there is a big difference from drug to drug,
and big difference from mind to mind...
some people have it natural in their heads, and some other need to find it from an outer factor and add it inside...
if you smoke an albanian green stuff and try to make music, surely you are gonna fail...
if you smoke a good green stuff from kalamata greece and try to make music surely you would have more better quality results...
if you are used to use substances in your life then you need a substance to help you make good music..
if you dont take any of them and used to live clean, then you dont need any farty stuff to get you high and make good music...

but the psychedelic experience is needed I though...           ~~~~~~~namaskar~~~~~~~~~
After the End,a new Begining startS..

What do you think about artists doing drugs while they make their music?
Do you think the music should be done naturally and without and chemicals or herbs?
Do you think its unfair that the artists who do drugs have the etvantage of achiving better music then the artist who choose not to take drugs?

I myself belive that its a bit unfair for the clean artist, but as long as I get good music I dont really care!

If there were a competition in the psytrance industry (wich I belive there isnt) you could compair this to taking drugs at sports events, but as I said, the industry is steal strugeling and there is no place for competition...

what makes you think that taking drugs will automatically mean that it's easier to make music? A creative person is creative without drugs too, and people who arent creative wont do better when they are on drugs (ofcourse, everybody thinks he is a creative genius on drugs, but if u actually write down or develop some of those ideas, and come back to them when ur sober, u'll be laughing ur ass off)... Drugs only slow you down...

i do believ that having taken drugs gives you a little edge because you experienced a lot of things that are handy in the creative process... But it's the same thing with dreams.. People who remember they're dreams have an edge over the others because of the weirdness dreams produce... But i am sure that taking drugs WHILE making music is not good for the track.

Just smoke parvati valley charus/Malana cream : best thing to make musik on : it helps you consentrate hardeer : why do you think all the sadhu's smoke : so they can concentrate harder : but there are always exceptions : not all sadhu's need to smoke to get into solid concentratin/medetative modez : cause i guess with time and experience : a person/artist does not need any more " help" of any kind of drugs

do you think that in order to create truely psychedelic music you have to at least try psychedelic drugs (not while producing of course)?

Definitely not. I have heard wonderful psytrance from one artist (that I can think of...won't say the name for privacy sake) who I got to know a bit, and found out most of the music had been written years before ever taking any sort of psychedelic drug. He released an album as well as a couple compilation tracks during this time. All were highest quality psychedelic trance.

Eventually, the guy did try acid once or twice, but that was years after he had developed a very psychedelic musical style.

I think that the mindset required to conceive and use the elements and layerings in music that we refer to as "psychedelic" can be inherent in one's musical vision rather than something acquired through a psychedelic drug.

hi . i just have to give my point of view in this matter.
it seems very strange to me why most people here have such a simplistic view on the relation of drugs and trance music, that goes for the antidrugs and for the pro-consumers. Psychedelic substances and music, specially trance music have a very long history, older than most civilizations. these substances have been used by catalyst of the trance - dance experience, which is also related to a connection with the divinity. So trance music is not to be considered merely as just "dope influenced dance music", this is a completely simplistic and stupid idea. Psychoactive drugs have definetely taken a fundamental role in the creation of visionary art, shamanism and trance music. Psychedelic drugs are not to be considered merely recreation for our brains, but as a catalyst for a trascendental experience. Of course everybody can choose what s best for them. Artists who use drugs are just as respectable as the one who dont. What matters is the music and its capability to take u to an altered state of consciousness or "trance". drugs or no drugs. and of course there are other ways to do it. this is just one option.           www.soundcloud.com/elektroakustica/sets/downtempo/

WORD!!
Just to add a bit. IMO a drug is far too general word to use in here and in this context. Psychedelic substances shouldnt be categorized in the same group with more recreational party drugs.

I don't think I could write any good music on drugs (though some would say I can't write any good music sober either). I remember a few years ago I tried an experiement where I bought a box of crayons and planned to make a piece of psychedelic artwork on shrooms. I spent much of the evening staring at the blank piece of paper and when I woke up the next morning the paper was still lying there, still blank. Now imagine me, in that state of mind, trying to navigate the alien architecture of Logic Pro. I probably couldn't even manage to lay down a 4/4 kick.
