are your doing at your post?? sleeping? if you want to sleep, go to bed, not to work..

One day there will be no need for Dj's any more.. computers will load up songs and automatically beatmatch them, knowing the right time to start the mix.. you will be able to control the world from you sofa, with your bag of chips.. sounds like fun no??? but now, what does this have to do with BPM counters??

Think about it..

I guess there are some artists that are PRO hardware, and others that use only computers.. its the same comparison..           "VA - REWIRED" OUT NOW !! (techtrance invasion) ---> http://forum.isratrance.com/viewtopic.php/topic/86303/forum/9

what do u mean there will be no need for dj's? maybe when we have conscious robots that have their own personality will we not need dj's. how can a computer have a style and personality? and when are we talking here, 2567?

man, i dont think u need worry yourself with robot dj's just yet, how about a more present issue like the Sudan crisis to channel your thoughts into?

well, i think clown is exaggerating a bit, but he raises a valid point. people seem to care less and less about personality in mixing these days, and generic mixes abound. i think there's so much more to DJing than getting two tracks close to the same BPM, then making a quick transition. nearly every psy mix i download is just a compilation of 12 similar "killars" mixed in a generic way.

i think part of the problem is that the bar is so low for psy DJs, as the music used to be mixed in even less creative ways (ie "soft" mix intro & outro). that makes it very annoying for people like me who come from other styles that are mixed more creatively, as generic psy DJs bring down the vibe at most parties IMO.

i have always felt that you should NOT be playing for money if you can't beatmatch, EQ, segue, and cut, all with consistency.

I think people who need to prove that they're mixing by showing everyone they don't have a visible BPM counter on their mixer, are insecure about their ability in some way......

I learned on an old Gemini mixer and the most basic American DJ CD players....Not one had a BPM counter, but do I use BPM counters on a mixer while I'm playing at a party as a quick reference to what I am throwing on next? Not always, but yes....Why waste time trying to prove to everyone you can beat match without a counter, when you could be spending that time doing your job, mixing?

What makes a DJ, in my opinion, is his ability to take two different tracks and turn them into one.....So, you can figure out the BPM without beat counters? Great, but honestly that's not all of it........I don't completely trust counters anyway

Peace

Music today so vary and complex that it is impossible to work without counter ...... just think who knows better what Dj need you or Gemini , Pioneer , Denon ................ ?

i agree with uncle that it is self unconfidence while you play on mixer without counter to show off .......

but every one has his freaky ideas in the head ....
