Sounds like a classic case of "enlightenment through disillusionment" to me, or at least it was in my case in regards to the "psychedelic trance scene".

I designed the "Natural Born Chillers" compilation artwork for them. I told them I need X amount to do it. They said they would only pay a lesser Y amount because it was going to do more to help out my identity than theirs. But as anyone can see, they took my idea ran with it for TWO more releases which I did not create. Shulman - Random Thoughts (which I was asked to design as well but pulled out do to being ever low-balled) and Natural Born Chillers 2 (which I pulled out again due to their low-balling tactics).
They used me, plain and simple. Then they had the nerve to end up *selling* posters that I created along with an extensive CD package with sleeve and was told the posters would serve *only* as *free* promotion. They got a LOT more from me than I ever felt was worth the measly sum they conned me into taking. I did this because I once too fell prey to their kindly deception. Part of what I did help kick start their image into higher gear. Know this.

DJ Zen at Altar Records has been OK for me in that he commissioned me (paid) *up front* to write tracks that he didn't know whether would be what he wanted / needed or not. Hence, I wrote Seahorse Dreams (Water comp) and Astral Map Error (Ether comp) solely for him. I have seen download sales from him for Seahorse Dreams and expect to hear something soon enough about another round of sales for both releases.
I can say that, yes, he does ask artists to occasionally change the music if he feels necessary. He wanted me to change the kickdrum in Astral Map Error but I sensed he would have taken it as it was. I think his criticism made the track better in the end so I don't have any hard feelings about it.

All joke aside, I think Tyler here is upset with these commercial/individual entities which is - while understandable - pointless cuz they r insignificant to his music and ability to produce as an artist (note: artist > wonna-be artist). I reckon u've grown too big for amateur records companies and haven't even realized it. U'r still emotionally attached to them but u'll grow out of it and continue to produce independently. Hopefully

I convinced a mod to remove a whole nasty thread once, so I hope Shahar will be convinced to remove all trace of my antics from his site. ONCE he does, he can rest assured that I will not return under ANY guise. I look forward to him exercising his power to REMOVE all my locked threads. Not merely SHOWCASE them so it can still bring in the numbers for advertisers. We ALL know that people, in some form or fashion, love a little DRAMA. That drama generates the numbers which feeds advertisers which feeds the MACHINE. |

Nope, not too big, just have grown EVER more humble. The number of international gigs I have turned down would just floor most of you. I not interested in being a rock star and feeding my ego. I interested in people understanding some truths and finding the creative fire within themselves. All I've wanted to serve as is a little spark of inspiration that *anyone* can do this with the right mindset and perseverance. I'm just a hack. I don't care what any of you say. I'm just a self-taught, self-inclined HACK.
Unlike Ott and Simon, etc, I don't have BIG studio experience and rubbed shoulders with notable professionals to gain evermore knowledge. I've just been a lonely guy in a studio hacking his way along. It used to be fun until people started having expectations. I'm tired of peoples expectations.

Yes, I've actually got some new tasty DS music crafted but will be highly selective who I'm sharing with. I remember when you and some others were popping off so I doubt you'll be one of the chosen unless you want to pay quadruple or something.
Plus, I never feel anything is good enough so I keep working it over and over and over and over...... even though perfection is impossible or any many cases right in front of our eyes. Yes, I just watched the new Tron last night.

It's obvious I don't care about making an total ass of myself. Let us all just wait and watch to see if Shahar is going to continue to use this to his benefit. Don't think those flashy ads at the top of each page are there out of charity. People PAY to have those in place.
