After speaking to some of my Arab friends I have come to learn that the Muslim religion basically forbids any words/lyrics in music due to the fact that any lyrics that contain the possibility of admiring any object/human other than Muhamad is forbidden. Therefore most probably you will find Electronic scenes close to Christians areas (Lebanon and so on) and of course populations where there are educated and upper class people. Nevertheless it is important to realize that religion and the country laws are bound to each other. Unlike western societies where we can all (most of the times) choose if we want to be religious or not, in the middle east even educated population are still Muslim. The obvious separation between a person religion and the country and the ability to choose is not such an open choice (I'm not even sure they have a word for non-religious, in Hebrew it's Hiloni). Therefore if you do not believe in the religion it means you are a traitor to the country.

If you want to crisis a person you should at least give a proper and justified argument, and not just ridicule with generalizations.

I saw text books from Arabic from the Qalansua village in Israel, in Muslim religious class that proves my sayings.

Nevertheless I just mentioned what I heard from people I know, who are Muslims in Israel. there might be different approaches in different places.

sorry your rite, din mean to ridicule. Im not a muslim, but growing up in the middle east i never heard ov that. The local FM radio stations plays pop n r&b n what not, the arabic music you hear all the time has words singing about love n romance n all things material. So wen somebody says its forbidden to have words in songs it just really surprises me. Even if islamic texts say that, it would be wrong to assume that islamic countrys actually ban words in music. The Bible says not to consume pork (i know that surprises alot ov people) but pork isnt banned and you still find alot of christians eating pork without knowing its actually forbidden. Jains dont walk around naked. I hope thats justification enough for you

The better part of the Arab world is profoundly against anything that is deviant from the ethnic culture or the local culture for that matter. Not only does psytrance sound menacing to anyone who has listened to traditional Arab music for their entire life, it also minimizes the possibility of a party happening in any place where fundamentalist clans control society. I think it would look bizarre to any adult Arab when he or she looks at tranced out people kicking dust in the desert for many hours. Let's not talk about substances because we should have a vague understanding about how stigmatized they are. Not that i am relating psytrance to drugs, but you catch my drift. Recently a drum and bass Dj was arrested in Dubai with traces of cannabis on his person and he nearly escaped a jail sentance.

I think it's highly possible for some individuals to enjoy psytrance at the privacy of their homes, but there is no way in the world that there could be a scene anywhere from Saudi Arabia to Jordan to Syria to Yemen.
Iran is a different story because Iranians are not Arabs and they are pretty cool people who have allowed Islamists to gain power.

Some Muslims believe that only vocal music is permissible (halal) and that instruments are forbidden (haram). Hence there is a strong tradition of a cappella devotional singing.

Other Muslims will accept drums, but no other instruments.

Yet other Muslims believe that any instrument is lawful as long as it is used for the permissible kinds of music. Hence there is a long tradition of instrumental accompaniment to devotional songs. A wide variety of instruments may be used, depending on local musical traditions.

Most Muslim scholars traditionally have held that music is forbidden both by the Qur'an and by the hadith, as well as by tradition and believe that Muhammad stated that musical instruments are sinful when he said: "There will be among my Ummah people who will regard as permissible adultery, silk, alcohol and musical instruments,"[1]; many of the greatest Islamic scholars of the past, including the four imams, agreed upon this.[2]

However, many modern Muslim scholars allow music and singing under certain conditions, mainly if they do not encourage committing sinful acts

well there are a lot of psy lovers in ME, but most of them are from the subcontinent, i have come across very few local people really involved with psytrance.

yes the scene in Leb in very active, so is the scene in UAE. but smaller scenes do keep happening in kuwait, qatar, bahrain, oman. i have been to a few parties in these countries but if ur frm the good old goa trance days then u can clearly see the lack focus from the music and vibe. these are some commercial gigs i just spoke about.

but been to a few private gatherings in kuwait, qatar, bahrain, oman and uae and its always been a great experience. +ve people and amazing location to kill it.

have also hear abt a small fest that happend in Saudi Arabia, i think it was in April.. dont have much info on it thou...

and iran is another full on place, places like Kish and North Iran are know of parties, but there is an active grp of ppl in tehran spreading some good vibes. there also a small party happening this month or the next just outside tehran..
