1st option. you people insist that all music is to be bought.
Well... WORNG!
look at it like that- only a small precent of the music is being published by labels. therefore, most of the people who put their lives for music sees squat. for me anyway, i've put large sums of my money for it and even if (Amen amen amen), my stuff gets published, i'd put most of my tracks on a web page. It's the best advertisment one can ask for. and most of all - it's about reaching for pepole, the money can be only a bonus.

all these people saying "i download then if i like i buy"... surely going to psyhop/saiko sounds and listening to music on real player is enough to know if you like it or not. I know it is for me... |

I think you people got it all wrong.
I'm not a guy who doesn't buy music because i think is money badly spent.
If i could i would buy every cd which goes out, good or bad...
The fact is: i don't have a "brother's store", i don't have any connections you people from labels, etc have and i'm not rich. Infact, i have very little money and are almost completely supported by my parents (i'm a student w/ a part time job).
But it was my mistake, the original question should be preceded by "as i don't have the money to buy,...".
I agree with Plan B, the internet is a very good medium to make yourself known, and agree partly with Yotopia, maybe this is killing the scene, money makes the world go round. But i'm sure if i was an artist i would have no problem in receiving little or no money, because i would have another job. But that's just me and i respect that many or most people may have a different opinion.
About the "download and try" thing, why the hell do you think it is killing the scene?!??! It's not logical. If people are not going to buy the music anyway, downloading it will not cause any harm, because the money wouldn't be spent anyway.
Or maybe someone who had a wrong idea about your music, after downloading and listening to some mp3, may order the cd.
Face it, some people may not like your music, and they want to know beforehand if they do. I don't want to spend €15 on a cd or a party ticket where you are playing, only to discover i really don't like your music.
At last, if you're NOT an artist, please do not reply, i couldn't care less for your opinion.

some artists are also nice enough to have web sites with cut out samples of mp3, here are a few examples:

...another thing is that some labels are not willing to release "unreleased" traks that are available on the net, and on top10s, also djs should at least consider the quality of the mp3 they play at parties, nevertheless, a little promo is not necessarily a bad thing 3:-0

As an artist, i say:
The promotion is super, and i dont mind peoble getting my music as long as i have my own "Chumps" of gold,,,,
But i dont like that peoble download my music in shitty quality, and then go 2 a party and play it,,..."peoble are known to do so, i heard my own track in the worst quality,. and it really pisses me of,,,
but if its good quality,,,be my guest,,,i dont care....
im just saying....Respect the artists dont piss on them..

Chi, very respected artist, that is in this scene from it's beginning ( Christian Elisyum), said very clearly, that if you want to make quality art you have to do it and only it... And once again you go back to this overchewn formula of 'If I was an artist I would get a day job'... What is wrong with you ppl to understand that making music is a FULL TIME JOB if you ought to make it right???
Ppl, those that don't invest all yer life in music, including all your time and money would never understand what is it, and what it takes.. So please - download as much as u can but don't say what you would do in our position since you have no idea about it

Ok, i was wrong about that. Thanks for explaining it clearly!
And i also understand that as an artist, you deserve to be payed for your creations.
But i think the artists could loosen up a little... Unlike you think, it may be good for you. I would bet on that.
About mp3 djing, yes i think it's shit. I am a "learning" dj, and i've bought for my home system some good monitors. I had many mp3 cd's and i immediatly noticed the difference against factory cd's and the pair of speakers i was used to.

In my opinion the most part of the ppl here if they dont have illegal music on the computer probably they have illegal programs or movies or other things including artists and djs so dont try to be some kind of angels guys.
If you have that illegal stuff but dont make show off or propaganda ok its the life its this new world nothing can stop that but if you have illegal stuff and show that or make any kind of propaganda thats bad for me.
I have illegal stuff on my computer including Mp3 music and unreleased stuff but i dont make show off or post tops 10 or someting like that but i see today many djs that use ILLEGAL stuff on their sets or at least they show that on the net and that is bad but I will NOT CONDEMN them because I DONT MAKE JUDGEMENTS.
Common guys dont try to be ANGELS look to your computer and check if you dont have illegal stuff there like GAMES and other kind of programs now look to the labels of that programs they are losing money to because you guys dont buy their stuff so be a little more compreensive and look to this new world where the NET as changed everthing even presidents or judges probably have at home copied games or programs.

u dont know how much time artist around the globe givin
its not faire to download an artist cd!
i dont talk about comp stuff i think it importent to but artist cd is very hard to produce
so dont ask this questions man!
if u wanna download music so dont share it with us!
if u buy some and then u wanna say some
i will love to listen what u have to say!

selling cd's was major goal for alot of artist that wrote cheap music and sold tons of cds and bring the scene to the stage that it is now
tons of crap released

music would be way better if it was free and all u labels and artists u cant fight the internet and i'm happy about it
and artist....
there will be always 2000-3000 ppl that will buy the cd that was proper desrebuted
and if the album was good u will make same money on gigs and liveacts verry quick
and even way more money than the cd itself
artists asking for 300-500$ for a gig
man no label and no cd will pay u this money for 3 hours job so dont make us cry plz

both shpongle albums sold like 50 000 copies.. I wonder why.. maybe cause it was really extremly high quality!

I am amazed of so much ignorance from people here.... Music should be free !!! What the fuck?..sorry for my faul language. Where do you get your facts from?... You claim that there will always be 2000-3000 people buying the music and that we make our money from live gigs..You do not at all know what you're talking about dude !!!!
This get me pissed off !!!
You also claim that if the music is good then we will get live gigs...we'll sorry to say this but the majority of the bands that play live today are bands that sound similar and don't have any uniques sound of their own !!! I call it factory music! Just take GMS as an example..when did they ever do something new and interesting? Even though they just released GMS version 5.000 they still get the most live gigs..why? Because people and the organisers got no idea what quality is !!!! They just want a kick drum going 150 bpm to support their coke abuse !!!!!
The quality music (I am thinking about unique bands with a unique sound different from those 10.000 bands that sound the same) rarely get a chance to play live because they wont give in to the mainstream idea of making kick ass fast "speed" music or minimalistic "coke" music... Sorry if I offend someone but the crap i see written in this topic is just amazing and surely come from people that never buy any music at all !!!
Oh and by the way none of the shpongle albums sold 50.000 copies - not even together !!!...it's a myth my friend |

GMS is crap that was born for money
they make their music only for it and thats why their music sucks
man if no money would be involved in music gms would never survive till now
but u talking about quality artists...........
all quality artists i know r still underground and will stay there and will share their music for everybody coze they want ppl to hear them
gms and all their clones i dont count as music
but try some Fin stuff and even denemark underground (Gow,Color Drops,Insane Behavior,jaffa,musacaw,syntax error,all Technoms)
those produce quality music for dancefloors and not rush to release it at all
